Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. we do rest in the finished works of the cross. the price has been paid. we do this by faith
Therefore,
since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:
“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”
although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”
Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”
For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day.
There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
Hebrews 4:1-9
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. we do rest in the finished works of the cross. the price has been paid. we do this by faith
This is not what verse 3 says but you added your own words to the scripture..
There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.
This will be the 1000 years when we reign with Him after He returns and removes our enemies.
Hebrews 4:6-9
- Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience,
Now there is much work to be done.
Preaching
Teaching
Pastoring
feeding the poor
healing the sick
casting out devils
visiting those in prison
seeing about orphans and widows
supporting local ministries
clothing the naked
counseling those in need
and on and on and on...
Working and providing for our own, those who God has placed in our lives, including our family.
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household,
he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8
There is a rest to come for His people, and the way we enter that rest to come, is by faith in Christ, in which we live in obedience before Him.
