Question About Mary

The Bible says in several places that Jesus had brothers. Without twisting the meaning of the words to fit your doctrine, were they also conceived by the Holy Spirit or did Mary and Joseph have intercourse? (There are no other reasonable explanations.)
We've been though all this before in Understanding Mary - Ever Virgin, starting at post #46
There is no point in going through it all again.

You don't think that being the Mother of God makes her special?
How many other women in history have given birth to a divine being?

Or perhaps you don't think Jesus is not God - just another human, no-one special.

Nice try to twist the discussion away from Mary. Sorry, but that doesn't work. The discussion is not about Jesus' divinity.

I agree! I'm tired of the constant rationalizations about Mary being "ever virgin". The Bible says no such thing. It's just an invention of the Catholic denomination.

What happens in Mary wasn't "ever virgin"? Will the universe collapse?

No, it's not just a Catholic invention.
The Orthodox believe it.
The early "reformers" like Luther, Calvin and Zwingli believed it. It's just some modern Protestants who go into denial about it.

a) Where in the Bible does it say that Mary is "ever virgin"?

b) I don't accept your idea that only some "modern Protestants" are in denial. How about some evidence?

c) It's irrelevant if the Orthodox denomination and early "reformers" like Luther, Calvin and Zwingli believed it. They are not infallible. Only the Bible is infallible.

I gave quotes from Luther, Calving and Zwingli in the above thread post #1
As to the Orthodox - check it out. They accept the b5th Ecumenical Council .

It's highly relevant. It shows a continuity of belief from early times
Only the Bible is infallible.

Where does the Bible say that only it is infallible?

Jesus prayed to his Father not his Mother. Jesus worshipped his Father not his Mother. She was just his earthly mother. She was referenced in scripture but only prophecy for Christ. Just like John the Baptist and he becomes lesser and Christ greater. John baptised Jesus that's special, no one prays to John.

They all special and loved by God and so is everyone else.

There is only one scripture that might be used to try to spin it in an effort to support the idea of an ever virgin Mary - Luke 1:34. So that's where the "discussion" should center when the assertion of her being "ever virgin" is being contested.

Catholics do not worship Mary.

Catholics pray to many, different Saints is heaven, not just Mary - but not in the same way as we do to God.

There are many scriptures used as evidence for Mary being ever-virgin. They are not "spun" but interpreted.

I have found that trying to convince Mungo and others of the Catholic denomination about the truths of the Bible is like talking to a stone. It is useless. No amount of information can penetrate the minds of those who can't be receptive to the truth.

You have tried to convince me that your opinions are correct. They are not.

You have tried to convince me that your opinions are correct. They are not.
And you have tried to convince me that your opinions are correct. They are clearly not.

A more important question: what is your compulsive need to prove that Mary was "ever virgin"? She is a minor character in Scripture. She was chosen to give birth to Jesus (and His brothers), was mentioned several times (e.g., visiting her cousin, fleeing to Egypt, losing track of him while traveling, telling Jesus to produce wine, attempting to visit him (when he rejected her), and witnessing His crucifixion). She is not mentioned (except indirectly) outside of the gospels. A minor character in the Bible!

You have a clear compulsion to prove her "ever" virginity! Why??? Does it really make a difference if she had intercourse? Does that make her "impure"?

Praying to dead people! That is so unBiblical!!! As a Catholic friend of mine once said, praying to "saints" is nothing more than ancestor worship.

Pope John Paul II clearly prays to Mary “Together we lift our confident and sorrowful petition to you.” “Hear the cry of the pain of victims of war and so many forms of violence that bloody the earth.”

Did you quote my post for a reason?

Are you saying that praying to Mary is valid?
