Mat 10:2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;In some cases the Written Word of God was passed from generation to generation as oral tradition. This is amazing that God was able to preserve His word in this way.
Mat 10:3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
Mat 10:4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
The only ones who wrote their letters that make up the NT canon are Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, James, Peter and Jude. Luke, Paul and Jude were not part of the original twelve, but their letters were important that make up the NT. Not to say the others did not write their letters as many are found in the Apocrypha, but only these ones are found in the NT as being authentic.
Interesting to note that Luke, Paul and Jude were not of the original 12 Disciples, but yet called of God to write their letters to the Jews and Gentiles in their day.
BTW, the authorship needs to be another thread so this one does not become derailed.
