The Derailing Thread

My tomodachi ("friend") flew home to Helena yesterday. What a great trip! Lots of good food, last meal together was a great Japanese barbeque in downtown San Mateo (almost $100 for the two of us with no alcohol, but worth it). Watched The Last Samurai and The Yakuza (my all-time favorite movie, with Robert Mitchum), also went to a theater and saw Inferno with Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones (we thought it was a great flick, despite bad reviews). A trip to San Francisco's Nihon-machi ("Japantown"), mainly looking for a Bible written in Japanese (a gift for my friend's Aikido sensei, believe it or not; see how this stuff is interconnected?).

Someone was asking about tattoos and Japanese gangsters. These scenes are from the 1974 movie The Yakuza, directed by Sydney Pollack (who also directed The Way We Were and Tootsie, believe it or not).

I couldn't watch it through cause of the stabbing in the pool

A hot dog made with Wagyu beef and foie gras...I want to buy one and split it with my Dad.

With the Lord the whole time! I always preferred his comedy style...

What was written on the sword given to Tom Cruise's character in the movie The Last Samurai? Different from the line recited in the movie, the actual translation was more like, "Since ancient times to the present, God is with those who serve with dignity and honor".

I'm kinda sad... our Christmas tree broke. Only the top half lights up... Christmas trees are my favorite thing.
