Is Easter in the original scriptures? LOL
Bible Only meets reality….actually there is a separate reality for the Bible Only people which ironically is not about the Bible.
What is not in the scriptures?
Christmas
Easter
A requirement for a wedding ceremony to be married.
The Lord’s Day worship on Sunday.
The requirement to stop polygamy and concubinage.
The requirement to stop slavery.
The requirement to build Church buildings.
Strangely enough Christ never told the Apostles to write anything down.
Just exactly what kind of religion do you people believe in?…..It would just be easier to convert to Judaism, then you would not have be concerned about any of this.
If you are going to thump the Bible get it right!
Hey All,
OK. Let's see if you are right Grailhunter.
What is not in the scriptures?
Christmas: (Grailhunter)
Luke 2:4-7 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David)
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
We call this event Christmas because we, as believers, celebrate this day. Now realistically, Jesus was probably not born on 12/25. But who cares. We don't have to know the actual day. And it is never wrong to worship. As believers, we should celebrate Christmas every day. There is no requirement for this to be accurate. We celebrate, as believers, because that was the day God came down from heaven to be with us. It was the start of our being made free.
Easter: (Grailhunter)
Luke 24:1-3 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
Easter changes date every year because it occurs on the Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox. The lunar calendar is 29.5 days long, while the Gregorian calendar is not in sync, so Easter can fall between March 22 and April 25. For example, in 2024 Easter will be on March 31, and in 2086 it will be on March 31 again. So that's the reason for the changing date.
But whether it's called Resurection Sunday, or Easter, it means the same to us who believe.
A rose, by any other name, would still smell just as sweet. (to paraphrase Shakespeare) The important part never changes: He ain't there no mo. Anen.
"A requirement for a wedding ceremony to be married." (Grailhunter)
John 2:1-3 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
So Jesus clearly was not opposed to weddings.
The Lord’s Day worship on Sunday. (Grailhunter)
Acts 20:5-7 These going before tarried for us at Troas.
And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
Sunday gathering to worship as a body became a tradition very early into Christandom.
Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
So the admonishment of the writer of Hebrews is to not ignore the gathering of believers. Sunday is not required. A church I used to attend had a lot of young adults who worked weekends. They could not worship Sundays. That was just their economic reality. So we held Friday night services to accommodate them. When is not what is important. I can agree with you on that portion.
The requirement to stop polygamy and concubinage. (Grailhunter)
I am not aware of any Christian denomination that allows polygamy. Are you?
I am aware of the practice being allowed in Momonism. But they are a non-Christian cult.
The requirement to stop slavery. (Grailhunter)
I am not aware of any Christian denominations that endorse, or practice slavery. Are you?
The requirement to build Church buildings. (Grailhunter)
There was a requirement to build the temple in the Old Testament. The veil of which was torn when Jesus died. The disciples met in the upper room. So we can see a place for gathering is needed.
Strangely enough Christ never told the Apostles to write anything down. (Grailhunter)
If you saw what they saw, if you heard what they heard, could you keep it to yourself? The apostles could not be everywhere at once. It makes sense that they, or a scribe, would write their accounts with Jesus down as guidelines for the chuches they started.
Thump Thump.
I believe we did get it right.
Keep walking everybody.
May God bless,
Taz
