Bible Study WELCOME TO A DEEP LOOK AT GENESIS

Gen 10:6 And sons of Ham are Cush, and Mitzraim, and Phut, and Canaan.
Gen 10:8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
Gen 10:9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.
Gen 10:10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
Gen 10:11 Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the
Gen 10:16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite,
Gen 10:18 And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.

I had the thought that Esau was also a mighty hunter.

Day 28 5/14/14 Genesis Chapter 10 Noah's Generations.

I'm sorry, I don't have the time to comment very much today, way to busy.

Japheth's descendants settled along the Coastal regions and islands of the Mediterranean Sea.

Ham's descendants ended up being Israel's enemies, such as the Egyptians, Babylonians, Philistines, and various Canaanite groups. Cush, Ham's son, fathered Nimrod. We will see more of him later.

Shem's descendants got along with Israel, and Abraham was descended from Shem. Perhaps someone else could comment further on this Chapter.

It's interesting Chop how individuals back then developed into whole tribes/nations etc and are identified as a group, Does this suggest the "Father" of these groups basically decided the type of people they were ie. his ways became their ways ?

I believe you're right Dave. Things back then were very family oriented. The father was the law in the home, especially if he was a godly man.

it one of the names of the sons of noah. its pronounced as its spelled

Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Gen 11:10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
Gen 11:11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
Gen 11:12 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
Gen 11:13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
Gen 11:14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
Gen 11:15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
Gen 11:16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
Gen 11:17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
Gen 11:18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
Gen 11:19 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
Gen 11:20 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
Gen 11:21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
Gen 11:22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
Gen 11:23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
Gen 11:24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
Gen 11:25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
Gen 11:26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
Gen 11:27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
Gen 11:28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
Gen 11:29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
Gen 11:30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
Gen 11:31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
Gen 11:32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

Day 29 5/15/14 Genesis Chapter 11 Tower Of Babel.

The Chapter opening statements are, the whole earth had one language. Second to that, the people settled in one place "Land of Shinar".

The following events demonstrate a very industrious people, much like what God had intended before the flood, except the pre flood people were wicked and incapable of such accomplishments.

The statement "Let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves. This reveals how quickly the people forgot YHWH, and went on their own, demonstrating self sufficiency apart from God....This is the problem with people today. One of the most important area's of Christianity is believers are totally dependent on our Almighty God for all things that pertain to life and happiness.

I have always been interested in the statement "nothing that they propose to do will be impossible for them." If that was the case then, what about now? The N.T. sure has changed things!

These people were dead set against dispersing into the different parts of the land, which is what God intended for them to do. The name Babel means to confuse, mix, and mingle, and is the name of a city in Babylon.

In V.10 we have the descendents of Shem, the blessed line that would eventually see the Savior of mankind come from. Abram was the son of Tarah, Abram married Sarai, and she was barren. It is very interesting how being barren at this time will play out when Abram and Sarai are to old to have children.

Day 30 5/16/14 Genesis 12:1-9 Blessings Through Abram.

In V.1 we see God instructing Abram to leave his home town, friends, associates, and certainly family members, and to go to a land that God will show him. I understand that Terah, Abram's father had started moving his family from Ur to Haran. They lived in Haran for five years and Terah died there. Now Abram has the lead and now it is time for God to move him out toward Canaan.

I don't see any Scripture that states how Abram knew the voice of the Lord, so when God asks Abram to leave his familiar village of Haran for an unspecified place, we see an unbelievable test of faith and trust in God. Some of us have had to do similar journey's, and trust God as to where He wants us to go.

Next, in the test of faith is the statement of God "I will make you a great nation. The problem is, Abraham is son-less at this time, more trust!

Now we have a great promise of God that applies to any Country that is a blessing to Israel. At Shechem, the Lord appeared to Abram saying that He would give this land to his offspring of which he still did not have, more trust! Abram built another altar to the Lord there. NOTE: There had not been a Tabernacle built yet so the altar was where Abram met God.

Again, east of Bethel, Abram built an altar to call upon the Lord.

Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Gen 12:4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
Gen 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
Gen 12:6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
Gen 12:7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
Gen 12:8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
Gen 12:9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

2Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2Co 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
