I disagree. Poor sanitation is a direct result of unaffordable prices. The elderly can't afford to pay for decent accommodations and staff that has been vetted to weed out the less than stellar performers. Their dollars just don't buy very much.
You can get deluxe continuing care in Mexico for $2000 per month. The royal family gets deluxe maternity care in Britain at private hospitals that cost less then regular care at US hospitals.
In the USA you pay about $64,000 for a bottle of meds that costs $6 in Europe. The US elderly just can't afford those prices, so they get sent to unsanitary places where some of the staff is questionable. I get that you want to subsidize research, but America's sick and elderly can't afford to do it all by themselves.
The US system does work good for billionaires, and rich radio show talk hosts.
