Understanding The Law Of Moses - With The Help Of The Prophets And The Apostles

The New Covenant did not replace all of the Old Covenant, if by that you mean the Mosaic Covenant which had Laws that were to be followed.

The Moral Law was not replaced, and will never be replaced.

Do you believe the Commandments are no longer in effect?
(the 10 commandments).
Is there scripture that says Eph 2: 15 is wrong?
Is there scripture that says Jesus and Jesus's commandments are not enough to save anyone and one must bring in the 10 to be saved?
Jesus fulfilled the old law.
fulfilled:: 1. satisfied or happy because of fully developing one's abilities or character. God was satisfied with one human fulfilling the old law it was Jesus. Once fulfilled an new covenant could be made and was not like the old covenant. The New Covenant Jesus brought to the Jews and the fact he was the messiah they rejected. Then Jesus offered the New Covenant to the Gentiles whom had never been offered any salvation in the first 4000 yrs. Jesus was asked several times about the 10 commandments and not once did he recite all 10, He did not even say follow all ten anytime. What he did do was quote some commandants, three or four times and added a new commandment. then he said in John 15: 10 If ye keep "my commandments", ye shall abide in my love;
"even as I have kept my Father's commandments", and abide in his love.
why did Jesus say in 15:10 to keep his commandments when he could have said keep my Fathers commandments BECAUSE He brought the new covenant after fulfilling the old law.

12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
And this happened basically at Pentecost.

I understand all that, and my faith is based on that.

What do yo do with the new Christian who has a circumcision party person trying to put him under the law of Moses?

What do ou do with the circumcision party person that is still under the law of Moses?

1 Timothy 1:8 describes using the law lawfully.

Teaching all things. Not saying for peace sake just delete the Timothy passage.

Oh I can stop. But I will stop with the fact that all the things of scripture can be reconciled.

The gentiles received the law in their hearts on the day of gentile inclusion.

Ed , let me see what I can say to help further this thread :study . These verses below in Matthew 22 are as close as we get to a peaceful set of laws .
Matthew 22
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Yes , the laws are wrote on our hearts and and inward parts too ! Jeremiah Chapter 31
31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Christianity is not a keeping of the law, but of loving the Lawgiver. Hebrews says it best.

8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
That is a real good list of laws for the inner man. These are the law placed in the heart and mind.

The only thing is this thread is about understanding the law of Moses.

I have no problem going back and forth between the two. I know that the Royal Law is also in the Old Testament (loving God and thy neighbor.

And in a sense the two are comparable. Paul went to the gentiles and Peter to the Jews. There is one new man.

At the time of Moses law there was no such peace. Prophesied to come but not there yet.

The law was a schoolmaster till Christ was revealed. Then the law was passing away.

Using the law lawfully sure seems elusive to some. I can try and will try as long as possible.
Looks pretty impossible right now. LOL

The law of Moses is for the sinner.
The Royal law is for the saved.

A veil still falls over the understanding today when the law is read. Human intelligence does not understand.

The 10 commandments of the law of Moses are on stone. They point out what is not to be done.
Without the law there is no knowledge of sin. They fit the people of Israel in the wilderness.
10 is used to represent the whole. written on both sides of the stone with no room for the oral traditions of dying mankind.

The whole Bible is the "book of the law" called the letter (death) It does not offer the philosophies of men called private interpretation or heresies. Each word is law not subject to change. Change one word change all the commandments.

Deuteronomy 4:2Ye shall not add unto the word(single) which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it,(single) that ye may keep the commandments (plural) of the Lord your God which I command you.

The letter Thou shall not, or you will die. What is needed is the born-again spirit according to the law of faith (the unseen things of God)

The law held man in bondage to sin and death because man could not follow the law in his fallen state .
Galatians 4
3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

When you become born again the laws are written in your heart and mind and with the help of the Holy Spirit you will now follow the way of the new covenant in your walk with Christ .

Amen the letter of the law "Death" the school master.to bring us born again life . The law of faith. . Christ's labor of love that works in us to both reveal his will and empower mankind to perform it to His own good pleasure.

Philippians 2:13-14 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

Two laws working as one new perfect or complete Death and life. The power of the tongue of God death and life

Romans 3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Together one perfect law

Exodus 20:8 kjv
8. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10. But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

And Jesus worked and we enter into his rest.

There are positive statements about the sabbath. There are negative statements about the sabbath.

Jesus healed on the sabbath. That is why (IMHO) that it goes both ways. There are other statements about the sabbath an personal belief issues.

I don't have a reply for the above unless you wish to derail and discuss the Sabbath.

Very good post.

That is the information we carry to both groups. The power to speak to Jews was given at Pentecost. The power to speak to the gentiles came when Peter was speaking to the gentiles.

The comment Was not about the sabbath as such. The comment was a positive (do) at the first of the sentence and a (shall not) toward the end of the commandment.

You know a redneck has to be asked for clarification. Sorry.

1 Timothy 1:8 kjv
8. But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
9. Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners

The law is for sinners vs the law is for the saved?

Eddif, I'm afraid we're going to have to stop for a few minutes and get this straight:

WHAT IS THE LAW?

When you mention the word LAW, what exactly do you mean?

Is there scripture that says Eph 2: 15 is wrong?

I don't believe so.
Is any scripture wrong?

Is there scripture that says Jesus and Jesus's commandments are not enough to save anyone and one must bring in the 10 to be saved?

What are Jesus' Commandments?

Jesus fulfilled the old law.
fulfilled:: 1. satisfied or happy because of fully developing one's abilities or character. God was satisfied with one human fulfilling the old law it was Jesus. Once fulfilled an new covenant could be made and was not like the old covenant.

What is the difference between the Old and the New?

The New Covenant Jesus brought to the Jews and the fact he was the messiah they rejected. Then Jesus offered the New Covenant to the Gentiles whom had never been offered any salvation in the first 4000 yrs.

Are you saying that no one was saved until Jesus died?

Jesus was asked several times about the 10 commandments and not once did he recite all 10, He did not even say follow all ten anytime. What he did do was quote some commandants, three or four times and added a new commandment. then he said in John 15: 10 If ye keep "my commandments", ye shall abide in my love;
"even as I have kept my Father's commandments", and abide in his love.

So Jesus stating a few does not mean anything?
Maybe He didn't know he was supposed to quote all 10.

why did Jesus say in 15:10 to keep his commandments when he could have said keep my Fathers commandments BECAUSE He brought the new covenant after fulfilling the old law.
What's the difference?
Isn't Jesus God?

Please explain...
Since Jesus fulfilled the Law,
are we no longer required to keep the 10 commandments?

Eddif, I'm afraid we're going to have to stop for a few minutes and get this straight:

WHAT IS THE LAW?

When you mention the word LAW, what exactly do you mean?
The law I am speaking of is the severe non bending death must come. The woman caught in the very act of adultery and brought before Jesus. Guilty? Yes. Forgiven? Yes. Exactly why she was forgiven? I can assemble my best thoughts, but as far as having a word of knowledge, I don’t.
Why God would die for our sins? Because God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. That whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. (From memory).

The commandments have both SHALL's
and SHALL NOTs.

I don't know why this is important.

OK
We're talking about the Law.
The Law means different things to different persons.
Don't know why.

The Law usually refers to the Law of Moses.
Some of the Law of Moses was given by God and some was written by Moses himself
in order to keep order with the Israelites who had lived under slavery for hundreds of years. (400).

The Law in the OT was divided into separate sections.
The 3 main sections are:
THE CIVIL LAW
THE CEREMONIAL LAW
THE MORAL LAW

The Civil Law had to do with how to get along with a neighbor, legal things, etc.
The Ceremonial Law had to do with when to worship, sacrifices, marriage, etc.
The Moral Law was given to Moses directly by God on Mt. Sinai.
The Moral Law will never become outdated.
The civil and ceremonial laws have been abolished.

If we don't come to an agreement regarding the above, we'll speak past each other, and also other members,
forever.

Ok thanks.

Now I have a hint as to how to go forward.

Jesus told the Religious leadership: by your traditions you undo the word of God.

Side notes of our favorite sources can be wrong. I basically quit reading commentaries. They can be pretty bad. Do I trust my comments? I hope my comments are correct. We should always have others monitoring our statements with scripture.

We can look at redneck notes:
Shadows of things to come
Types of people, places (?)
Concepts over context (?) (commandments contained in ordinances)

Anyone care to question / comment?

I hope ere starting to understand the value of the law.

The Jew may see the law was not all puwerful in their life. Physical benefits could abound, but not grant eternal life.

The gentile could see the law would not address eternal life. The gentile would seek something deeper.

The Jew becomes jealous. The ge
Tile should be humbled. The gentile should expect the Old Testament Jew as a brother at the Resurrection (due to the Gospel preached in Abraham’s bosom.

So the law is passing away; except in needed areas
