The Ophicial Philadelphia Philles Phanatics Thread

With victories by both the Phillies and the Braves today, the Phillies are still two games out of phirst place. Both teams have fifty games left in the season.

The Phillies didn't play yesterday, but the Houston Astros thumped the Braves 10-4. The Phillies are now 1.5 games out of phirst place.

Not counting today's games, the Phillies are three games out of phirst place. One year ago today, they were 7 1/2 games in phirst.

Their batting is phar worse than it was last year, and their pitching is phar better.

Hopefully breaking out of tandem, the Phillies won and the Braves lost today. The Phillies are not 2.5 games out of phirst place.

Is it possible. AGAIN, the Braves lost and the Phillies won. The phabulous Phillies are now 1 game out of phirst place. The Phillies have 27 games left to play. Can they do it?

The Braves and the Phillies continue to move in lock-step, each losing yesterday. But the BIG news in baseball is:

The Twins were ahead by three points, and it was the Rangers' last turn at bat. With a man on first and second, and their start hitter at bat next, the batter hit a single, loading the bases. But then the umpire called the third base runner out.

As the crowd roared its disapproval, the umpire explained. As the runner advanced from second to third, he had rounded third base and his hand hit the third base coach's hand be accident. The rules clearly state that if the third base coach touches a runner, the runner is out.

The third base coach lost all credibility when he shouted that the runner was nowhere near him--the replay clearly shows that the two made contact.

Well, they did it again. The Braves had a lead, but they blew it, because the Phillies were losing at the same time. The Phillies remain 1 game out of phirst place.

Whoa, I hadn't realized that they were playing a double-header. The phabulous Phillies won the second game, and they are now 1/2 game out of phirst place!

I hate the Phillies!

My local radio station plays their games almost every night so I usually miss Lars larson! Arrrggghhh!!!

YES! THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES ARE IN PHIRST PLACE!

With the first-place Atlanta Braves playing a double-header against the last-place Pittsburg Pirates, it looked like a bad day for Philadelphia. But the stumblebum Pirates, currently the losingest baseball team in American history, won both games, while the Philles beat the Florida Marlins. The phabulous Philles are now one game in phirst place.

Phorget the Phillies! In last night's game between the Brewers and the Cardinals, it was the umpires who shone!

When a fan kept heckling the Cardinals' catcher, the home plate umpire ejected the fan! He was charged with disorderly conduct.

The Cardinals' pitching coach was in the dugout when the home plate umpire ejected him for arguing.

But the home plate umpire wasn't done. When a Brewers' batter struck out, he slammed his helmet on the ground and was ejected.

But there's more! A Brewers' runner scored from third base, but the second base umpire nullified the point, making him return to third. Another runner had deliberately run out of the baseline to block the throw. And when the Brewers' manager came out to argue, the second base umpire ejected him.

A review of all plays indicates that the umpires were right on all five calls.

The Phillies and the Braves will be playing later this evening, but the BIG news in baseball is:

When the New York Mets decided to visit wounded American soldiers, three of them skipped out. When they got caught, they started crying that they were being harassed because they are all Latinos. Then the management blamed the three of them for the Mets' lousy record.

And speaking of the Mets, the Phillies beat them today, but the Braves also won. The Phillies' "Magic Number" is twenty. Any combination of twenty Phillies wins and Braves loss will clinch the division for the Phillies.

(sniff) The Phillies lost and the Braves won. They are tied for phirst place, and "twenty" is the magic number for both teams.

With a Phillies victory and a Braves loss, the Phillies are back in phirst place, with the magic number of 18.

And this just in! Many of you know that the Phillies are the only team in history to lose 10,000 games. But what team is in second place as the world's losingest team, in any nation, in any sport?

Answer tomorrow!
