What is the gospel?

In the context of the first chapter we see this church (Christian’s) is being persecuted and Paul is explaining to them that God will ultimately take vengeance on those that are against him. Those that have not obeyed the gospel. This should give all the faithful comfort. It should also scare those who have not obeyed the gospel. You might say you love God but if you are obeying what man tells you over what God has told you then you are demonstrating that you dont really love or know God.
I don't believe you answered my question. Could it be those who have not been saved who will have to answer for what they said. And the Christian answering only for the good that was said?

How does one obey it?

Repent is the command of the Gospel that must be obeyed.

Repent means to "turn to God" in submission to Him as Lord.

If we are called to "turn to God" then by default we are called to "turn away from Satan" as our lord.

The way we obey the Gospel command to Repent, is to confess Jesus Christ as Lord.

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10

This is the Gospel Jesus sent His Apostles to preach.

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38

Until acts 2 the gospel had never been preached. Peter did refer to the OT for support in his message so these people could have had knowledge of these Old Testament references.

False.

And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.”
Galatians 3:8

There is no…”could it be”. The text tells us who God will take vengeance on.
Those who know not God and obey not the gospel of Jesus Christ.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1 John 2:4
If you dont do what the Lord commands then you dont know God. The passage is pretty plain.

Why just repentance? You mean in acts 2 when Peter said repent and be baptized for the remission of sins all they had to do was repent? Baptism was optional?

Gospel just means…good news. In that sense you are correct. But the gospel of Jesus Christ had not been preached. I do not think Abraham new Christ would come, be crucified on a cross and then raised from the dead?

Okay now we are getting someplace because I believe this 1 John is not referring to the Christian but rather those not saved yet. What I don't know is could your post also be referring to those who are not born again that will have to give an account for what they say.

Yes. But guess what they had that you dont? They were able to witness the miraculous that was working through the apostles. This is how they knew they could trust the message. The only way we can know to trust the message today is if it lines up word for word with what these new converts in the book of acts did. Peter preached jesus. The people believed the message and he told them to repent and be baptized and that’s exactly what they did. Thats not what most preachers today tell you to do in order to obey the gospel. This is how I know they are teaching a false gospel, it doesn’t line up with what the early converts were taught. Man has perverted the gospel today and has made up his own.
As I said the day of Pentecost converts had not studied the scriptures

As I said the day of Pentecost converts had not studied the scriptures
There is no basis for this statement. The scriptures -- the Old Testament -- was widely known, preached in the synagogues, and discussed frequently at the time of Christ.

No, you just dont think we need to study what “the gospel” really is. If you know then chip in and help us all because without a proper knowledge of what the gospel is you wont go to heaven.
When I was born again I did not know what the gospel was. What I knew was that I had a visitation from the Holy Spirit (you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit).

Then why did you ask the question?

What is wrong with you? You wrote that If you ask a silly question you invite me to give a silly answer. I said that is no answer. Then you wrote: How can you study something that does not exist? Then you wrote the above. Are you incapable of discussing anything rationally?

I guess I must be. I only spent six years at uni, two at bible college, and have written a a thesis for Ph.D. so so my ability to discuss must be deficient with all that learning.

You wrote "As I said the day of Pentecost converts had not studied the scriptures". The New Testament is not the Scriptures. The Bible -- all 66 "books" -- is the Scriptures.

On the day of Pentecost, the New Testament hadn't been written.
