The Derailing Thread

The French writer Pascal once stated: "Truth on one side of the Pyrenees; error the other side" (Vérité en deçà des Pyrénees; erreur au-delà).

It's not what the Gospel teaches, mind, but it's how a lot of people think and perceive things.

Blessings.

Thats how i look over the border. It helps me understand im normal. Here if there is a fight, people will fight there own battles one on one. Fist on fist. Then its over. They make up, or they respect the loss and the other person and move on.

When i look over the other side. Well, i will say no more.
Well, you guys have a lot of sea around your border.

Borders can get really interesting if there is a land border...

fist on fist? You mean physical fights?Where are you from?

This might sound stupid because of my ignorance of other countries but is Australia and NZ connected or is NZ and Island by itself?

There are 1,111 miles (I think I got the number right, or do I mean kilometres, @kiwidan?) of sea between Australia and NZ...but wait for it: NZ is divided in two: North Island and South Island (plus a number of small islands).

Blessings.

Is your avatar a native from Austrailia? My grandson's father is from one of the Marshall Islands.I believe they are by Australia.

The Marshall Islands are interesting; in the Pacific, the Republic of the Marshall Islands claims the US owned island of Wake Island (where there was heavy fighting in World War Two, and where during the Korean War President Truman met General MacArthur).

Since there is a defense agreement between the US and the Republic of the Marshall Islands, which claims Wake Island, there is quite some ambiguity here...

Blessings.

My grandson is 14 years old and very smart. He will get a full paid scholarship in college because he is a Marshall Islander.

Sounds good; and I think a lot of Marshall Islands' affairs are in any case handled by the US Department of the Interior (grants, etc.), even thought it's officially an independent country.

Blessings.

I have no idea all the history. A little bit. I should learn some more.

Learning is great. Its only since i cried to the lord that i have acturaly studied history and enjoyed it. I use to be a narrow minded bigot, now im open to learning and study and learning fact from fiction and using credibility to accept what i find.
I hated school.I hated math, history, geography you name it.But I am now an avid reader.I read alot of historical fiction. You know.....it is interesting. As I am reading these novels I sure would like to know about the history.Actually I have picked up some from the novels.

You know what they say:

"Geography is about maps. History is about chaps." :)

I recently have read a novel series from the 1700's and it dealt with King George and I believe the New England States were owned by Britain.I was kind of clueless and sure wish I know more about that era.It was quite interesting.
