My prayer for holiness.

I think it best if the matter of your holiness is left to rest. I can assure you that He will never answer the prayer
God will in fact answer the prayer to "seek out my wickedness until You find none." (Psalms 10:15)

If you pray that prayer, I think that you will get similar results as what I did.

If He does the one thing (break the arm) it is so that the other may be accomplished (no wickedness may be found).

This explanation is offered in case anyone else thinks one can ask God to make one desire to do good without the painful process of self-controlling the desire to do as one feels like which is not good.
It should be clear that if a man partakes of the living water that Jesus has to offer (John 4:13-14, John 6:35, John 7:37-39), he will never thirst again.

You pick out the verses you like, make they say what you want, and ignore the rest. This will prevent you from reaching your desire.

Girl, you are way out in left field.

I have my desire for holiness.

I am also not "making" the verses say anything untrue.

I am taking them at face value.

One learns things in these kinds of exchanges. I’m coming to see that one can suss out whether a believer has cherry picked out scriptures they prefer and ignores the others by asking them about those others, if they accept that teaching as well.

For example, when someone comes to you quoting the “say the magic words” scripture (Those who call on the name of the lord will be saved), ask them if forgiving others is necessary for salvation. Are they going to make that an optional extra too? Or will they realize that one verse does not summarize salvation?

“Thirst” is not holiness.
Are we to Romans 7:18 kjv yet?
18. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

That pretty much gets to how to divide the Word of God into too piles.

The flesh pile
The mind pile

Very few want to go there. This is the battle.

Romans 7:25 kjv
25 . I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

About now some scream.

Rom 8:1, There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:2, For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Rom 8:3, For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Rom 8:4, That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rom 8:12, Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
Rom 8:13,
For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Of course the deliverance was passed a few verses before.

Romans 7:24 kjv
24. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25. I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

At the last trump a change takes place. The resurrection happens.

Does one verse cancel out the other?

Does the fact that this is true,

Mat 6:14, For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15, But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

mean that this is untrue?...

Rom 10:13, For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Is there not a reconciliation for this apparent contradiction?

In that, calling on the name of the Lord means that we will be saved from our sins (Romans 10:13, Matthew 1:21); including the sin of unforgiveness?

We can have victory over the sins of the flesh before that trumpet calls; even in this life.

Rom 8:12, Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
Rom 8:13, For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

2 Timothy 2:17 kjv
17. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18. Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

The resurrection is certainly not past:

However, in Galatians 4:5-7, the Galatians are said by Paul to have received the adoption.

According to Romans 8:23, that is the redemption of the body.

You can also compare Romans 8:24-25 to Hebrews 11:1 to realize something that is awesome...

That while we hope for and do not see the redemption of the body, that our faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (the fact that our bodies have been redeemed).

1 Corinthians 15:51 kjv
51. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

Jesus is the first fruits from the dead. Jesus was changed.

While we have the promise our total transformation is not yet complete.

The scripture says all this is a mystery. So eddif has to say it is a mystery. Will it get done. Absolutely. Is it seen through dark sunshades? Yes. Does sin have dominion over us? No. Do we still sin at times? Yes.

At the last trump we shall be changed all the way (two ways), immortality and incorruption.

Jesus is there now. We are headed there. I do not have all I shall be. Does that destroy my faith? No. Is it still a mystery? Sure seems so.

One day the resurrection will happen.

Because Paul could say that of his holiness/obedience doesn’t follow that we can all make the same claim.

There’s the tendency in the church to select the most complimentary and appropriate verse for a description of how we behave and mind. “Sounds good, by faith that’s me.”

1Jo 4:17, Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

In Leviticus 19:1-37 God said "Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy." then goes on to explain how to walk in holiness, which is also reiterated again by Paul in Galatians 5:16-26 by crucifying the flesh and walking in the Spirit.

IMO, these things need not to be prayed for, but to follow in the footsteps of Christ as we walk in the Spirit no more entangled with the affairs of this world and the lust thereof.
