The Passover of God

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
1. Repentance (John's baptism) confession of sins prepares the way of The Lord. The stony heart has to be broken down into soil, so the seed of the Word will flourish.
2. Baptized into all that Jesus suffered and overcame that we might have eternal salvation.
3. The Holy Spirit gives power to witness.

A. The law defines sin. We have sinned against the father. The law does not give righteousness. Lost folks learn the need for repentance.
B. The kingdom is preached by John (believe in the one who comes after me).
C. The Holy Spirit helps us pray /. Gives spiritual gifts.

Before salvation you need to confess sins. This is an ongoing step.

Colossians 2:16
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Passover is a shadow of the sacrifice Jesus made (a one time sacrifice)

Jesus is first fruit, Passover, eternal Sabbath, etc..

Christ is the solid reality that casts shadows

The new covenant is the expansion of the old. The ox becomes the bishop.

Why would Grace require going back to a sacrifice. For those whom hold a certain fearful expectation of judgement and fiery indignation, I can promise you one thing: they have never known the Grace of God. Many people live in doubt and fear that the blood of Christ no longer covers their sin, and they doubt their salvation. The knowledge of sin will always cause me to doubt my salvation. The knowledge of God's Grace within me will never leave doubt.

Is God going to simply look the other way when it comes to your sins?

.

Why would Grace require going back to a sacrifice.
As has been said, you can't separate the grace of God from the sacrifice. The sacrifice IS the grace God has provided for the atonement of the sinner. And we don't go back to the sacrifice of Jesus--the grace of God he has given--in the sense that we offer him back up again anew. That is not allowed (don't strike the rock twice, speak to it). It is not necessary to crucify Christ again (strike the rock twice) because the ministry of Jesus and his sacrifice is always there before the Father for us to make our appeal to for recurring sin (speak to the rock).

In the old covenant the ministry of the High Priest could not continue on behalf of the sinner because Priests died and could not continue their ministries. That is one reason why sacrifices had to be made over and over for new sin. Not so in this New Covenant. Jesus' ministry continues on our behalf because he lives forever. His ministry and his sacrifice is always before the Father to make atonement for us when we sin.

"Now there were many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them." (Hebrews 7:23-25 NIV italics mine)

That is what it means for the sacrifice of Jesus to be a 'one time for all' sacrifice. He's always there as Priest and sacrifice. There's no need to re-sacrifice that which is already there, and still there before the Father continually ministering on our behalf making atonement for us. Through confession of recurring sin we make our appeal to the same ministry and sacrifice always before the Father in heaven.

For those whom hold a certain fearful expectation of judgement and fiery indignation, I can promise you one thing: they have never known the Grace of God.
Either that, or they have walked away from, and trampled on, the grace of God they had received. The latter being what Hebrews 10:26-31 is about. But the point is judgment and fiery indignation is reserved for those who don't have faith in Christ, or stopped having faith in Christ, not for those who have and continue in their faith in Christ. When a believer realizes this that is when they can resist any suggestion that the grace of God is no longer covering them.

Many people live in doubt and fear that the blood of Christ no longer covers their sin, and they doubt their salvation.
The question is not whether or not they should do that (question their salvation). The question is when they should do that. Dry, fruitless branches should wonder if they have the grace of God, or still have the grace of God (if they had received it before). Why? Because grace was given to set us free from sin, not make it so we can sin freely with impunity. The mark of God's grace is a lessening of sin, not a continuing in sin. Willfully sinning with impunity is a license to sin. The Bible tells us to NOT make grace a license to sin. But that is exactly what you are saying grace is for.

The person who is not being taught to say "'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright lives in this present age" (Titus 2:12 NASB) is the person who does not know the grace of God--the grace of God given to deliver us from sin, not given so we can continue to live in it.

The knowledge of sin will always cause me to doubt my salvation. The knowledge of God's Grace within me will never leave doubt.
"Let us do evil that good may result (that is, God's glory and grace is increased)? Their condemnation is deserved." (Romans 3:8 NIV)

If grace operates apart from the sacrifice of Jesus then he did indeed die for nothing.

Why would you make such a statement as that? Do you not understand what actually transpired at the cross? The Blood of Christ served two purposes that day, for His Sacrifice was made before the two mountains of God. His Blood stands before Mt Horeb as well as Mt Zion.
The Blood that was spilled before Mt Horeb was an sacrifice and an atonement for Sin and Death according to the Old Covenant Law. But the Blood that was spilled before Mt Zion was not for atonement, but was a sacrifice to seal the promises of the New Covenant, confirming the covenant promised to Abraham, establishing His covenant of Grace and Peace.

I am not under the Old Covenant that I should require an atonement for Sin. I have repented of my Sin according to the transgression of Adam, and I live according to the New Covenant of peace by Faith.

Was it the Blood of Christ that spared Isaac from the sacrificial knife in the hands of his father Abraham? Or was it the Grace of God that said He would provide Himself a sacrifice?

I do not stand in the shadow of Mt Sinai where the Blood of His sacrifice is needed to cover my sins, I stand before the light that comes from Mt Zion. I do not require a covering for my sins when I stand in the light before Mt Zion. When you stand before Mt Zion, if you continue to hold up the atoning blood of Christ as a covering for your sins, then that covering hides you from the light that comes forth from Zion. I stand before Zion that I might Glory in the Lord, for which I need no covering. And should perhaps on my journeys I pass beneath the shadow of Mt Sinai, then the Lord has promised me and as He has assured to me, that His Grace is sufficient for me.

Zech 14:4
And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives,
which is before Jerusalem on the east,
and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west,
and there shall be a very great valley;
and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north,
and half of it toward the south.

The Lord has stood upon the mount of Olives, His word came forth from Zion. Through his death and resurrection the mountain has cleaved beneath his feet, half the mountain to the north, and half the mountain to the south. The same as when the Kingdom was divide after the death of King Solomon. The Mountains have been moved beneath His feet: to the North is Mt Zion, and to the South is Mt Horeb.

Which mountain do you stand before?

The Blood that was spilled before Mt Horeb was an sacrifice and an atonement for Sin and Death according to the Old Covenant Law. But the Blood that was spilled before Mt Zion was not for atonement...

I am not under the Old Covenant that I should require an atonement for Sin. I have repented of my Sin according to the transgression of Adam, and I live according to the New Covenant of peace by Faith.
1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins...
(1 John 2:1-2 NASB)

You and I as believers need propitiation for our sins when we sin. Why are you afraid to admit you need an Advocate in this New Covenant for the sins you commit?

Cut to the chase. What is it you are trying to accomplish through this doctrine of yours?

I do not require a covering for my sins when I stand in the light before Mt Zion. When you stand before Mt Zion, if you continue to hold up the atoning blood of Christ as a covering for your sins, then that covering hides you from the light that comes forth from Zion.

Hebrews 10
28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

1 John 1
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 3
5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.

Meditate on these things.

You and I as believers need propitiation for our sins when we sin. Why are you afraid to admit you need an Advocate in this New Covenant for the sins you commit?

If by the law I am dead in sin, and by His resurrection I am dead to sin, then why do I need a propitiation for that which is already dead? If my relationship to the Lord is bound under the New Covenant, then I am not under the covenant of Law. And sin is not imputed where there is no law. So if my sin is not imputed to me, why should I require a propitiation for that sin?

Because you do not understand what I have said, you have made an assumption in asking me why I am afraid to admit I need an advocate. You assume I am afraid of something, but I can tell you without reservation, that what I said comes not with fear, but with confidence.

2 Cor 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness

John 3:16-21
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Only those who go on perishing seek a propitiation for their sins. With all Faith and confidence in the work of Christ, I come before the light without a covering to shield me.

So if my sin is not imputed to me, why should I require a propitiation for that sin?

The reason that sin is not imputed to you is because of that propitiation...Christ.

1 John 2
2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

Take away that propitiation and your sins are exposed.

.

If by the law I am dead in sin, and by His resurrection I am dead to sin, then why do I need a propitiation for that which is already dead?
Because you (and I) still sin. :lol

The power of sin is what died with Christ on the cross, not the reality of it still deceiving us in this life. And as long as you and I continue to be deceived by sin, that in actuality has no more authority over us to make us obey it, we will need Christ's continuing and unending ministry in heaven operating on our behalf to remove the guilt of that sin. He doesn't need to be re-offered to do that.....he's already there doing that.

If my relationship to the Lord is bound under the New Covenant, then I am not under the covenant of Law.
We all know this, but that hardly means there is no sacrifice for sin in this New Covenant. Paul even calls Jesus--the sacrifice of this New Covenant--our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7 NASB). But you have this irrational insistence on rejecting the slightest hint of anything 'old covenant'.

And sin is not imputed where there is no law. So if my sin is not imputed to me, why should I require a propitiation for that sin?
It's not imputed to you legally, in regard to your standing with God as far as the promises go. That is because the promises are conditioned on faith, not your works. But what people don't understand is that when sin is the result of a loss of faith, that sin most certainly is now able to condemn you.

The only sin that can't condemn you is the sin that is made powerless to condemn by your faith in the forgiveness of God. Stop having faith that God forgives your sin through the ongoing ministry of a never dying Christ in the true tabernacle in heaven and that sin is now able to condemn you.....because Christ isn't there by faith for you anymore to forgive that sin.

Because you do not understand what I have said, you have made an assumption in asking me why I am afraid to admit I need an advocate. You assume I am afraid of something, but I can tell you without reservation, that what I said comes not with fear, but with confidence.
Confidence in what? That grace is a license to sin?

Come on, tell us what the implications are for you that you resist if we say that we do need a continuing sacrifice in heaven for us after we are saved. Where the rubber meets the road, what does that mean for the Christian if, for argument's sake, what we say is true?

Only those who go on perishing seek a propitiation for their sins. With all Faith and confidence in the work of Christ, I come before the light without a covering to shield me.
Does John really think his 'little children' he is speaking to here are perishing (in unbelief) that they need a propitiation for their sins when they sin?

1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins... (1 John 2:1-2 NASB)

Shouldn't he rather be telling him what you insist, that they don't need a propitiation for their sins, that matter having been taken care of once and for all when they first believed? :shrug

With all Faith and confidence in the work of Christ, I come before the light without a covering to shield me.

That covering is the work of Christ. How can one have faith and confidence in something they reject?

Are you of the belief that you can save yourself? (ie. make it into the kingdom under your own power.)

.

How long will you continue to use the sacrifice of Christ as a covering for your sins so that the Angel of Death might pass you, hoping to stay death until your Lord returns for you. But we are not under the old covenant, we are under the new covenant: We are under the covenant of Grace. The covenant of grace requires no covering for your sin, or it would not be Grace.

So as a Christian living under the new covenant, of what benefit is the remembrance of Passover to you?

Christians don't use the sacrifice of Christ as a covering for sin so that the Angel of Death might pass over us. Rather we accept the sacrifice of Christ as a covering for sin so that the Prince of Life won't deny us.

The bold part above illustrates the misunderstanding you have which leads you to reject the blood of Jesus Christ. A covering for sin is of Grace when the covering is a free gift from God.

We remember Passover now because of our adopted Jewish heritage. We celebrate Easter because of Christ's resurrection, and promise to make all things new.

The reason that sin is not imputed to you is because of that propitiation...Christ.

1 John 2
2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

Take away that propitiation and your sins are exposed.

.

Gary, would you care to qualify your statement in light of the scripture from John 3:20-21? How shall you stand in the light so that your deeds are made manifest except you come to the light with your sins exposed? You have accepted His sacrifice for the propitiation of your sins, but how long shall you continue in the transgression of Adam? For in Adam's transgression, he sought a covering that he might hide himself from the presence of the Lord. With the finished work of Christ upon the cross, why are you afraid to stand before the Lord with your sins exposed before the Light of Christ?

We all know this, but that hardly means there is no sacrifice for sin in this New Covenant. Paul even calls Jesus--the sacrifice of this New Covenant--our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7 NASB). But you have this irrational insistence on rejecting the slightest hint of anything 'old covenant'.

His sacrifice for Sin fulfilled the requirement for the propitiation of sin according to the Old Covenant law. His blood is not the propitiation for sin under the New Covenant, His Blood confirmed the covenant.

Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

If you continue to glory in the dead works of the law, then your conscience has not been purged from the dead works of the law, then of what benefit has the blood of Christ been for you?

Hebrews 9:15-20
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament is of force after men are dead:otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.

How long shall you continue to stand beneath the shadow of Mt Sinai and pluck the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and then try and pass it off to me as if it has come from Mt Zion and the Tree of Life?
