Eternal life - What is this?

I got the little bubble notice about the discussions pertaining to OSAS and related topics this morning. Is this one of the related topics? Being eternal life ='s eternal salvation.

I saw no proof of the word "know" as being different,

Just because you say you saw no proof doesn’t mean I posted no proof that two different word forms appear in the two different Texts:

The word appearing in Luke is:
ginōskō
γινώσκω

See the proof here:

The word appearing in John 17:3
ginōskōsin
γινώσκωσιν

See the proof here:

The differences in the Greek word forms are why the two different verses have two different translations even in what you keep posting:

Here⬆️ γινώσκω is transliterated “I know” by the KJV:

Whereas ⬇️ here γινώσκωσιν is transliterated as “they might know” by the KJV:
they might know G1097

Which is why I asked you; “why is Strong’s G1097 translated in one verse as “I know” and in the other verse as “they might know”?

Here’s the answer:
This difference is precisely because they are different word forms in the two different verses. One is first person and singular. The other is 3rd person and plural. Thus the difference in their translation AND their meaning.

eternal life ='s eternal salvation
As I see it, almost but not quite.

When Adam sinned and brought sin into the world he also brought death which is the consequence (wage) of sin.
(Rom 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—)

When Jesus bore the sins of the world at His crucifixion and then rose from death to new indestructible life.
All of mankind will be raised from the dead.
( 1Co 15:52-54 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.*** So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory.”)

He "saved" all of mankind from death, the consequence of sin.
(1Jo 2:2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.)
(Rom 5:17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

But not all of mankind will be given "eternal life." Some will receive eternal condemnation.
(John 5:28-29 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.)

So, the way I see it is that what is commonly referred to as "salvation: is actually a two part process.
(1) All of mankind is saved from physical death and will be raised from the grave immortal and incorruptible.
(2) only the righteous will receive eternal life.

*** "Immortality" does NOT equal "eternal life." Those who are condemned suffer eternal death. (aka: the second death)

and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed For this corruptible must put on incorruption,
Notice the “we” in this ⬆️ Passage are “brothers”. Not all mankind.
But now, Christ has been raised from the dead— the firstfruit of the ones having fallen-asleep. Now I say this, brothers: that flesh and blood are not able to inherit the kingdom of God, nor does decay inherit undecayability. Behold, I tell you a mystery: we will not all fall-asleep. But we will all be changed—
1 Corinthians 15:20,50-51 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=1 Corinthians 15:20,50-51&version=DLNT

He "saved" all of mankind from death,
Who are you quoting here?

Neither 1 John 2:2 nor Romans 5:17 says He saved all mankind from death.

So, the way I see it is that what is commonly referred to as "salvation: is actually a two part process.
(1) All of mankind is saved from physical death and will be raised from the grave immortal and incorruptible.

Discussing what "eternal life" means is probably not a problem. Discussing keeping it or losing it would be a problem. I think Jim has posted an area the conversation can go and be safe.

eternal life is everlasting your pick if ya want it osas or nosas. i fail to see why adults can not discuss Biblical beliefs . with out going for the jugular . o darn i used the forbidden letters...

My refuge is the Lord.
John 4:23
"A time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks."
As far as I’m concerned, I wish to be known, not as a believer, but as a follower of the one who died for me, and you. I also reckon a time is coming, and is perhaps here, when (many) Christians would want to be known as followers---JMHO
And yes I do make the sign of a cross ---- when I remember----- out of love and gratitude, not to follow any sect or church. I lost the fear of churches and their diktats----- what is right, what is wrong. My church is Jesus and this congregation here --- christianforums.net.
More informative (often) than the churches I attended. I do believe interactive sermons are needed rather than one man speaking and hundreds listening. It's good but not ideal.
I do hope this post aligns with the thread here. If not, I apologize.

Christ Himself IS Eternal Life.
"I am the way the truth and the LIFE",
"I am the resurrection and the LIFE".
"ive come (Jesus) that they (you) may have LIFE".
"I have come to give you LIFE"

The reason you have eternal life, with is actually a term for "being with God and Christ forever", (born again) is because the One who IS Eternal Life, is in you.
"Christ in you the hope of glory".
So, with God in you, you now have eternal life in you, , exactly as God IS Eternal Life.
This is why your bible says that...."As Jesus IS so are we IN THIS WORLD."""".. ( all believers)
This is why your bible tells you, ( and my signature here), that you are already "seated in heavenly places"..
So, you don't earn that by your lifestyle, or your discipleship, or your effort or your good works, as you already have it all, because you have JESUS, who IS your eternal life., and 'as Jesus is, so are WE in this world".

Bingo.:salute:thumbsup

John 14:6~~New American Standard Bible
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

Col 1:27~~New American Standard Bible
to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Here is the proof that Luke and John use the same Greek word.

As you can see, the word "know" is used in both verses, and has the same Strongs reference number, 1097.

https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/Lexicon/Lexicon.cfm?strongs=G1097&t=KJV

Luk 1:34 KJV
Then G1161 said G2036 Mary G3137 unto G4314 the angel, G32How G4459 shall G2071 G0 this G5124 be, G2071 seeing G1893 I know G1097 not G3756 a man? G435

Jhn 17:3 KJV
And G1161 this G3778 is G2076 life G2222 eternal, G166 that G2443 they might know G1097 thee G4571 the only G3441true G228 God, G2316 and G2532 Jesus G2424 Christ, G5547whom G3739 thou hast sent. G649

Again the meaning of the word is clear.

Eternal life is being "one" with Christ, as a wife knows a husband.

This is the last time I will post this evidence, and will not argue further about this, about the meaning of this word know in Luke and John.

If you don't agree then so be it.

If you don't agree that knowing Jesus Christ, being joined to Him as a wife is one with her husband is how we have eternal life, then please list the verses from the bible that prove there is another way to have eternal life, other than being one with Christ; to know Him.

ME

Jesus said
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."
John 10:10-11

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

It is this peace and joy that leads us to overcome the world.
Walking in the peace that Christ provides is so much of measure we have in Christ and the
hope that conquers death.

Eternal life. It happens when the soul leaves the body and either returns to the spirit that gave it, God, so that we dwell with our creator for all time. Or, it enters into the antimatter state , Hell, where God still dwells, Psalm 139, for all time.
God is the source of all things so there really isn't any escaping his presence. Just our consciousness of awareness for all time lets us know where we are. With him always but in paradise or the antithesis of that is our choice while alive. Well, really, God knew before we were born where we'd end up but we're following the breadcrumbs sort of speak to end up as we do.

Eternal life is when you become born again..........born of the Spirit

John 3:3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

Galatians 5:25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers.

We're born of the Spirit, we walk in the Spirit and we love in the Spirit - - - - -Eternal Life

Exactly!

To know God.

To be known by Him.

1 Cor 8:3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him

Life apart from time, as is God, With God.

When we love God, He knows us and gives us a timeless life.

Phil 4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow laborers, whose names are in the book of life.

In Christ

Who can guarantee whose name exists in the Lamb's book of Life ( Revelation 21: 27) ? Only God or the Lamb knows . Everything else is speculation, I believe

------------------------------------------
That's a sad statement Rajesh, I know. I know because I believe Him, His Word. I don't see His Word as speculation. And nothing else makes sense. The natural universe formed out of chaos? Chance? There is about as much chance of God's creation and life arising from chaos as there is a hurricane blowing through the local dump and forming a 747 complete with passengers, serving free mararitas after taking off on a free flight to Hawaii.
I'm with Peter, there is place else to go, only Christ holds the key. My faith in Him is secure.
