The fundamentalist view of salvation are the words of Jesus as recorded in the Bible. How would you know the sacred love of Jesus without the Bible? Do you pick and choose the words of the Bible which appeal to you as you would in choosing dinner at a buffet? That which you don't like, you don't accept?
I see the sacred love of Jesus in Nature and in my mom when she does selfless things for me. I see the Love of Jesus when I hear of people giving their lives for good causes and curing diseases through science.....
Perhaps one day you will see the sacred love of Jesus when those in the world sacrifice their lives to save those that are lost on their way to hell. There is more love to save one for eternity than to save one for 70 years of less in this life, even though both are important.

As far as the verses that I dont ACCEPT, it is NOT a matter of accepting whether or not they happened or are in the Bible..... it is a matter if whether they were INSPIRED by the God of Love....
Take this baby killing verse for example...
1 Samuel 15:3 (New International Version)
3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy [a] everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.' "
This sounds satanic to me, not Christlike...... Am I WRONG for FEELING that way? Do I HAVE to believe that this is GOOD for me to be saved?
Your understanding is so far removed from God's understanding that it is appalling that you could tell God what he can or can not do with his creation to show his glory in the eternals to principalities and powers in the heavenlies, let alone what he can and can not inspire. He probably should have checked with you or I before he did or said anything, huh?!

The brainwashing and inflexibility lies in the faith of those that reject God's plan. God's plan is open to all. Those that reject God's payment for sin will pay the price for sin themselves. That price is very high. It is eternal separation from the only thing that is good in eternity. The problem is not the fundamentalist and his preaching, for Jesus was fundamental on what he taught. He taught that unless your righteousness was higher than the Pharisees you would not enter into heaven. Jesus was very fundamental in all that he taught. He was pretty specific about those that lived in the darkness and did not want to come into the light.
Coming to Jesus does not require coming to religion or theology....
It requires coming to the understanding that we are all human beings in a painful dilema.. we all suffer and seek for God... LIVING the CRUCIFIXTION is more viable for Salvation than a blind acceptance of the creed in a book......
(Please see Matt 25 for more on this concept)
Jesus told those of his fold to go into all nations teaching those to observe the things that he taught. Jesus taught that the only righteousness that would give one access to the Kingdom of Heaven was his. No one else had righteousness; Isaiah said that man's righteousness was as filthy rags. Jesus told Nicodemas that one must be born again in order to be saved. The born again doesn't come by feeding someone, or giving one a drink of water, it only comes by the leading of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ's sacrifice to the Father God, creator of all.
Notice in Matthew 25 the following underlined portion when Jesus says that when one does one of those good things to his brethren (Believers), they will have done it to Him. Also those that were not brethren (Believers) and did not given food or water or clothes to the brethren (Believers); they were cast into everlasting punishment. God did not create hell for mankind; he created it for the devil and the devil's angels. Unbelievers are cast into the pit of punishment of the devil because they chose not to spend eternity with God through Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, satan has duped many into believing that they are just fine without listening to God's Word.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. Matthew 25:37-46

If I was a fundy Islamist, I would have the choice to believe God or to believe man.
The point here is that YOU ARE NOT a FUNDY ISLAMIST....
In fact as I stare into my pagan crystal ball I see that your past is most likely full of family members that are either involved in Christianity, were involved in Christianity, or have been involved in Christianity......
YOU have been influenced by the massive propaganda on
AM Radio
Televangelism
Friends and coworkers
neighbors
politicians
ALL PROCLAIMING THE RELIGION OF CHRISTIANITY AND NOT ISLAM!
I dont see ANY people close to you, influencial to you, role models to you in your youth, ETC that have the KORAN as their "word" of God!
Is my psychic premonition correct? (lol JK... this is merley deductive logic)
I was 28 years old before I became saved. I was not a Christian until then. Since then my mother was saved, may she rest in peace, but my father is not saved. I was oblivious to the message of the gospel in the radio, television, friends, coworkers, etc. In fact, after I was saved, I was amazed at the information that was available that I had not paid any attention to. I worked in an area where I knew no Christians. God actually drew me away from my employment to another state where he worked out my salvation.
I am glad that I was not influenced by the satanic religions of the world as much as some are, even though I was on the same path as they. God deals with individuals and their hearts, minds, and souls. All individuals have the opportunity to believe God or not. Those in Islamic, Communist, Buddhist, Hindu, Pagan, Satanic religious systems all have the opportunity to know the love of God that sets them free from the god of this world. If they refuse, they will end up just as Matthew 25 says they will.
There is the Word of God, and there are many Words of satan in this fallen world. God will destroy all wickedness at the coming of Jesus Christ. No one will stand as His wrath is poured out.

If I were a native american I would recognized God in his creation according to Romans 1.
So does this recognition of the CREATOR mean that NA people are ignorantly worshipping the same
Divine power that you do in Sunday School?
I could see that!
All are given the opportunity to worship the creator or the creation. All are condemned already, but God has delivered those who will. Remember the scripture that says, "Many are called, but few are chosen"?

You have just explained to me why you are not saved and why you can not understand the complete word of God. You have no respect or understanding of his Word. When you say, "The Bible has beauty and it has atrocities which are hard for me to reconcile", the truth blares loudly. I would suggest in all of the Christian love that I can muster, that you commit your soul to Jesus Christ tonight, and ask him to forgive your terrible sin through his son Jesus Christ, ask him to send his holy Spirit to teach you all things, and believe that God is able to save you and teach you by his Word.
Boy if I had a nickel for every time.....
Then you have no excuse for God may be trying to tell you something. I know this from experience.

Anyways, I Love Jesus and what He stood for. Does that mean that I am supposed to blindly and anti-intellectually believe every sadistic act of the Bible?
God forbid!
It amazes me what people will actually believe without stepping out in faith so that Jesus can change and teach each one individually from the inside out. There is no anti-intellectual, sadistic, untrue act of God recorded in the Bible. The Bible would have had no sadistic, evil acts recorded if it wasn't for satan, satan's angels, and man's sinful rebelliousness against God. It continues still today, but will be eliminated where no one who falls into the catagory described in the Bible as evil will enter the gates of heaven.

First of all it is a translation..... (KJV - NIV)
Second of all it promotes slavery and inequality of sexes (see OT and Paul for this)
Third of all it promotes massive genocides of races (See OT in many examples heres)
Now can I LOVE the parables of Christ, His work of Healing the sick and depraved, His pacisfistic response to violence, His miracles and Ressurection without worshipping a Book?
Yes! God Yes you can!
Just because I question the valdity of extreme fundamentalist hate and still Love Jesus I am STILL not accepted into YOUR fold? (This sounds like a Pharisaical inquisition here)
Your understanding of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the scriptures is totally offbase and in the arena of unbelief, just as I discerned. You refuse to hear the gospel of salvation and blame fundamentalists for you lacking. You are not in the fold by your choice, not mine. You sound like you want to be in the fold based on your direction, not God's direction for you.

If you read the Gospels you will see that Christ contradicts the old dictates of prejudice and hate in the OT.
He is all about
LIBERATION
EXPANSION
LOVE
UNDERSTANDING
COMPASSION
which is a DIRECT contradiction to many events in the OT!
The Word does not contradict itself, The Word contradicts man's intellect and ability to understand apart from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has shown you many times how to become a Believer, but instead you hedge your bets and continue in your way of life because it please the only thing that you have, the flesh. You must be born again in order to understand the spiritual things of God. If you continue to refuse the Holy Spirit's bidding, you will reap a hardened heart, and it will be too late.
