The Charismatic Church movement

Personal story about tongues...
Dad a Pentecostal pastor... I have heard tongues all my life grew up thinking everyone did it.. :) I hold my dad in very high esteem a good and honest man of God... he has been home with Jesus for about 20 years now... Holding a small church, Dad needed a paying job also .. his time was really divided... Time went by us kids married and left home... ..Dad had enough SS to not have to have a job so hours and hours were spent studying... The more dad studied the less visible the " tongues and other outward signs' were seen... the more into his 'prayer closet' he went...the more the light of Christ shinned through... Tongues does not mean to me or i dont see them they i once did... IMO if tongues is the highlight of your walk with Jesus ya best go back and read some more...

Your walk with the Lord is your walk... as you sorta said all our walks are not exactly alike... as long as you are walking with the Master you are on the right path...
Bravo!

Why is there no one who has answered my question about spiritual gifts?

Is it true no all will receive all the gifts?

Will all receive some gifts?

Is it not the Body and we all receive different gifts?

No one ever answers this question.

Yes.....but then Paul says desire all over the gift of tongues....
Careful on that one. I think you will be searching for a long time to find a scripture where Paul says that. That misconception simply comes from tongues being the last thing he mentions in a list. And you know that I can show you a lot of lists Paul makes where the last thing mentioned is not the least, simply because of its place in a list.

Yes Jesse, do you know your gifts?
Do you want more?
Paul said eagerly seek the greater gifts.
Do you do that?

A good thing is a home group where at points in time, people go around the room and share what they see as gifts in others in the group.
It is very uplifting, and sometimes we realize people see gifts in us that we didn't see ourselves.

This scripture shows gifts are given, but not all will get every gift........

"But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:" 1 Cor. 12: 7-10

Of course, God gives me gifts and then I go and edify the Church with that which He has given me.

The gifts are given FOR the Church, not just individuals.

Yet again, some will receive some gifts, others will receive others.

All of Corinthians is about the gifts and how we are one Body and all will have different gifts. Here is scripture again:
"But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:" 1 Cor. 12: 7-10

You sound like you are stuck in neutral.
Put yourself in gear and step on the gas!

I have no idea how you got this from my post.

Maybe all should go back and read how the Body is made up, not all have the same gifts. Can an eye hear? NO

The Body would be lopsided if all had the same gifts.

The sad thing about the charismatic movement is that the most fervent believers, people who have had genuine and real encounters with God in Christ, and who naturally can't stand dead mainstream religion are gathered into these kinds of groups and it's usually under the worst possible teachings and examples available. It was a good thing for me to be exposed to so much bad quackery theology in the charismatic realm but sadly most get pooled into all kinds of lunacy.

You are talking about people categorizing others and placing labels on them. For instance, if one told me they were a Christian, I have already categorized them and a certain expectation of behavior and words should be forthcoming and if these are not in tune with my vision for what a Christian is - then I would question their Christianity because the fruit I think they should have is not up to par?

Is that what you're saying?
Yes, it can be that way. That someone has an idea about what they think a Christian should look like or determined that they should have progressed more in their faith.
But I am also saying that someone people pass judgements on others when they should be cleaning up their own act first. log/sliver.
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call

Peter was talking to his Jewish audience.

The Jews had the promise that God would put His Spirit IN them. Ezekiel 36:27. They knew that His Spirit came upon certain Jews at times, but they were never indwelt with the Spirit until Christ was glorified. Peter was telling them that the time is now that they would be indwelt with the Spirit if they changed their mind about Christ and believed on Him.

The Gift is the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:20, Acts 10:45 Acts 11:17, Heb 6:4

The gift of the indwelling of the Spirit came to the gentiles also but it was The Jews promise, and Peters focus here was his Jewish audience that had the Promise of the Holy Spirit. Their Promise was the Spirits indwelling, not supernatural powers of tongues and healings. In fact, scripture tells the Jews that they will not believe even if they see signs and wonders from the Gentiles.

Isaiah 28:11 (NASB95)
11 Indeed, He will speak to this people .....[the Jews.]

Through stammering lips and a foreign tongue,

1 Corinthians 14:21 (NASB95)
21 In the Law it is written, “By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, and even so they will not listen to Me,” says the Lord.

Tongues was a sign to the Jew that their Promise of the Gift of the Holy Spirit indwelling them was at hand. And tongues ceased when God went to the Gentiles after the fall of Jerusalem in 70 ad. "This people" rejected the Christ. When the time of the Gentiles is complete,God deals with "This/His people" again.

I said that ALL people receive the gift of the Holy Spirit when they believe.
Did you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit when you believed?

What do you think the "perfect" is in this verse?
1Co 13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

From searching around and finding the real me and what I believe. It is called cessationism.
That is people who do not believe there are any gifts today.

Do you believe in healing?
Gift of wisdom?
Gift of knowledge?

Then you are not cessationism.

I guess not because according to all of you - those who do not speak int tongues:
1). Have never had an encounter with God - how can we when the Holy Spirit is not with us
2). Somehow we have no idea what it means to even be a follower of Christ, How can we when the Holy Spirit is not with us
3). We are missing out on all that is of God, because how can we have any holy or experiences from God because we do not have the Holy Spirit with us?
