The Tiny House Movement

From a spiritual point of view, I think they 'hit home'.

From a practical point of view - it's a waste of time, because you can't live in one. In the four areas I've lived in in my life, zoning demands that you build much larger.
Where I live now, all homes must be 2200 sq feet. Back in Michigan, I believe the county wide law is 1600 sq ft.

The freedom to live in the home you want to live in is largely gone.
I'm of the opinion that 900 sq. ft. is prolly the minimum a couple can reasonably live in. Honestly? This 'tiny house' trend will fizzle out. IMO, it's absurd to think you can live in such cramped quarters for very long when you really don't have to.

It's an experiment, and one that I think, generally, is fueled by good motives. People are waking up to the foolishness of the excesses we in Western society have been mindlessly indulging these past few decades. But, true to our nature, we tend to overreact when we seek to right wrongs and go to the opposite extreme. We're idiots. :lol No, I'm serious, we're idiots. Thankfully, God has made a way of escape for us. I look to the coming kingdom more and more as each day, and each news story goes by.

$80.00? Hmmm....how did this slip through the cracks? I'll see what I can do about that. Let's see if we can't get you into something even smaller, and in this case, raise your premium at least 50%.
LOL! No thanks. I better be content in the place where I am! :-)

I think you're right that it's a rebellion against the excesses of our society these days. It reminds me of the hippie communes of the 60's and early 70's that were a rebellion as well. For most people these will probably go the same way. I guess the exception will be those who do it for another reason, such as snowbirds living in RVs, etc. But most of those have other property as well. Even living on a boat, I still have a storage unit on land that is as big as most peoples double garages.

Yes, excellent comparison.

Most of them eventually abandoned their communes, took baths, and got jobs in society....and liked it.

I think you both hit the nail on the head in the last several posts.

I'm living in slightly over 700 sq FT now and it's only me. Not bad, but my hobbies are outdoor activities and I'm traveling for the company about 40 weeks a year now, so it works for me.

Yep, and a lot of them are also the ones who also went on to create the excesses we're talking about now. They didn't stick to their extreme hippie roots at all, did they? :-)

Wow, travelling 40 weeks out of the year??? It would almost be worth it to just rent a nice motel room when you are at "home" and have the maid service and no worries about maintenance or all the other things that come with home ownership!

I have thought about it a lot before, and have always wondered how it would be to live on a boat, especially with me being a ocean guy. Living right at the ocean is what I miss the most from growing up in Atlantic City in the summers where the beach was on the other side of the street and the marina down the street, and in Brunswick Georgia I was less that 2 minutes from the ocean and the backwaters. But anyway I just looked it up to check out a little more about it. If I ever did that, I would have to be able to stand up in the boat.

Hey, by their definition I live in a "tiny home" and have for about the last 5 years! Mine just floats. I like it and should have made the move years earlier than I did. My neighbors are the same and they've been living in theirs for about 20 years now. Just got my insurance renewal bill too. $80 for the next year. :)
you would like the marina here then. they do have a few house boats and they boat up and down the lagoon, then its off to another area.

Good point! How ironic is that?

Bank printed super inflation in the K-12 pagan school system is substantially responsible for this. Many areas of the country are attempting to gentrify, in an attempt to keep pace with super inflation in education. However, there are not that many gentry, so millions of McMansions sit empty. Its impossible to gentrify the entire country. Teachers are getting ever more desperate, and are de facto oppressing the bottom 50% in an attempt to gather additional resources. Teachers traditionally use regressive means to fund themselves, so their resource seeking tends to be directed against the less fortunate.

Its unfortunate that the bank has put teachers into the position of oppressing the very people that they are supposed to be helping.

Oh can I be your servant? OH please....Oh please....
Are you sure you want to do that? Remember, I'm a male chauvinist pig :lol. I may treat you poorly.

But if you really want to be one, fill out an application and leave it with my property manager. I'll look at it in the morning...if I feel like it.

If I understand this correctly, that's an interesting connection between legislating home size (and thus tax base) to make up for the out of control inflation in government education costs.

I'm learning a lot these days. And I no like what I see.

How many cooking tanks a month is being used on the boat ?

Yeah, it's one thing to go for a short ride or spend a weekend on a small boat, but to live that way you need enough room to be able to stand up and to move around properly. That means a bigger (therefore more expensive) boat. But on the other hand, living on it means you don't have to buy an expensive house!

Yeah, never been there but I know Florida has some of the best boating areas in the world!
