I don't know how you got that from that verse.
If we sin, we are not walking in the light.

I didnt say "If we sin, we are not walking in the light."

If we are walking in the light as He is in the light, we still need to be cleansed of our sin.

7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

To say it another way, walking in the light as He is in the light, doesn't mean we are sinless,; having no need to be cleansed of sin.

Not him personally, but in the meetings.

You ever read Jessie Penn Louis ... War on the Saints?
Yep. Very insightful. Her book has got a bit of flak from Pentecostals over the years, but she certainly did know the difference between the work of the Holy Spirit and the manifestation of demons.

Actually she was the person who got Evan Roberts away and looked after him. She was a bit dictatorial about the way she protected and looked after him and kept as many visitors away as she could. She might have saved him from going into error by making sure he was removed from the revival while still on a high.

Historically, we have seen a number of very powerful ministries who in later years went into things they shouldn't have. For example, William Branham who had a remarkable gift of healing and words of knowledge, but in later years started to believe he was Elijah; and Oral Roberts whose ministry was well respected in his early years, but in later years had a vision of a 90ft Jesus. These sideways steps in error put a blight on their ministries and people now view these men in the light of the errors in later life, rather than the multitude of souls that were saved through their early ministries. By Evan Robert's removal from the revival while it was still at its height saved him from the same decline into error.

Let's look at 1 John 1: 6..."If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:"
Is that about Christians who walk in the light and do have fellowship with God?

Crediting Jesus with victory is not boasting, but recognition for His victory over sin, the world, and the flesh.
If we were still servants of sin after Jesus' resurrection, His death accomplished nothing.
The truth freed me from service to sin. (John 8:32-34)

Context, it is all about context.
He is showing the difference between a life lived for Jesus and a life lived for self as is made clear in verse 7,8, 9,+ 10.

John uses the same alternating method as Paul in Romans 8.
Paul alternated sentences defining, or applying to, those in the Sprit and those in the flesh.
John alternated sentences defining, or applying to, those who walk in the light and those who walk in darkness.

I didnt say "If we sin, we are not walking in the light."
You should have.
The light is God, so there can't be any sin in those walking in Him.
If we are walking in the light as He is in the light, we still need to be cleansed of our sin.
Again, the light is God, and there is no sin in God or in those walking in Him.
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
Amen, and thanks be to God.

Sinners walk in darkness. Not is God.
The cleansing by the blood of Christ happens at the beginning of anyone's walk in the light-God.
By staying in the light-God, we can remain free from sin and darkness.
It is written..."The way of the wicked is as darkness:..." (Pro 4:19)

The light is God, so there can't be any sin in those walking in Him.

Why does the word say, if we walk in the light as He is in the light, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin, if walking in the light means we are sinless?

That’s not what the scripture teaches, that’s your own man made teaching.

You do know it’s disobedience to God to add or take away from His word, right?

... If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Sin is still present with us. John also says that if any man says he has no sin, he lies and the truth is not in him. He says that if anyone sins he has an advocate in Heaven, Jesus Christ. It doesn't mean that Christ gets on his knees before the Father and prays for those who sin. It means that Christ points to the shedding of His blood as His one and permanent sacrifice for sin. When we sin, Jesus asserts to the Father, "I shed my blood as a sacrifice for that person's sin". That enables God to totally forgive and cleanse the person who goes boldly to God's throne of grace and confesses that they have sinned.

It is because we are cleansed by the blood of Christ in order to walk in the light-God.
It is sort of an after-thought.

Like this..."If we drive to the store for milk, there is gas in the car."

It is written in verse 5 of 1 John 1..."This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all."

Doesn't it make you wonder why Paul wrote..."Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame." (1 Cor 15:34) ?
And why did Peter write..."Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;" (1 Peter 4:1)
And why did John write..."Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother." (1 John 3:9-10)
There are other verses that pertain to life without sin, if you are interested in "ceasing from sin".

Throughout this thread one think comes across very strongly.

" I live a sinless life. "
What is sin? According to the sermon on the mount, looking or thinking the wrong thoughts are sin.
You would have us believe you never have a wrong thought, or actually do something that is wrong, petti or mean.

Paul wrote about his rightousness being like used toilet tissue.

This debate has had its interesting moments, I leave it but with a challenge for you and all who think they do not sin.

Read biographies of great Christians from the past, I' recommend Five Pioneer Missionaries.
I recommend this for one reason.
Every great Christian saw himself in the light of Christ like Paul, as the Chief of All Sinners, something you clearly do not see your selves as.

Any who hold to the doctrine that they are now sinless, are not being honest with themselves. They know they are a sinner. They are being dishonest to God and the Bible, and themselves.

Behind this doctrine is a works salvation. A glorying in ones obedience that places them on a spiritual plane above others who bear the Name of Christ.

So you believe the same as a guy on another forum who told us all that he had not sinned once in the last 30 years?

True. What's the point of telling folk if they confess their sin God is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse them (1 John 1:9) if the presence of sin is not with them?

Charles Spurgeon wrote, "I'm just a poor sinner and nothing at all; but Jesus Christ is my all in all.

And D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones wrote:
There is no such person as a good Christian, but we are all vile people saved by the grace of God.

It is because we are cleansed by the blood of Christ in order to walk in the light-God.

Sorry but the word says...

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:7-8

Walking in the light as He is in the light, does not mean we are perfectly sinless.

  • If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves

JLB

It is written in verse 5 of 1 John 1..."This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all."

Yes God is light.

God is our light, and He illuminates us and speaks to us as we walk with Him.

Here is what He says...

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:7-9

While we are walking with God, if we say, lose our temper, we can repent and confess our sin and be forgiven and continue to walk with Him in the light.

What I am not saying is we can walk in the light while we are living in open sin as say an adulterer, or a liar or God forbid a murderer and think we are walking in the light.

Just because you get water baptized, doesn’t mean you somehow become sinless, because your physical body is now dead.

Sure.
Comradery, working together and playing together, above and beyond just church related efforts.
Together we have several trucks we do "loads" with and "moving" with. This is to support the ministry.
We take turns on with which days we help out, and everyone works Saturday.
But besides work, we camp and fish together too.
Plus travel. Go to ball games. Pass out fliers. Visit other so-called churches.
Some live together as brothers, and there are families with children, but we all spend most of our time with each other.
In our daytime jobs, we demonstrate to the watchers that we can be holy during regular business hours, by reflecting Christ in all we do.
Sometimes it is tough to stay separate from those we work with, like not attending their parties and going to restaurants with them very often...though once in a while.
thanks for the awesome info

a few of us are using this info to walk in the Spirit rather than the flesh
