The Ophicial Philadelphia Philles Phanatics Thread

The Phillies and the Yankees won't be playing for another phew hours, but the BIG news in sports is:

The drunken fan who vomited on two children and their father, without realizing that the father is a police officer, pleaded guilty in Family Court today. The Public Defender pointed out that it was a first-time offense, and the 21-year-old was too drunk to realize what he was doing.

He will be sentenced later, and it is expected that he will receive probation.

I have to disagree. The man vomited on three people, punched the father several times, and fought while he was being subdued. I feel that he should be serving jail time.

The Phillies got the daylights beaten out of them yesterday, and the Yankees game was suspended due to rain. Twenty minutes after the game was suspended, the rain stopped.

Scoreless in the fifth inning, the game will continue this afternoon where it left off.

Ouch! The Yankees and the Phillies both lost yesterday, making if phive in a row for the Phillies. Their last three games, all against the Mets, have been shut-outs.

The Yankees and the Phillies both won yesterday. Meanwhile, the fourth-place Mets, who shut out the Phillies three games in a row, were shut out themselves.

But the BIG news in sports is:

The Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks are going for the Stanley Cup championship in hockey, starting tonight. The best-of-seven series will either give the Blackhawks their first hockey championship since 1961, or the Flyers their first championship since 1975.

The Philadelphia Phillies pitched the twentieth perfect game in baseball history, beating the Marlins 1-0. It is the first time in 46 years that the Phillies have had a perfect game, meaning that no opposing runners got on base.

Meanwhile, the Mets, who shut out the Phillies three games in a row, have lost again.

Meanwhile, the Yankees, uhm, er, uh, didn't have a perfect game today.

Hey when you have a guy like Roy Halladay on the mound great things happen. The Phils still only manage to get one run yesterday.

The Yankees won with another late rally. The Amazing Phillies returned to business as usual getting shut out for the 4th time in 6 days. Roy only pitched a perfect game because he knew he might not see any offense from the guys behind him. :)

As a matter of phact, the Phillies' batters had better get their act together. Their phantastic pitching can't carry the load without any help.

The pain continues. The Phillies, who at one point were phive games in phirst place, are now 2.5 games out of phirst, the same as the Yankees.

But the BIG news in sports is:

Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga was about to pitch the 21rst perfect game in baseball history last night. He made it to the ninth inning with two out. The cheering crowd was on its feet. The batter hit, was thrown out at first base, and...

the umpire called "Safe!" The astounded TV announcers couldn't believe it, and they showed the replay that clearly showed that the batter was out. Armando Galarraga showed himself to be a man of class, smiling calmly and accepting the bad call. The umpire has publicly apologized, explaining that it was a close call and he had thought the batter was out, and I believe him.

Today's "Quote of the Day" goes to USA Today, which said:

Tomorrow's going to be a better day for the Philadelphia Phillies. It's an off day.

The woebegone Philadelphia Phillies have lost eight of their last ten games. BUT, the phantastic Philadelphia Phlyers won the third game of the Stanley Cup phinals.

It's a phabulous day for Philadelphia phans. The phloundering Phillies managed to win, and the Yankees lost, leaving both teams 2 games out of phirst place. But the BIG news is:

The Philadelphia Phlyers have won game phour of the Stanley Cup phinals. They are tied with the Chicago Black Hawks in the best-of-seven series.

Once again, the Phillies win and the Yankees lose. But the first place Tampa Bay Rays have lost two in a row. Are they about to enter a slump?
