The 7th-Day Sabbath?

Would you make the same comments about legally compliant concerning the 6th Commandment?

The simplicity of the observations is that none of us enter into those understandings as 'just us.'

When we see these matters as only about us individually it's just poor theology.

What is your belief about the 7th. Day Sabbath? Isaiah 56:1-8.:)

My belief is that according to the old Hebrew texts, the 7th day of the week from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday was to be a holy day if rest and reflection. According to the writings, upon the people of Israel agreeing to go into a covenant relationship with their God at Mt. Sinai, "keeping" the Sabbath became a requirement. The people that were party to the Sinai covenant were to adhere to keeping the Sabbath holy in order to keep a covenant relationship and the benefits that went along with it. When the Sinai covenant was concluded, I see no indication from any scriptural texts that the Sabbath was to be recognized.

Regarding the Old Testament Jews we all know their practices were shadows and types.

Did they know their external showings pertaining to rituals and sacrifices were all shadow showings of Christ to come in the flesh?

No. No more than Christians today see that what Christ showed Himself in the flesh will be a coming spiritual REALITY.

Did Israel see by showing up on Saturday to do their thing?

No. They really had no clue, because God did not give them a heart to understand:

Deuteronomy 29:4
Yet the Lord hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

In Christ these blinders are taken off, theoretically. Or at least off of those HE desires to SEE.

s

Hi, first off God gave MANKIND the 7th Day Sabbath at creation. And it has days marked for time. (+ sun moon & stars) NONE were created as Jewish.
And they were His Everlasting Gospel. Heb. 13:20

They came from the same God that never changes & the Son who always OBEYED HIS FATHER.
SO, just do your thing as you desire? (check out Cain for starters in Gen. 4:7)

But do not claim that it is because of Love for Christ. For He said that 'IF you love Me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.'

--Elijah

Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 ¶ Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Here is the fulfillment of the commandment.

Ro 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
(KJV)

2Co 3:6 ¶ Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
Its seems the "simplicty of Christ" is very hard to accept for many?
2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

2Co 3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12 ¶ Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13 And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament;

What is your belief about the 7th. Day Sabbath? Isaiah 56:1-8.

My upbringing shaped my beliefs, but in order to follow Philippians 2:12, I had to question many things. From "soul sleep" & the rapture, to tithing & the Sabbath.

I sincerely opened my heart & mind to God on these subjects. I believe God's Word is inerrant & when I found no commandment in the NT regarding the keeping of the Sabbath, I began to reflect on how the law was fulfilled in Christ. He kept the Sabbath to fulfill the law & to become our Sabbath. i.e. our rest. He had to keep the Sabbath, lest He be found just as guilty as we are. But now, it is finished. Our eternal rest has been fulfilled in the life, death & resurrection of Jesus Christ.

And that's my belief. :)

This is the biblical answer and when one begins to trust in Christ and His righteousness and stops going about to establish their own, by the law. One understand how this commandment is fulfilled in is.
Ro 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth

Heb 4:3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: (THE LAW IS NOT OF FAITH)
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Hey Gal, this is ANOTHER that teaches that Abe tried to [earn] salvation! After he died, Isaac was told of God why He called Abe in the first place.
[5] Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

It seems that these 2 Cor. 4:2 ones are crafty, huh? But lets see how Abe reacted in Gen. 12 long, long before with the Lords direction! [by his Voice!]
Gen. 12
[1] Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
[2] And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
[3] And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
[4] So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
[5] And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and [[the souls that they had gotten in Haran;]] and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

I don't know about these souls, but they ALL were Obeying God no doubt!

Romans 4:3-5 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that works is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Abraham believed God & that also included the fact that his seed would bring forth the Messiah. :) Amen?

Yes the only obedience for man is not through the law but through the gospel.

26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

Again, this is the fulfillment of the commandment;
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Yes, it's 'by grace through faith', 'not of works'.

It might be a good idea to believe the prophets! 1 Cor. 14:32
[32] And the spirits of the [ALL] prophets are subject to the prophets. (meaning that none disagree!)

SO! Isa. 66:22-23 is Truth...

[17] For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
[18] But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.
[19] And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
[20] There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.
[21] And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.
[22] They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
[23] They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.
[24] And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

And

Isa. 66:22
[22] For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
[23] And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

From the Prophet Isaiah!! Surely he would know that God does change huh??

Read it again! Then check out this stuff from 'an/others' pen!

--Elijah

PS: From one New Moon to another, tells all that the weekly cycle will be re/established!

I just wanted to let the OP know my belief. We can throw verses at each other all night & you will see them as your eyes will see them & I will do the same. It is the Spirit of God that opens & directs our eyes as we work out our own salvation. I have questioned many things since coming to faith in Christ, including the Sabbath. Best we can do at this point is pray for each other. :amen

I don't know that the context of Isaiah 56:1-8 makes the passage applicable to us
after the cross. What burnt offerings and sacrifices might I give that would be
acceptable upon God's altar?

What about Isaiah 66:23 - what do you make of that?

It's not to do with the church, is it.

You won't find the church anywhere in the Old Testament.

We need to look at the New Testament in terms of practices specifically for the church.

Mt 28:1 ¶ In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Mr 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
Mr 16:9 ¶ Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Lu 24:1 ¶ Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Joh 20:1 ¶ The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Joh 20:19 ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Ac 20:7 ¶ And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
1Co 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

You know, I dont mind that some want to worship on saturday, but its when they try to deceive others into thinking that the Chruch is in error, that I must defend the truth. These scriptures are a clear as they can be, they cannot be challenged.

Hello, George. Can you elaborate a little more about how the verses you quoted here support the changing the "day of rest" from Saturday to Sunday?
When I read those verses I'm not picking that up. Instead I am just reading about how Mary and Mary went to see the sepulchre on the first day rather than on the sabbath. This would seem to make sense since I understand their purpose was to perform traditional treatment upon his body and had to wait until after the sabbath to do so in accordance with tradition and rule. How Christ rose on the first day of the week, which also happened to be the third day since his crucifixion as promised. How his disciples were gathered together on the first day. I suspect they probably spent time together on other days as well.

Thanks.

Well I think my point in those scriptures are made in context of the law being fulfilled in Christ, the gospel. Also I would say that as one who has discussed this issue with the sabbath folks, these scriptures become of great importance as one understands their accusations against those who worship on Sunday. I believe it is clear that the early Church first meetings where on the "first day of the week" no where is it recording that the "Chruch" would meet on the sabbath.
So just from this simple observation and to consider just a few scriptures that show the law and its requirements are fulfilled in the death of the Lord, defeats any attempt to bring a charge against those of us who worship on Sunday, which is my point. This debate has been going on for years, and it always comes down to this issue that I have shown in these scriptures? The Lord was raised on the first day of the week, the Chruch met on the first day of the week in that He was raised on that day. - I hope this answers your question, be glad to explore it further with you if you like?

Acts 7:38
This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

If you read Steven's diatribe against the hard heart Jews he makes numerous interesting statements of 'fact' which includes the fact that it was Jesus in the Tabernacle who brought them into the promised land.

44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.
45 Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;

The Old Testament Jews carried Jesus in the external sense, in the Tabernacle, and on occasion when the Prophets spoke saying 'thus saith the Lord,' it was by the Spirit of Christ Himself in them, speaking.

Jesus, God in flesh, took two paths of arrival in His Own Flesh. The 'flesh path' was the people of Israel, the called out ones of the nations from which His Own Flesh Body was eventually originated, but it was an origination from Eve, to whom God stated her seed would crush the serpents head.

The other, His Spirit, was also spoken in those people and these two, Body and Spirit culminated in His Arrival. Died, Rose and the Spirit of Truth, His Spirit, therein distributed to those whom He calls.

It's exceptionally fascinating. Quite entirely Beautiful.
