vet, we are only disagreeing here mostly on the issue of who the antichrist is and who the thing is that will cause the falling away of the decieved. i am not disagreeding the satan and angels will literally be cast down. I am saying that satan or any other angel will not posses one man who will be " the antichrist" but that the enemy does nothing except mimic the same pattern God does. There is a spirit from the bottomless pit that will come and inhabit the decieved who fall away. that spirit is apollyon, the little horn. not a singular man who will sit in a physical temple. but an unclean spirit who will exalt himself in people who were part of the body of Christ. the temple of God. then those people will fall away and depart from us which reveals who they were as paul says and john describes it like when those antichrists leave us it will be manifest that they were not of us.
Just because something is spoken of in the singular does not scripturally mean always that it is one singular person. Often it means that it is a corporate body of people that are united in the same purpose or spirit.
We especially see this in end time characters. we see the " woman" is spoken of as one woman but she is not one almost everyone agrees with that. the "manchild" is spoken of in singular but then a couple verses down is shown to be a " they". Those same people in is 66 are shown to be a singular " manchild" and then said to be " her children" showing they are many. We are told in the word that we who are many members make up the body- singular- of Christ and that we will even as a body come into the unity of the faith unto A perfect man singular built up into the measure and stature and fullness of Christ singular. we also see the end time harlot and all agree this is not one woman who is a prostitue or who cheats on her husband, it is a system of many people who are spoken of in the singular.
All these are many membered bodies that are unified in some spirit and purpose who are spoken of throughout scripture in the singular form although they literally contain many individual people.
as far as spiritualizing, just because something is spiritual in meaning does not mean it does not literally happen- it literally happens in the spirit. The problem with not wanting to " spirtualize" things in the word of God is that the understanding of prophecy is spiritually understood and we have to know who and what things are spiritually to be able to see what will literally happen. Do we believe a literal monster beast is gonna come out of the ocean? of course not we are told the seas are peoples and we are told all through the word of God, most clearly in daniel that beasts are kingdoms ( not individual men) ruled over by spirits.
