The Derailing Thread

Oh, I was seeing an eye doctor and/or eye specialist yearly as a kid/teen...usually got a new pair of glasses every year and had two corrective surgeries. No insurance now, so haven't been seeing the doctor the last few years.
I still have a weaker eye that my brain ignores and a dominant eye, but apparently if left untreated this can lead to vision problems including legal blindness in one or both eyes, so...probably going to the eye doctor as a kid prevented that.

You should be able to get insurance through the ACA, unless your state has refused to expand Medicaid and your income is sub 100% of the FPL.

Not sure your diagnosis, but I've had a weak eye like that. I'm 55. Never had it 'treated' at all. The weak eye is pretty useless, but it does perceive light and movement. My other eye is fine.

Just my tu scents.

Okay, Georgia has not expanded Medicaid, so you can't get insurance through the ACA unless your income is over 100% of the FPL ($11,770 for individuals). If your AGI is more than that, you can get health insurance via www.HealthCare.gov

They pay part of the premiums for singles who make between $11,770 and about $47,079, so insurance would be affordable. There is guaranteed acceptance during the open enrollment period. Unfortunately, the ACA does not cover anyone below $11,770 income (AGI) in states that have not expanded Medicaid.

Well I'm guessing that since I'm an adult now treatment won't change the fact that I have a weaker eye since from what I understand it's when you're a young kid that these things are mainly still developing. And I always thought they made a bigger deal out of it than it was since "I can see just fine", but if the concern was to keep it from getting worse while it was still developing I guess that's good. (Augh, those eye patches I had to wear as a kid, though. I hated those. Because I couldn't read out of my weak eye and it affected my schoolwork.)
My weak eye isn't even useless, I can sense movement with it and all, it's just really difficult to read with it and it's much easier to just rely on my good eye, which has nearly prefect vision.
I think when I was older the focus was more on trying to get my eyes to work together, since that effects depth vision...so my glasses are supposed to help my weak eye and encourage my brain to pay more attention to it, I guess? I actually almost never use them...<_< I can still function pretty much normally, I'm guessing, since it doesn't seem to affect my ability to do everyday life.

I had to wear those patches - but I either didn't wear them enough, or I needed surgery to correct the situation. Not sure.
Never wore it at school anyway.

I have often thought my eye problem was connected to (or caused by) my mom's smoking and light alcohol use during pregnancy.

More likely, its the out of control welfare here. My GOODNESS, we have LIFETIME recipients on the rolls...
There is only so much taxpayer money to go around.

It seems like they want to punish the unemployed drug addict, and the leftist ideology in general, at the expense of those who truly could use the Medicaid aspect of ObamaShare.

I think my weak eye is like...20/40? Last time I went to the doctors, anyway. My vision in that eye isn't really blurry, I just...can't see details very well? Like, if I lean back and try to read this page from the laptop screen with my weak eye, I can only distinguish the letters and words with great difficulty. And trying to read a sentence? Forget that!
Piece of cake with my good eye.

Yes, this is important. If your eyes don't work together, your brain will get confused trying to process 2 separate images instead of 1. This can potentially cause headaches and eyestrain. Sometimes corrective lenses, or tinted lenses can help.

Many medical providers offer discounts, and even free services, if you fill out their financial forms. If you sojourned in my area, I would give you a list of them, but I am not familiar with Georgia. Maybe someone from your area can help you figure out how to get medical care. It might be worth checking into. Also:

Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. James 5:14-15 NIV

Yes, the people who wrote the ACA planned for all low income to be covered by Medicaid, which is why they didn't offer anything through the exchange for them. Medicaid managed care organizations offer extras like free rides to doctor appointments, which is helpful to low income without cars.

When half the states refused to expand Medicaid, this left many of the most vulnerable in those states without coverage.

Then the bank inflated medical prices to the moon, so how can they pay cash?

I've had a weak eye all my life.
It now only bothers me when I drive long distance.
I have special glasses with a prism in them.
Funny thing , I just took this trip and my eye hasn't bothered me.
First time.
Maybe it's the Chaga I've been drinking.

Ah. It's usually lighting that seems to cause eye or headaches.
I wonder what it's like to perceive the images from both eyes as one image =O As it now, I ignore my weak eye...I can still see out of it and if someone walked up to me from there I'd see it, it'd just be like seeing something out of the corner of my eye.

Anyway, I'm not terribly bothered by it. I've lived with it all my life and hardly pay it a thought most of the time. The head and eye aches have been a lifelong thing, too.
