Bible Study The Vail of Christ

2 Corinthians 3:14
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

In this study we shall take a closer look at the vail that was done away in Christ, how that vail still remains upon the hearts of many even unto this day when it comes to reading the old testament, and in part the new as well, as well as what the vail keeps them blinded from seeing.

There is no room for pride when it comes to thinking that one has eyes to see what is read in the old testament. A humble man would accept that he is blind and ask the Lord to instruct him. After all, we are to walk in Faith. But what is a man who preaches the word, but has not heard the word given to them, or they would know that their master has called them “Blind Guides?”

So before we go further:

Father, I ask the we each take a moment to come before you with a humble and ready heart that we might receive instruction in righteousness according to your Word and by your Holy Spirit, and may it be received with your blessings for those who always seek after you. In Jesus name. Amen.

2 Corinthians 3:12-16
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

So lets begin with the vail that Moses put over his face.

Exodus 34:29-35
And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses 'hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him. And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them. And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken with him in mount Sinai. And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face. But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

Moses had to wear the vail because his face shone with the Glory of God.

2 Corinthians 3:7-8
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious.

I would also point out that Moses put the vail upon his face when he went before the people, but when He when before the Lord, he did not wear the vail.

The vail then has a twofold function: The first of which is concealment, to keep the glory of God hidden away except when in the presence of the Lord; and the second is to keep the rest blinded to the knowledge of the Glory that shone on his face.

2 Corinthians 3:9-11
For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

Hopefully by now it is becoming readily apparent that the vail is uniquely connected with concealing the Glory of G-d.

2 Corinthians 3:16-18
Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Now I have heard many who would point to the vail of the temple being rent in two after the crucifixion.

Matthew 27:50-51
Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent.

Mark 15:37-38
And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

Now while I am sure there are some who can add more detail to the account on how the physical veil that concealed the Glory of G-d in the Holy of Holies was rent; but that is not the focus of this discussion. As the physical veil of the temple was rent, it’s purpose would have been to signify to all that the Glory of G-d was no longer with them, thus leaving them and their temple desolate.

But that can not be the vail that still remains upon our hearts until this day when it comes to reading Moses and the old testament. That veil is gone along with its temple, so it does not remain. It can not be the vail over our hearts, that keeps us blinded when reading the old testament. So there must be another vail then that rests upon our hearts. Which vail is done away in Christ.

But thew was another temple that was destroyed that day that also wore a vail. Yes. I am talking about the temple of Jesus’ body. The one where he said destroy this temple and in three days he would raise it up again (John 2:19).

So like Moses before him who wore a vail so the children of Israel could not look upon the Glory of God the shone upon Him. Jesus, the Word of God made flesh also wore a vail that did conceal the Glory of God. That vail was the body of his flesh, and it is that vail that still remains upon the hearts of men that keeps them blinded to Glory of Christ that is revealed in the old testament, through Moses and the Prophets.

When your read the account given in the scriptures concerning the mount of transfiguration, you see a picture of the Law and the Prophets, Moses and Elijah witnessing of the Glorified Christ.

Luke 9:28-36
And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here:and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.

Matthew 17:1-8
And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here:if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

2 Corinthians 3:14
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.

Hebrews 10:15-20
Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.

The Vail of Christ was His flesh, and his flesh concealed the Glory of the Father that was with him and in him. Now Moses wore the vail over his face to conceal the Glory of G-d that was shone upon him externally; But the vail of Christ concealed the Glory of G-d that was inside of him. The crucifixion was necessary to put off the vail so that the Holy Spirit could then reveal His Glory within us. So that by FAITH, the Glory of Christ in us should be revealed.

But if the Glory of Christ is not being revealed within your heart: Is it because you are not seeking after him? Is it because the things of this world have you preoccupied? Or is it because you are blind, but in your pride you say that you have eyes to see? Maybe it is because of Idolatry, because you have been led to worship the image of a man as God?

Maybe it is a combination of these, but the vail that keeps you blinded when reading the old testament, even unto this very day, is the vail of His Flesh that was hung upon the cross.

Romans 1:22-23
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Sounds a bit like the first commandment, wouldn’t you say?

Exodus 20:1-5
And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

The book of Deuteronomy is a special book to me. The Bible made me aware of the man named Jesus, the gospels gave me the knowledge of the words that he spoke, and declared to me the works that he performed; and I believed. But it was through the book of Deuteronomy that the Lord revealed to me the man Jesus.

Deuteronomy 4:12 And the Lord spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.

The Lord spoke, they heard the voice of the word, yet they saw no image. Yet the book of Deuteronomy instructed me in whose voice to hear.

Deuteronomy 18:15-19 The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

Jesus was that prophet whom the Lord raised up, and it is the words that the Lord put into his mouth, the voice of the word, that we are commanded to hear. When I read the gospels, I hear the voice of those words speak to my heart, yet I saw no similitude.

Deuteronomy 4:15-19 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air, The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth: And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

Isaiah 53:1-2 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

When I read the gospels, it is apparent to me that Jesus never sought adoration, he even shunned it; he always commanded that they should worship God. When he performed miracles, the people praised God, and gave glory to God. When I read these versus in the book of Deuteronomy, I often wonder if the church has not in fact taken the image of the man Jesus, and have made that image their God. Yet the image of the man Jesus is that of a humble servant, and a brother. When I read the red letters, I hear the voice of those words, and that voice is spirit; I see no similitude, but only the voice of the Word.

John 4:19-24 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Frankly I am glad that God puts people into a deep delusion, otherwise the people of God would have no rest from these devils.

Do you believe Jesus Christ is God?

I am not going to answer that question for you. I have put up 5 posts of scriptures and comments about the vail of Christ, but you didn't bother to make any comments on them.

Instead, you try and make this thread about me, and it is not. I guess maybe I should be rude in way, but really, if you can't comment on the scriptures or the comments that I posted, then there really is no reason to comment at all, is there?

Maybe I should ask you. Do you worship the image of a man for a God?

Jesus shows us the "veil" here, and how it happens:

Mark 4:15
And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

This is "how" people are blinded, and by whom.

This is tricky, cause I agree with you and I don't at the same time.

John says the anti-Christ spirit doesn't acknowledge that Jesus came in the flesh. 1 John 4:2-3

That would mean that Jesus being the Christ coming in the flesh is important! When he died the veil was torn from top to bottom Mark 15:38...... Jesus made it possible for us with flesh to make it into heaven 1 Corinthians 15:49-50 And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, (Jesus), so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven. (Jesus)

I do think in God there is hierarchy. God the Father, Jesus under the Father and believers are under Jesus. Makes us one in God.

John 14:20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. The Holy Spirit makes us one.

John 10:34-36 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, ' I have said you are gods'? If he called them 'gods' to whom the word of God came - and the Scripture cannot be broken - what about the one whom the Father set apart (Christ) as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?

He wasn't causing blasphemy, cause he is God's Son and the Christ.

John says the anti-Christ spirit doesn't acknowledge that Jesus came in the flesh. 1 John 4:2-3

I might add this scripture is not referring to acknowledging that Jesus Christ came in the flesh born of a virgin. No, the spirit of anti-Christ does not acknowledge that the Spirit of Christ has come and dwells within their flesh.

1 John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Your full of deception: This scripture 1 John 4:2-3 has nothing to do with the AntiChrist.

Go clean your mouth out and come back.

This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

Nothing to do with the spirit of the antichrist?

But scripture specially addresses "Jesus" come in the flesh. The person of Jesus. Not "LovethroughDove Jesus" or "ezrider Jesus".

Acts 16:18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her.

The name of Jesus is powerful! Not my name. (my real name) his name.

.

2 Corinthians 5:16
Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

Why is this so? Same chapter:

4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

As the physical veil of the temple was rent, it’s purpose would have been to signify to all that the Glory of G-d was no longer with them, thus leaving them and their temple desolate.

I disagree with you here Brother. I think it's purpose was to signify to all that they did not need an intercessor (Priest) anymore to go before God and ask forgiveness for their sins. Now we all have access to our Lord God individually.

2 Corinthians 5:16
Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

I have NIV. It says, So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ this way, we do so no longer.

It says worldly view. That we just die, and that is it? That is how I saw the world before Christ. Flesh just dies?
