I went through about four years of depression. I finally learned to beat it by getting off all the medications they were giving me to combat it.
I firmly believe that other than short-term aids (a few weeks), all drugs do is make you need other drugs..
I share this line of thinking. I was put on Remeron back when I was in the hospital.... mostly to get me to sleep, which it did.
But also because I was SO worried over my messed up heartbeat! And, it worked, I calmed down (as much as I could) and did sleep well.
Then, after the cardioversion, the doctor did not tell me to stop taking it. I wish he would have. Then, one day, he told me my cholesterol was sky high and he wanted me on Lipitor.
This made NO SENSE, as I had no such problem BEFORE and I have been eating way BETTER not WORSE since the hospital stay. So, I read about Remeron - guess what? It is known to boost cholesterol! I went off the drug and my cholesterol is down.
And as I said before, I am almost certain taking Remeron led to my horrific accident in June - the drug messes up your mind! Sure, I didn't worrry, I also didn't seem to connect action with consequence while on it - which led me to turning left in front of a 45,000 pound cement truck - and we ALL know how close I came to death then!
I take my two heart meds, but I refuse to take anything more than those and an aspirin each day.
