The Teachings of Paul

The writers of the New Testament epistles were human beings expressing opinions, I believe. They were very wise people, but not perfect.

Weren't the other writers of the Gospels also imperfect people? If not, what planet were they from?

Why do you place more credence in them than anyone else? What about Moses? What about Ezra? Isaiah? David? John?

Re: The Teachings of Peter

I am not a teacher.

It is good for me to witness to what I believe is true, just like it is good for you to witness to what you believe is true.

If you are a Christian you are salt and light to the world, and so you are a teacher. That is why we are trying to correct you, as you are teaching error.

how, then, do you explain paul's first letter to the galatians (11-12)?

"i want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ ... I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie."

as another posted stated earlier, you only have two options:

1. paul is a liar
2. paul is telling the truth

if your answer is #1, you have to ask yourself why you would believe anything else he says?

My dad gave more than two commandments to His children. There are 613 commandments in the LAW; 248 Positive Commandments (do's) and 365 Negative Commandments. My sister was not wrong when she selected a summary statement that my dad taught, "Don't take candy from strangers."

The Apostle Paul is no stranger.

Paul said the law was summed up in one commandment. Jesus said the law was summed in two commandments.

in the greek nt

this verse in timothy is where its used and its translanted as inspired

all scripture is inspired..

now then if paul said that and you believe that the bible is innerent then whats the problem with the other parts of the nt?

I think Paul occasionally misspoke.

We all misspeak occasionally. That doesn’t make us liars.

odd, you do realise that these fallible men didnt write the Gospel till after his death and several decades later.

so.. why do you believe them over paul?

the book acts was the earliest writtten i think.

I trust that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John accurately quoted Jesus.

However, none of us completely understands the Lord’s will yet, and that would have been true of those who wrote the epistles for the New Testament. Paul realized that:

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. 1 Cor 13:12 RSV

but THEY didnt write it till after his death? what makes you trust them more then Paul. keep in mind all that paul did in acts and other apostles luke wrote of, so if paul was off one might think that luke would say hey that aint right as the lord said this as i was there with him when he said that.

peter being one of the twelve that was there spoke well of paul and said that if one twists his words one does so to his damnation!

The bible is the inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God.

This would include the writings of Paul.

I would like to remind everyone of our Terms of service before proceeding further in this conversation.

5 - Respect each others' opinions. Address issues, not persons or personalities.
22 - Respect where others are in their spiritual walk, do not disrupt the flow of discussion or act in a way that affects others negatively including when debating doctrinal issues, in the defense of the Christian faith, and in offering unwelcome spiritual advice.

but THEY didnt write it till after his death?

It seems probable to me that someone on the scene was recording the teachings of Jesus.

There is a difference between remembering the words of Jesus and understanding them.

what makes you trust them more then Paul.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were, for the most part, reporting what Jesus said and did. Why should we doubt their accuracy?

Paul was interpreting the will of the Lord. No one completely knows the Lord’s will. Paul said so himself.

Okay, good enough. It's nice getting to know you here, elijah23. I appreciate your patience.

Godspeed,

I am being asked many questions. Would you prefer I not answer them?

It serves no purpose answering questions if I am not allowed to witness to what I believe is the truth.

I am a red-letter Christian, meaning I believe everything Jesus said in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is reliable since Jesus is God. However, I believe Paul misspoke a couple of times in the Bible.

I know this is not what you believe, and I am not saying I am right and you are wrong, but let me ask you something: How do you expect to learn new things if you prohibit people from disagreeing with you?

There is a difference between remembering the words of Jesus and understanding them.

The writers of the word, including the gospel were not merely using the faculty of memory, but supernatural recollection. Paul and Peter had the same kind of Holy Spirit-fired wisdom added to his endeavours.

That is what Holy Spirit does--He empowers us. These men had experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit that enabled them to do these supernatiral things.

Please read Acts and take note of how Jesus Christ sent the Holy Spirit to inspire, enlighten and empower Jesus' disciples, 120 of them in one place at one time.

This is not a matter of learning something new.

People who have the truth of Jesus Christ and walk in His Spirit recognize a lie and don't fool with it, but rebuke it outright.
