glorydaz said:Even worse, some claim their good works keep them saved and they can lose their salvation if they don't obey all of the commandments...or if they die in sin, or come short of the mark, or don't "finish the race". Did it matter if the children of Israel were quaking in fear or doubting while the death angel passed over their house? No, the angel saw the blood on the door post and passed them by. They applied the blood.....that was their salvation.
Exactly!
I lot of great posts by the OSAS camp.
I certainly don't mean anyone any offense as I say this but I see the belief that one can lose their salvation in the same basket as the problem the Pharisees had when they thought they could be justified by their works of the law. I see this as a dangerous doctrine as it treads a very fine line between a works based gospel.
I can outline far many more verses than the eleven Cornelius mentioned and those that Destiny mentioned earlier on in this thread. These are all laws that were given by God and yes they are true but they are only effective if you live under the law. And those who live under the law are obligated to obey it entirely for salvation. Born again Christians are not under the law but under grace.
Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.â€[a]
The law is there to show us that we desperately need a savior because none of us are going to be able to obey them perfectly to either keep or attain salvation. If we stumble only at one point of obedience we are a transgressor of the law.
James 2:10-11 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
Galatians 3:13-14 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a treeâ€[a]), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
When we become saved we have freedom in Christ (not a license to sin). Christ has set me free from this bondage to the law.
As a born again believer we will (because of our new nature) manifest obedience to the law through our actions. We will never be able to obey them perfectly but thanks be to Christ who fulfilled the law for each one of us.
Galatians 5:1-6 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free,[a] and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. 2 Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. 3 And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. 4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
