Temporal Salvation?

If it can be argued those that turn from God were never really saved, then those that turn from Satan were never really lost? How/why can it be one way but not the other?

For one to turn from God implies he first must have been of God. One cannot turn from God if he was never of God.
Eze 3:20 "Again, when a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thy hand."
Also Eze 18:26-27.

Ezekiel is talking about apostates, those who have moved away from a previous standing, that is, moved from a previous standing of being righteous to being wicked and lost.

Go back to Ezekiel 3:19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

A righteous man of faith consist of being morally right, justifiable and virtuous. If that person turns from faith, even after someone warns them not to turn away from God then they never really knew what God's grace through faith was. Our faith is in Christ Jesus in whom we believe and trust in.

John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

IMO, it's not turning away from Satan, but turning away from the sin nature of the flesh that Satan uses in order to keep the lost away from the mercy and grace of God. Those who have ears to hear will hear God calling to them as He draws them to Him. Not everyone will heed His calling them.

Go back to Ezekiel 3:19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

Ezekiel is speaking of the saved (righteous) turning to be lost (wicked)..an apostate. Not a lost person turning to being lost. Eze 3:19 is speaking of the lost remaining lost.

Who are the ones the Father gives to Christ? The ones that 'seeth' and 'beleiveth' the Son Jn 6:40. The verbs 'seeth' and 'believeth' being in the present tense. Hence those that conditionally have and maintain a present tense belief will not be lost.

I am not seeing how this explains apostates and falling away from salvation.

In Ezekiel chapter 3 Ezekiel is being instructed about his ministry that he will come before a rebellious house of God that are impudent and hardhearted. He will speak to them the words God gives him to speak as a warning against them for turning away from God as he was set a watchman over the house of Israel, like we are set as a watchman over the body of Christ when we see one turn from God unto wickedness we need to speak the words of God's warning to them to help bring them back to the faith they once had.

Exactly, as those who hear the voice of the Shepard will heed His warning not to stray away, but there are goats among the sheep that walk with the sheep, but do not heed the warnings of turning away from the Shepard as they become imprudent and hardhearted as they are like dogs who return to their own vomit, 2 Peter chapter 2.

I am not seeing how this explains apostates and falling away from salvation.

When you compare Galatians 3:27-29 with Colossians 3:1-4 this is speaking about those who are baptized into Christ as they have died to their wicked ways. Those who do fall away are those who only give lip service to the Lord and never truly knew Him, Isaiah 29:13; Matthew 15:8.

Do you honestly think this about the Apostle Paul?

“ I just honestly think Paul was a human being.....James said that “ we ALL stumble in many ways....” He did not say that everybody but Paul stumbles....
Paul Himself even admitted that he had not “ achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection.” Phil 3:12.......

“ I just honestly think Paul was a human being.....James said that “ we ALL stumble in many ways....” He did not say that everybody but Paul stumbles....
Paul Himself even admitted that he had not “ achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection.” Phil 3:12.......

We agree. Paul was a human being.

Amen.

Paul also said that he had to deal with his flesh, lest he be disqualified.

But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
1 Corinthians 9:27

James says it this way —

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. James 1:12

The clear, easy to understand explanation of these verses is right in the text itself.
You don't need biased commentaries to understand the Bible.
You need them to make the plain words of the Bible not really mean what they say.

Your entire “ take” on Scripture revolves around an erroneous view of Paul warning Hebrews who were sitting on the fence in regard to whether or not to accept the Gospel
They were not sitting on the fence. They had already received and believed the gospel preached to them.
They were being tempted to go back to the old covenant system of worship that they knew so well because of persecution. That is true. (Think '2nd type of soil' Matthew 13:21, Luke 8:13).
But they were most certainly saved.
We know that by these plain words:

"32Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. 33Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. 34You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. 35So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded." - Hebrews 10:32-35

I know your argument depends on the Hebrews being 'not really' saved. But as anyone with eyes can see they were very much saved. The above makes it plain and understood that they were indeed very saved. And if that's not enough proof, here is more:

9...we are convinced of better things in your case—the things that have to do with salvation. 10God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end..." - Hebrews 6:9-11

So we can plainly see they are very much saved. And the warning to them is to not fall away from faith in Christ and go back to the law of worship. (Just as the saved Galatians were warned not to do that.) So, right off the bat, the premise upon which your argument depends is false. The Hebrew church really is a church of genuinely saved people, serving the Lord, and being exhorted to not throw their faith and confidence in Christ away.

This is unmistakable and should be understood by all.

We as a church community should all be in agreement with this basic foundational truth.

Believe (present tense) = Saved

Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. Luke 8:12

  • lest they should believe and be saved.

The very thing that Jesus plainly stated was needed to be saved is to believe. When a person believes the way Jesus means believe, they are saved.

Paul teaches the very same exact thing —

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:1-2

  • by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

If we do not continue to believe, but fall away in unbelief, our initial believing by which we were saved was done in vain.

We all must continue to believe, in order to continue to be saved.

We must continue in the faith.

And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.
Colossians 1:21-23

  • if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard,

The hope of the Gospel is the salvation of our soul.

Post #1031. the following statement was made "Those who turn away from God were never His own to begin with as they only give lip service to the Lord, but truly do not have Him in their heart or else they would not turn away."

Eze 3:20-21 does show a saved person can turn away from God. Logically for one to turn from God implies one must first be of God. One 'always lost' cannot turn from God for he was never of God.

2 Pet 2 speaks of apostates, those who had been believers - redeemed - bought yet turned from God. Peter says they have ".... forsaken the right way, and are gone astray," and "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein". Those "always lost, never saved" have never been in the right way to be able to forsake it, cannot go astray for they were always astray. Cannot become 'again' entangled for they were always entangled. Those 'always lost, never saved" have never escaped the pollutions of the world thru the knowledge of Christ. "and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire." those 'always lost, never saved" have never been washed but have always wallowed in the mire.
"The dog is turned to his own vomit again;" The apostate who was once redeemed now turns to filling himself up with sin again. Those 'always lost, never saved' have always been full of sin. Cannot fill themselves with sin AGAIN for they always were in sin.

You posted "Those who do fall away are those who only give lip service to the Lord and never truly knew Him, Isaiah 29:13; Matthew 15:8."

So there is no such thing as an apostate? You speak of those who "fall away". Fell away from what? If one was 'always lost, never saved' then he has always been fallen. One cannot fall from a a lost state to a lost state. The word fall implies one's position has changed from a saved state to a lost/fallen state.

Exactly

If one is “holding on” to a rope high above a ravine, one must
“hold fast”, continue to hold on, if he expects to continue to avoid destruction.

If he chooses not to “continue to hold fast“, and plummets to his death, his initial “holding on“ was useless.

The Full Assurance of Faith
Heb 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
Heb 10:20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
Heb 10:21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
Heb 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Many do not draw near to God with a true heart as whatever faith they might have had in the beginning became so weak that they just fall away and return back to worldly ways as iniquity is found in them as they become stiff-necked and their hearts have become hardened against truth. They willfully sin and there is no more sacrifice for their willful sin. They become adversaries to God and will face God's judgement of damnation, John 5:28, 29.

They willfully sin and there is no more sacrifice for their willful sin. They become adversaries to God and will face God's judgement of damnation, John 5:28, 29.

This is so true.

However the context of Hebrews 10, is not so much about willful sin, but about willful sin and no longer having a sacrifice for that sin, because they have departed Christ, and returned to Judaism.

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
Hebrews 10:26

there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins

The reason they no longer have a sacrifice for sins is, they have departed from (deserted) Christ.

I want the readers to think about this verse before commenting as this is very important about our salvation and faith in Christ as many teach we are already saved, but according to Matthew 24:13 we are not yet saved until the return of Christ.
Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

I believe this is what we are missing as the end has not come yet as Christ has not yet returned to save His own. Salvation has nothing to do with being saved, but has everything to do in order for us to be saved in the end when Christ returns for His own. Salvation is about building upon our faith in Christ as when we are weak, God's grace is sufficient for us as our strength is made perfect in weakness if we trust in Christ Jesus and learn of Him, 2 Corinthians 2:9; Colossians 2:6-15.

SALVATION – delivered from sin, promise of our welfare brought about by faith in Christ Jesus.

Salvation means to be whole mind, body and soul as we surrender our will to God and allow his will to work in our lives by applying Gods word to every aspect of our lives. This allows us to know the mind of Christ and all the promises of God for our own well being so we can face anything that tries to come against us while here on this earth. We can triumph and be victorious through the grace and mercy of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus as when we are weak in faith we need to be drawing on His strength as God helps us grow our faith in Him.

Sin separates us from God because God is a spirit and can only recognize his own children by what spirit is living in their hearts. We have to renew, rebirth - born again, Gods Spirit within us in order to be called a child of God and see the kingdom of heaven, John 3:5-7. We now put off the old man (flesh) and put on the new man (Spirit), Ephesians 4:17-24. We are renewed by the word of God and through the Holy Spirit teaching us of all things.

Temporary salvation is nothing more than temporary faith, here today and gone tomorrow for faith was never built upon as it lacked understanding, never built upon to allow the grace of God to strengthen it, never built upon for it had no fellowship with the Father and His Son Christ Jesus. Those that walk away from faith, which is Christ Jesus who is our faith, never truly diligently sought after Him in order to know the mind of Christ.

A righteous person is not yet saved and remains in this fleshly body until Christ returns. If a righteous man stands steadfast in his faith as he believes and trust in the Lord no matter the circumstances that comes against him, like that of the thorn in Paul's flesh, they will do well unto the coming of the Lord. Not everyone that starts out being a virtuous person stands steadfast in their faith as they let life circumstances consume them causing them to leave their faith and rejecting Christ as their Lord and Savior as they begin to walk in hatred towards Him. Seen this happen many times as their hearts become hardened against the Lord even though they were warned by others not to turn away, but to trust in the Lord no matter what Satan has set before them, Ezekiel 3:20, 21.

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,
Hebrews 10:26
The implication being that the sacrifice covered the unwillful sin. IE sin done in ignorance Aka not knowing the truth.
this roots back to the garden. Eve was deceived and Adam willfully disobeyed. There were consequences for both, but death came through willful disobedience.
James also picks up on this as some sins lead to death while others don’t. This is not to say sin is without consequence.

The phrase "no longer" tells us that they once had a sacrifice for sin, but now there "no longer" is.

The reason is the person "no longer" believes, because they have departed from Christ. They have gone back to Judaism, and no longer have a sacrifice for sin they once had. They have put Christ to an open shame by deserting Him.

If we no longer have Christ, we no longer have a sacrifice for sin.

Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

You make a very good point that is hard to explain to people.

It‘s not that we aren’t “saved”, but rather we are saved by faith.

If we have faith in Christ for salvation, then by default we have the “substance” of the thing we are hoping for, (salvation) meaning we don’t yet have the tangible reality that we will have when Christ returns, as you have said.

This is why it’s so important to rightly divide what I call “ initial salvation”, which refers to being saved, regenerated, or born again, which all refer to salvation by grace through faith, from receiving the salvation of our souls.

There is receiving the salvation of our souls, at the coming of the Lord when He returns to gather His people at the resurrection and rapture, if we endure to the end.

Peter says it this way —

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:5-9

  • receiving the end of your faiththe salvation of your souls.

Peter calls the trials and persecution of Christians, as being “tested by fire“; our faith is tested by fire.

Thats is the context of enduring to the end, as Jesus is prefacing the great tribulation in Matthew 24:13.

But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:13-14

Jesus also teaches about this in the parable of the sower, when He uses this same term “endure” to describe enduring persecution.

But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Matthew 13:20-21

We must understand that enduring to the end refers to enduring the persecution until the end. Being faithful unto death.

Not departing from Christ to save your life so that you can live a little longer.

Because Of The “ once and for all “ Sacrifice That Jesus performed on the Cross—- The Entire Old Testament Sacrificial System was now a complete waste of time ....there no longer is “ a sacrifice for sin”. Now that the Jews have had the Truth revealed to them that all of their Sacrifices pointed to the Sacrifice Of Jesus on the Cross .....they would be “ willfully sinning” to go back to the Temple and slaughter bulls and goats ......they are not Sinning out Of ignorance anymore—- they are knowingly Sinning now—- treating the Blood Of Jesus as if it were nothing.....they are “ trampling” upon it......
Big, big problem with this popular interpretation.
Verse 18 does in fact say the believer does not need to offer any more sacrifices for sin (the One Sacrifice of Jesus always being present before the Father to intercede on behalf of the believer - Hebrews 7:25).

18And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary." - Hebrews 10:18

Now let's jump down to verse 26.

26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God." - Hebrews 10:26-27

Here's the problem: "No sacrifice for sins is left" in vs. 26 can't mean "sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary" (vs.18) because in vs.26 what's left where there is no more sacrifice is you going to hell. How supposedly learned scholars miss this is amazing.

If you're not following what I'm saying, attach vs.18 to vs. 27 in place of vs.26 (the argument being that vs.18 and 26 are talking about the same thing, but we'll see they are not):

18And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.
26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,
27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God." - Hebrews 10:18,26,27

See it? Vs.18 is talking about not needing to repeatedly offer up sacrifice for sin.
Vs.26 is talking about not having that sacrifice available anymore because of willful sinning and going to hell as a result.
