Is Church of Christ A Cult?

Oba... I found the link "good" as informitive. And imo it was. Good. It gave me more "imformation & insite"....

Also adding a thanks to the extra info posted by web. That was "good" as well...

How do you "know" a COC is "pure" or "tainted" with morman belief for sure?

No you aren't getting it. No churches of Christ are tainted with Mormon beliefs.

My name is Deborah E. but just because you may know a Deborah A. that doesn't mean that she and I know each other, are related, or have the same beliefs we just have Names that are similar.

If you need to know just ask, are you Mormon, is this a Mormon church?

Well I'm not mormon, I'm just a "warrior of god." If your askin' me. I currently have been going to my friends baptist church.. and as I said once before I went to a COC for like 4 months... back when I was in the Army.. I didn't notice any "funny business".

The Church of Christ is no more a cult than is the Baptist Church, it all depends on the Teacher and the followers. i.e. In the Texas Baptist Churches we have one church that is, absolutely, a cult. The Pastor/Teacher is a Homosexual and the assembly, it is reported, is full of actively homosexuals, they make up a Baptist Cult but the small Country Church I attend is a very Fundamental Assembly, having no part with that church "claiming" to be Baptist.

I can proclaim to be a pilot and because of my Crew Member Wings, many will believe me. I can, likely, take an aircraft off and successfully, still today but if one were to look at my DA 201 File, they would find I never was able to log [record] a single hour of stick time [actually flying the craft]. Because I was the Crew Chief/Load Master and the craft, in the States and Europe was often flown by a single pilot, I was often in the Copilots seat and because young pilots fear nothing, I was taught how to fly and how to land and take off and I flew, Pirate Time, well over five hundred hours in UH1s, Oh13Hs, L19s and other fixed and rotary winged aircraft but I was never licensed and that means I wasnever a pilot even though I must correct kids and some adult from assuming I was or am because I still wear my wings and my medals.

There are, likely, COC Churches that are cultic but that as nothing to do with them being called Church of Christ.

When I filled out the DA Request Form it was listed by it's DA number, 201, just as we knew it to be in the '60s. But dating myself has never been a problem with me, I love every day I have lived.

I had one of those. we had to carry them to each unit. loose it and well you weren't in the army.

My wife was raised CoC for 30 years when I met her in a CoC. We were married in that CoC 3 years later. I was a member for about 12 years.
I can tell you, without a doubt, that they are not a cult... just so legalistic and righteously stiff that their underwear squeaks when they walk.

But they are headed for that place Moses saw in Heb.11, a place where there will be no more underwear.

I sure hope so. But, sadly, it may be a long, miserable trip for a lot of them.

It will be a long trip for any so blessed as to get there. And, yes, sometimes it is miserable, for the Christian race of Heb.12 is a race to be endured to the end. Sometimes the race is very steep, at times it descends rapidly and with many sharp right angle turns. The scripture says its by "much tribulation". Many today call it "legalistic" and even in the 1st century the "way" was called a "sect", thus this is nothing new.

God bless,

To be a cult you must bring another gospel message at least that's the way i was taught, from what it says in Galatians..

Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Do they teach anything other than "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved"

Yes, they do.... but like many other denominations, they also teach that you were only saved up to THAT point, (sins forgiven), and that it is now up to you to daily make sure the record stays clean by constant awareness of, and confession of, anything you do wrong.

Hope they teach some of the beatitudes ... maybe a parable...A sunday school lesson on Noahs ark .. The Resurrection of Christ.

yes they do... but? for a minute i thought you were going to say unless your baptized in water you don't make heaven..

It is really very similar to being in a Baptist church. (I was raised Baptist.)
