has hate taken over?

I went through about four years of depression. I finally learned to beat it by getting off all the medications they were giving me to combat it.
I firmly believe that other than short-term aids (a few weeks), all drugs do is make you need other drugs..

I share this line of thinking. I was put on Remeron back when I was in the hospital.... mostly to get me to sleep, which it did.
But also because I was SO worried over my messed up heartbeat! And, it worked, I calmed down (as much as I could) and did sleep well.

Then, after the cardioversion, the doctor did not tell me to stop taking it. I wish he would have. Then, one day, he told me my cholesterol was sky high and he wanted me on Lipitor.

This made NO SENSE, as I had no such problem BEFORE and I have been eating way BETTER not WORSE since the hospital stay. So, I read about Remeron - guess what? It is known to boost cholesterol! I went off the drug and my cholesterol is down.

And as I said before, I am almost certain taking Remeron led to my horrific accident in June - the drug messes up your mind! Sure, I didn't worrry, I also didn't seem to connect action with consequence while on it - which led me to turning left in front of a 45,000 pound cement truck - and we ALL know how close I came to death then!

I take my two heart meds, but I refuse to take anything more than those and an aspirin each day.

Hmmm....I had a friend who was on Ativan for quite some time. Her doctor told her to go off of it.You do not go cold turkey off of Ativan. You would not believe what she went through and she did not know why.Bad move Mr.Physician.

That's standard... Cholesterol's high, so take Lipitor..... rather than find out WHY..... and eliminate the REAL problem.

I was only on Remeron for less than 3 months - at the lowest dose used, 15mg. Doc told me, 'Quit taking it today'.

Only withdrawal was some odd dreams the first two nights.

Ativan is entirely different than anti-depressants. It's a benzodiazepine used for anxiety. In my opinion those types of drugs are proven to work and may not be a bad thing for people who really need them. Also I wouldn't recommend anyone go cold turkey off of anti-depressants or benzo's.

Now, THAT's a hoot. You rightly call the Doc for stupid carelessness on that move.... but totally trust them to put you on any old drug that crosses their mind?

A good physician will sit down with you and answer all your questions which you should write down before you go in.He should counsel you and tell you about your illness and the meds he wants you and and why and the side effects. Not rush you in and out in 5 minutes.

They are very, very addicting. If a person has to be on it it should be for a short period before you get addicted and your physician or pharmacist should know that timing.

Don't go cold turkey off of anything. And everyone knows that they should always take the full course of antibiotics and take every single pill even though you are feeling better.

I have found that a lot of doctors will prescribe you something whether they can find a true diagnosis or not. Mainly for mental illness. I don't think they have bad intentions, It's just that people hear about this drug or that drug and everyone comes to the doctor thinking they will fix it.

If you get a really good psychiatrist, because a psychologist can not prescibe medications they will be very thorough. It is not good to put someone on a medication unless they really need it.I have hypothryroid and it looks just like depression. That is why a battery of blood tests need to be done.

Getting addicted is a behavior that is learned. If someone takes Ativan in excess for the purpose of dealing with a problem in life or to experience pleasure then they might end up replacing God with a drug like Ativan.

So you do not believe in addictions?

I didn't know that hypothyroid could do that.

I didn't know that hypothyroid could do that.
I experienced it.I could barely get up to the kitchen.I told my doctor that I was either very depressed or something was wrong. He found a very large nodule on my thyroid.Google the symptoms of hypothyroid.Hyperthroid is the opposite.

Well it depends on what you mean. I don't believe it is a medical condition or a brain disease.
I believe the definition of an addiction is something you will have to look up.

The word "addict" is comes from Latin. I can't remember how to spell the original word, but I don't think it's that much different. An addict was a slave given to a Roman soldier as a reward for conquering an enemy in battle.

I don't believe that either.

I think it's about self control. Having the will to walk away.

It's a head game we play with ourselves.
