Windows 8 is ugly

I will be returning this Windows 8. The guy who handles that stuff should call tomorrow. The Dell tech guy had the nerve to suggest I BUY windows 7 and install it in this new computer.... I politely told him it is not my place to correct the mistakes of Microsoft.

Tim stop laughing.... :rollingpin

I'm laughing so hard I woke up my husband. I got a Dell with windows 7 this summer--2 terrabytes space and 12 of ram. It is a tower and I can't tell you how much I love it. THen when I was to have my knee replacement and couldn't sit at my computer desk, I got a Galaxy 2 Pad so
I can keep in touch and check email. I am told by techs that it is more like windows 8. IF so I will never get 8. I have all this junk on it that I never want to use and i can't get rid of it. TAlk about frustration. I have spent more time with tech with this thing. AT least their tech help is accessable. Finally i was able to download a couple of things like Bible programs and a game of solitaire. THe clock wasn't working right and I had to wipe everything out and go back to factory setting. HUbby gave me a keyboard for Christmas and now I can touch type again. MUch happier. BUt I still wouldn't choose to get it.
ON a higher technical level, I got my cataracts removed, too so I can see as well as walk. A real make over. PRaise God. ONe of my MDs even prayed for me before surgery.

Without bashing Microsoft as I usually do, I take some sympathy in a fellow who is down, even someone I don't like. Microsoft IMO from what I am hearing really did a number on themselves with Windows 8. Most people who buy a Microsoft computer today are begging to have Windows 7 installed instead while retailers and Microsoft are attitudinal about giving them what they want. That's a suicidal death wish if you ask me. It's like government and big bureaucracy. They ask people what they want, and then do something opposite, and wonder why they fail later on (I guess because they know 'what's best for you').

This is my analysis as to what happened (and see if y'all don't agree). The idea behind windows 8 was to merge that with personal devices, i.e. smart phones, tablets, etc similar to what Apple has. They coveted the success of Apple and tried to build a new OS around the device idea and then extrapolate that to the (dying) computer tower as well. In other words, the tower is not the standard, but now your phone and tablet is. So they tried to mimic the OS of Apple, and others such as Android, etc.

The problem is............ Microsoft does not have experience in that market. The OS that runs these devices are Unix-like based, something that Microsoft sadly lacks in. Their platform is altogether different which is why they get viruses. But they "all of a sudden" want to jump in and now play with the Unix boys so-to-speak and create an OS that can not only run computer towers and laptops, but phones and pads as well?
I don't theeeeenk so. And that's why Windows 8 is such a mess from what I can see.

Windows is usually a follower in the market, not a leader. However, they have been loosing such a huge portion of market share they have to do something different or they will face the wrath of antiquated technology just like Palm and Blackberry. It has it's surge and now it's in decline.

That being said, Microsoft 8 is a bold new OS and frankly, I think it's a little ahead of it's time. Really, it's geared toward cloud technology where one day soon even your computer will be a virtual computer ran off a simple appliance such as a smart phone or tablet.

My daughter just got a new laptop with Windows 8 except her laptop has a touch screen. When I was playing with Windows 8, I kept wanting to swipe the screen... so for her it was a natural transition. But what I can say is that without the touch screen I can see where navigating the OS with a mouse would get frustrating. Add in a touch screen and it's second nature.

Like I said, I think it's just a little before it's time.

Why do you think so, Stove? Can you prove that, Bolts? Say something, StoveBolts.

F: are you also among the prophets of humor?:D

IDK. On the one hand it might be humorous. On the other, it's quite true, and as regular as a computer, that often people reaching the age of 18 go to the parlor for their first tattoo.
