Matt.23

The Pharisees didn't understand the God that Jesus was praying too. Maybe they do now....in hell.

The Pharisees were being admonished for their "outside" appearance yet their "inwards or hearts" were telling a different story.

27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are resembling the whitewashed sepulchers which outside, indeed, are appearing beautiful, yet inside they are crammed with the bones of the dead and all uncleanness."

Been doing a bit of studying and learning and interesting about 666 in the Greek was this: χξϛ

It is the chi xi stigma in the Greek. Hebrew thinking is to look at a word, and break it down to see its function versus Greek thought of giving it form or appearance. Kinda like breaking down an engine into parts and putting it back together again. When you break down the χξϛ what you have is the χ and the ϛ as being the first and last letter in Christ. But what is more interesting is the ξ, is a picture of a coiled up serpent. So tying it in to the above verses about the Pharisees, you are looking at one who has the appearance of being righteous, but the inside they are likened to what?

33 You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?

Another interesting tidbit of the ξ is you lie it on its side, it is the name of allah in arabic. I am not saying the beast will just be Islam, but I think it will be a system of religions, countries, politics etc, etc. I think at the heart of the "beast" will be a false ministry of love and peace, but underneath the surface on the inside, will be war, destruction and death.

Matt.23
What say you?

I think this chapter speaks volumes to all of us. We ought to be careful about filling ourselves up with pride and self righteousness. As Jesus tells us in Mark 9, "35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all."

Arrogance. That's what I'm talking about. The DNA of arrogance is in our flesh. Came when Adam and Cavah chose knowledge of the flesh over life in the fellowship with the Father through the Spirit. It all started with Lucifer when he exalted himself above 'the congregation' in heaven. He wanted to be top dog above the angelic beings. He was not satisfied with servanthood that Jesus demonstrated when He came to this arrogant earth. We r not to walk after the flesh but after the Spirit.
The Pharisees were so full of themselves, enjoying the limelight of their clerical position above the unwashed masses, that when Jesus showed up with a vengeance against their ungodly motives of greed and pride, they rose up together against Him with their own vengeance.
Dave, I've given the scriptures. Matt.23 .
Ryan, that's some rich stuff. I'll have to look into that. So if Christ means anointed one, then the false religious leaders were claiming to be the anointed leaders. 'Many will come in my Name saying 'I am the Christ'.' Matt.24:5. 'Many will come in my name saying 'I am anointed'.' My trans. Am I on the right track here? Makes sense.

the Pharisees perverted the idea of the law and the function of it to point you to god to focus on the law itself and they alone being its protectors. if you study the torah for what it says , it does force one to fall into the hands of mercy, it also wasn't as burdensome as the Pharisees made it. jesus did simplify the walk of a god fearing man.

ie the shabat. that isn't what the Pharisees made it.

Yes, I believe so.

4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.

From my understanding, verses 4 and 5 have often been interpreted as talking about false messiahs. But Jesus speaks to that later in Matthew 24:24. If you take away a couple of the commas, which Greek did not have at that time, it would look like this:

4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. 5 For many will come in My name saying ‘I am the Christ,’ (sheep in wolves clothing) and will mislead many.

I believe verses 4 and 5 speak to the Pharisees of our day, and 20 verses later speak to the false christs. IMO, satans little helpers are none other then some of the outlandish preachers of our time who are dressed in sheeps clothing. Pharisees in Jesus's day, Pharisees in our day.

Nice Ryan, the Hebrew alphabet is rich in truths. A fascinating study.

Virgin, listen to this. A gentle correction. Ezekiel 18:23 God rejoices not over the death of the wicked.

Could you please explain further. In Matthew 23, I'm not hearing this, in what Jesus was saying to the people about the Pharisees?

Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

The Lord Jesus humbled Himself (Philippians 2) and servants are not above their Master.

Blessings.

Farouk, that's what I've been saying ever since I got on this forum.

remember that until the cross the Pharisees were also the Sanhedrin for the most part these were the priests and they taught the law and also ministered unto the lord. jesus was saying when you do the feasts and shabat do them as only moses commanded and any rabbinical addition that wasn't overburdensome.

So was Jesus saying they were false Christs and false prophets? as in Matthew 24

Deborah13. yes and no.moses was not just a prophet but a judge of isreal. remember that in this context foremost. remember that the Pharisees made the law go where it wasn't meant to go. if we read the torah and tanach you will find that the law was to put our focus on god as they had to believe(love) god first then want to please him. jesus came said what? if you love me follow my commands. they were simple as he simplified the torah for us, but the torah first starts with love

first off they never claimed to be moshiac. remember that moses was a judge and appointed the seventy men to be sought out of GOOD character to assist the Judge who would lead the nation. the seveny men aka Sanhedrin were what the Pharisees are. this is why jesus quotes the psalms 83 to them and says your Laws says ye are a god and yet you stone me for saying I am the son of god when I heal, and save?

the high priest annias was the man who was supposed to lead the Sanhedrin and moses was much like that. save a man of character. remember moses only heard the hard cases and the seventy dealt with the normal every day cases of the law. ie legal maters . divorce, theft and so forth.
