I could image that is what you could hear in hell.Horrible unhuman like howling, uncontrollable weeping and gnashing of teeth from the pain.According to this article people have heard people screaming during a volcanic eruption, years ago i heard about a team in Russia hearing screams coming from deep beneath the earths crust..
“Caspar Peucer, a famous fourteenth century astronomer and physician, who also researched and documented the volcanoe eruptions at Heklafell wrote some very frightening information in his research findings. Peucer, claims (as others) that “fearful howlings, weeping and gnashing of teeth” could be heard “for many miles. . .” as these volcanoes erupted:
“Out of the bottomless abyss of Hekla fell, or rather out of Hell itself, rise melancholy cries and loud wailings, so that these can be heard for many miles around . . . there may be heard in the mountain fearful howling, weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Someone told me once at a Sunday school that if we as humans should experience what they experience in hell we could not endure even the sight of it.But I don't know how they know that. Its unimaginable terror Kathi.. Jesus came to save us from that place he took upon himself our punishment he took upon himself his Fathers wrath he did the work he drank that cup he did it all.. there is no greater love than the love of God..

I just wanted to clarify for myself how I look at things for the moment. If someone comes along with a better idea, I'm open to modifying my views. The Lord knows how often I've already done that over the years.KevinK clarifying ones views or understanding of some words can be most helpful is discussion forums..
Over the years i have head hell described as everything from separation from God to forever burning..
That is just a lie from Satan.I just wanted to clarify for myself how I look at things for the moment. If someone comes along with a better idea, I'm open to modifying my views. The Lord knows how often I've already done that over the years.
I was taught in parochial school there was no physical hell, that hell only designates a state of separation from God. Well, it certainly is that (and I experienced that separation during my OOB. Bad. It is very bad.) But I now think it is also a place of physical (if that's the right word) torment. The fires are literal fires, etc. One of the greatest deceptions of the New Age is the false teaching that hell doesn't exist as a physical place. It does, I went there.
Probably alot.I often wonder how much of the New Age stuff is satanic fabrication.
I've been in charismatic churches where happy souls seemed to be from an asylum.....Elysium, where happy souls lived after death.
The pain of overwhelming grief and sorrow, not physical suffering, IMO....uncontrollable weeping and gnashing of teeth from the pain.
But a loving God would not lock up and punish criminals, right? The majority of New Agers deny even the existence of Hell...
I can't think of any reason why a state of separation from God can't also be a physical place without physical torture. Why does being in a state of separation from God have to mean that punishment can't be in a literal physical place?I was taught in parochial school there was no physical hell, that hell only designates a state of separation from God.

There seems to be different world views on this. Here's what I currently work off of:
HELL: a convenient general term that can cover several different places in the afterlife, all uncomfortable.
SHEOL/HADES: Sheol is Hebrew, Hades is Greek for the current abode of the damned. It is a place of conscious torment and torture. There are cells, cubicles, torture rooms, and a "small" lake of fire (see Gehenna below). Originally constructed only for Satan and his minions, it has come to be "dual-purposed" for the internment of unsaved human beings.
TARTARUS: the lower "basement" of Sheol, contains torment of such magnitude it is beyond normal human comprehension. Interred are the worse of the demons, and...? (Rumored to be so bad as to cause instant insanity if even revealed to a human being.)
GEHENNA: named after a burning refuge dump near Jerusalem, this is the "big" Lake of Fire into which all of Sheol and its contents will be dumped post Judgment. Not sure if sentient beings will remain sentient, or be consumed beyond consciousness.
I know others have markedly differing ideas on Hell's definitions and architecture. This is a working model for me, and I'm perfectly willing to hear your ideas.

I agree, the word "Hell" is confusing. It translates at least 3 different words in the Bible, and when the word "Hell" is used, it is used inconsistently. Sometimes "Sheol" is translated "Hell" and sometimes it isn't.I agree Reba, that's why I try not to use the word hell. Everyone seems to have their own idea of what the word means. Since the Bible uses three different names for these three different places I use the Bible names for them, it helps eliminate any confusion.
And yet, we swear all the rest of the translated words we hang so much doctrine on are precisely accurate renderings of THOSE words. Remarkable bit of logic we have working there.I agree, the word "Hell" is confusing. It translates at least 3 different words in the Bible, and when the word "Hell" is used, it is used inconsistently. Sometimes "Sheol" is translated "Hell" and sometimes it isn't.
We shouldn't use the word "Hell" anymore, we should say whatever the Bible says. Sheol, Hades, or Gehenna. That would start to reduce the confusion.
