what are you listening to right now?

Andrea Bocelli is the blind guy, right?

Yes, Bocelli has been blind most of his life. That's sad, but he has not let his handicap stop him, he is a world class tenor and has the ability to sing classical opera and a lot of popular music as well. I have all his DVDs and my wife and I regularly include Andrea Bocelli in our Evenings In Our Living Room ... most nights we watch our favorite movies and music videos from 8:00 to 10:30 ... we have a huge collection of music/movies so it never gets boring. I have all of Sarah Brightman's DVDs and Pavarotti and The Three Tenors [Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Luciano Pavarotti] .. they can deliver a song .. go to the end of the video .. I think you'll be impressed.

Been listening to classical music instead of metal all day, at my day job and now while doing office work at church. Several people have been asking me whether I'm alright. :lol

Rock has nothing over on classical when it comes to drive. I always think it's funny when someone objects to rock because it's too stimulating to the senses and wonder if they have spent much time with classical. :wink

Yeah Bach was the metal of his day and age. :rocking
A real good organ in a big church is overwhelming. It may sound more churchy and "sacred" than a rock concert, but it's almost as loud and definitely stimulating.
And those classical instruments are really darn loud. In my church when we have a modern worship band (with mics and amplification and all), plus one guy/ gal with an acoustic instrument (especially brass) you can be sure that the acoustic one will drown the rest of the band and the congregation.

We are all so different when it comes to what we find moves us in some way.
Some people love the organ, I do not like the sound of an organ, harpsicord, or synthesizer. Not even some of the electric pianos but I love the sound of what I call a real piano.

It has in the past struck me to think of the similarity between some of Bach's counterpoint and metal.

Here's one that should appeal to all of eithr genre preference. IIRC, it was Jack who first posted this and turned me on ot it (thanks). I already like Sarah Brightman, but hadn't heard Running. Good enough for a repeat now. Enjoy! :)

Edward,

My pleasure. Running is a very cool song. I have another version on DVD of
Sarah Brightman doing Running, this time on ice with very good skaters.
The audio in this YouTube video is not as good as on the DVD, but its
still enjoyable and you can get the feel of the song and enjoy the skater's
performance.

Intriguing lyrics...so in looking up an interpretation of the song, apparently one of the band members said the song is about someone speaking to their addictions.
The other night
I had a dream
There was a world full of kings and queens
But it was cold
Dark as the night
We were the fire on the moonlit skies

We weren't divided
We were the same
And we were free
But we all wore chains
We couldn't see it
But we created
A place between truth and overrated

If I could just see it all
Just like a fly on the wall
Would I be able to accept what I can't control?
And would I share what I saw?
Or just sit back and ignore
Like nothing never happened,
I haven't seen you before?

I'm on the run from a thief
I let into my head
I know, I hold the keys, so don't be scared
When I turn and shout:

I don't think I need you anymore
Take your words, and your lies and just beat it!
I don't think I need you anymore
Take the hurt and the pain, I don't need it!

I wanna live, I wanna be the change
We can all be kings and queens
If we can just learn to believe
If we can just learn to believe

We had a plan to build a wall
A great divide that would never fall
To separate us
From all the pain
And keep our skeletons locked away

And brick by brick
We built it so thick
That it blacked out the sky and all the sunlight
And one by one
We all became numb
We were making the bullets to a broken gun

If I could just see it all
Just like a fly on the wall
Would I be able to accept what I can't control?
And would I share what I saw?
Or just sit back and ignore
Like nothing never happened
And I haven't seen you before?

None of the bands' members were high when you saw them at Winter Jam, were they?

No...that'd be kinda...not good. Give a bad image.
All kinds of addictions exist, not just the ones you hear about the most such as drugs, smoking, alcohol, or porn.

This is very true.

Of course, in some places in the US one can now get high legally.

Actually, the Canadian leader of the opposition, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau, has been boasting he has gotten high since he became a member of Parliament. The Premier of the biggest province, Ontario, has also said she has gotten high.

Almost seems like some Canadian politicians feel they have to boast they have gotten high, in order supposedly to have an electorally better image.

All rather strange, I guess...

Blessings.

PS: Of course, the big pharmaceutical corporations that make huge profits on their medicines don't want to do testing on cannabis for medicinal purposes; because it would affect their profits. Which makes one wonder what is really driving the draconian policies espoused by the corporations' defenders in government.

PPS: I strongly oppose people getting high; I also oppose ill people being ripped off by corporations who don't want to explore producing more cost effective meds, and seemingly defend their vested interests by 'moralizing'...

So Far Gone, by TFK
TFK's lyrics seem to be more obviously Christian in general than other bands I listen to.
I know they say that the space between
Can make it stronger than we’ve ever seen
They might be right but I disagree
Cause I’ve never felt stronger than when you’re with me

Sometimes I wonder why you even care
Cause even when I leave you’re always there with me
And like a candle makes a brighter place
This mark you’ve made on me can’t be erased.

I wanna be so far gone in you
So far nothing else will ever do
I wanna be so far gone in you
In you..

I’ve stood alone and I’ve fallen down
Your hands were there to pick me off the ground
Sometimes I cry cause I can’t believe
Your love is big enough to cover me

Sometimes I’ve wondered if you’re even there
But when I feel far away you meet me there
And like a candle makes a brighter place
This mark you’ve made on me can’t be erased
Yeah..

I wanna be so far gone in you
So far nothing else will ever do
I wanna be so far gone in you
In you..

I wanna be so far gone in you
So far nothing else will ever do
I wanna be so far gone in you
In you..I wanna be lost

I wanna be lost in you
Like a ship in the night
I wanna get lost in you
Underneath your sky

I wanna be lost in you
Like a ship in the night
So far gone tonight

I wanna be so far gone in you
So far nothing else will ever do
I wanna be so far gone in you
In you…

So far gone in you
In you
In you
So far gone in you

The magnificent piano of Richard Clayderman playing Bridge Over Troubled Water.

If you love really cool piano, the kind that accents the melody and forcefully
brings it out [most people love a song's melody], then you will most likely
enjoy the magic piano of Richard Claydermen.

One more:

Richard Clayderman and Nicolas de Angelis playing L'amour Heureux.
Very pleasant tune.

Cheers.
