Hope they teach some of the beatitudes ... maybe a parable...A sunday school lesson on Noahs ark .. The Resurrection of Christ.
Actually, when it comes to "teaching", I imagine only the Jews surpass the more traditional CoC's. (I think the stricter ones are called "Doctrinally Sound" congregations, these days. Not that they necessarily have correct interpretations of scripture, but they sure do know the written word, (mainly NT) inside, out.

When I was there, the heavy hitters were known as "Anti's" (because they were against just about everything you might care to name), and they prided themselves on having the unofficial nickname of, "Modern Day Pharisees".

I remember a one of the Waltons shows... one of the girls was trying to be humble .. she wore her most plain dress .. did not fix her hair... etc someone had to slap her out of the pride she carried about her humbleness.

Not so much like that these days.... that's more Nazarenes or some of the Independent Apostolic churches.... maybe Anabaptists, but I'm not sure there.

With the CoC, it's more that they KNOW they are right on everything (even the name), and everyone else is wrong. I'm serious.

Thank God, I'm told a lot of that is changing in some of the more liberal CoC's.

I see the heart break of what is happening in the church i grew up in... AofG... I know lumping all the affiliates into one baskets is not fair. We find it too easy to claim ....cult ...false... heresy ... because folks see things a bit different... I am skeptical of a group that claims "We are the only way"

We are told clearly
Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

For the past year, or two, I have been bouncing between three different Christian forums, (this one is much nicer). And "doctrine" seems to be a huge thing among the participants. So much so, that they largely seemed horrified that I began going to the CoC without really having any idea of all the in's and out's of their beliefs.

I simply saw a sign on the marquee that read: "The church that cares", so I went inside one Sunday morning to see if it was true. It was. In fact, that is what attracted me to the denomination where I now attend, The Vineyard... the people. Maybe I'm weird, (well, my wife says there's no question....), but, to me, a church is probably 85%, the people, and maybe 10%, what they say they believe in,,,, and 5% the coffee and donuts.

The only thing I dislike about the CoC is their objection to instruments in the Worship Service and that is not true of every Church in their association.
Oh! I can't believe I have come so far since those days of no instruments.
Where we now attend, there are sometimes as many as 12 or 13 people on the stage........ and they even offer a bowlful of ear plugs at the Welcome Center desk. It's not big and flashy, but it sure is loud, sometimes. We're among the oldest people there.

Its true that some congregations have apostatized and become very liberal, wanting to be like the denominations. However, because the Lord gave His church local autonomy one congregation may apostatize but the whole is not affected. I understand the 7 churches of Asia exemplify this. Also, some Christian Churches use the name Church of Christ and one must enter the building to see if there is an instrument or not.

Is it CoC or coC that objects to music in worship?
I cannot be definite but I would say mostly coC. While the NT was written in all higher cases the translators use church of God ( which we also use and accept ) and churches of Christ. In both instances church is in the lower case.

Both feel instruments should not be used. The only reason "coC" is used is to stress their insistence that they are not a denomination. (A REALLY big deal with them)

To use, "CoC", to them would be to agree that the NAME of a denomination was being suggested, rather that just speaking of one of Christ's churches.

I always use CoC, because I feel they really ARE just a denomination, like any other.

Thank you :)

some of the stuff we fight over is just plain ol silly :missyou
My reasoning is similar to Willies and just as I use caps in pronouns alluding to Him so I use them when alluding to the Bride of Christ. If I use the lower case it will be because I feel there and not, likely, any saved in that church. I sometimes forget and force of habit drives me but if I write of the Homosexual Baptist church here in Texas I try to remember they are not of the Bride and do not deserve the Church designation.

Just silly old man stuff but it matters to me.

We're allowed to be silly old men, we've earned it.

BTW, I crewed on HU1-A's and B's.... BEFORE they transitioned into UH1's. (In the R&D stages at Benning) Really just 208's painted OD.

My first ship was a B model when I was in the 11th Air Assault. My first ship in Germany was an H-13H and about six months later I moved up to a B model again to fly VIPs. When I volunteered for Vietnam I crewed my first D and on my second tour I moved up to the H model. I still love flying, they are just RC Quads and I teach kids to love flying. A crash here and there but, hey, I'm a real life 67N20, so I need something to work on, right?

Hey, Hey! Harmony Church, here. Stopped by there, off route 27, a few years ago, and the entire area was leveled. Nothing but acres of 15 foot pine trees they had planted, and about three inches of blacktop road left just in front of where the church was. It was like losing a part of me...... I didn't even bother driving on down toward the old Ranger confidence course, I felt so bad.

I was still an Atheist then but I am getting to where I dislike any change and this from a tech savy screwball old freak. I would hate to go to Benning again because of where the military has drifted. I enjoyed with the Air Born, now the Rangers, one of my boys got a medical out of the Black Ops for an injury on a mission he was never on, ya know. And that 350 pound brat laughs at my resistance to fist fight the Rangers back then. Of course that little woman he married swears that only Greek gods are built like him and it's good she believes that but I would not tell the boy no today!

Yeah, those were fun times, but I wouldn't last six minutes on Darby Queen these days
