The Ophicial Philadelphia Philles Phanatics Thread

Elijah, I knew that a man of your discernment and intelligence would eventually see the light.

But the BIG news in sports is:

For the first time since 1996, the National League has won the All-Star game.

After beating the phirst-place Reds phour games in a row, the phlat-phooted Phillies have lost their last two games.

You need to pitch that phorty-seven year-old more often.

Have the Phillies phinally phound out how to get their act together? They've won three in a row, including a 10-2 victory yesterday.

But they're a whopping six games out of phirst place!

Quick! What team has the biggest curent winning streak in baseball RIGHT NOW?

You're right! With five wins in a row, the Philadelphia Phillies are climbing their way back into phirst place.

Watch it, you people are talking about my hometown Phillies. And now we are on a roll. :salute :wave :yes :lol :P :) :D :) ;) :nag

That is a nice streak, but they don't share that streak alone. The Milwakee Brewers also have a five game winning streak. However, streaks alone don't win pennants. With just two months left in the season, we'll see how many big streaks they can put together.

Lewis, you're from Philadelphia? I'm from Levittown, the nearby apex of civilization.
Hey you are one of us. :salute :yes

They annexed Levittown? Forget it, Man. Philadelphia has been trying to annex Levittown since the 1960's, and it isn't going to work.

Okay, Now due to a Milwakee lose, the Phils have the longest winning streak in baseball.

Uh, no. It is due to a Phillies win. The Phillies have now won six in a row and have the longest current winning streak in baseball. Despite their previous five game lead, this is the phirst time this year that the Phils have won six straight games. With the first place Braves having lost two in a row, the Phillies are now 3 1/2 games out of phirst place.

The Phillies just beat Arizona 7-1, but the BIG news in sports is:

HOW DID THE KANSAS CITY ROYALS MANAGE TO LOSE 19-1 TO THE MINNESOTA TWINS?

It took them eleven innings to do it, but the phabulous Phillies have won EIGHT games in a row! With a loss by the Braves, the Phillies are now 2 1/2 games out of phirst.

You might remember some months ago that a spectator at a Phillies game had deliberately vomited on another spectator and his daughter. Today he was sentenced to one to three months, two years probation, and fifty hours of community service. He was also ordered to reimburse the spectator $350 for the five tickets he had bought for his family.

The judge explained that he did not believe that the vomiter's apology was genuine. Witnesses said that the man and his friends had been cursing the family since the game began, had been publicly drunk, and had violently resisted arrest by police and security guards.

Having won phive in a row, the Phillies are only one game out of their rightful position in phirst place. But the BIG news in baseball is:

Two days ago, the Phillies beat the Marlins on a controversial call that will go down in baseball history. The Marlins batter hit the winning run: a bizarre hit that slammed into the ground, rose into the air in a curve, traveled around third base, landed in fair territory, and then curved into foul territory. To the astonishment of everyone, the umpire declared it "foul," and the Phillies won in the next inning.

After hours of ripping into the umpire, calmer minds began defending him. The ball really was traveling in a curved line. The rulebook clearly states that if the ball hits the ground before reaching third base, and then passes third base in foul territory, the ball is foul, regardless of where it goes after that. TV cameras were not able to prove the call either way, but the umpire had a clear view. He insists that after the ball had landed in fair territory, it had curved into foul territory at third base, and had then curved back into fair territory. Yes, it is physically possible, and the videos show that it might have happened that way.
