Windows 8 is ugly

Could he have tuned the Bolts so high? :dunno :shrug :confused

Windows is usually a follower in the market, not a leader. However, they have been loosing such a huge portion of market share they have to do something different or they will face the wrath of antiquated technology just like Palm and Blackberry. It has it's surge and now it's in decline.

That being said, Microsoft 8 is a bold new OS and frankly, I think it's a little ahead of it's time. Really, it's geared toward cloud technology where one day soon even your computer will be a virtual computer ran off a simple appliance such as a smart phone or tablet.

My daughter just got a new laptop with Windows 8 except her laptop has a touch screen. When I was playing with Windows 8, I kept wanting to swipe the screen... so for her it was a natural transition. But what I can say is that without the touch screen I can see where navigating the OS with a mouse would get frustrating. Add in a touch screen and it's second nature.

Like I said, I think it's just a little before it's time.

Actually, I have another post somewhere that I mentioned windows 8 was trying to satisfy the device market, and Microsoft is trying to get their share in it. I don't remember off hand where I put it, and don't feel like looking for it right now. But I agree with you. My oldest son, a mechanical engineer, loves windows 8 and has a dual boot alongside his Mac OS. But he's heavily into his devices as well.

The issue here, as I see it, however, is not with that aspect, but in sympathy with Reba they had to take this device technology and apply it to the desktop as well, something which people (and certainly industries) at this point do not want.

And secondly, I still get off with my malware tirade. I'm not convinced that windows 8 is much safer. The pad they offer seems to me a skinny version of a laptop, and will get viruses. And if the same OS is used on other phones and devices, it, too will get malware.

As you well know, there's many kinds of malware. But I like to make things simple and break it down to basically two types: 1) the type you deliberately download as in tricked to do so (aka Trojan) or 2) the type you did not consent to having and it downloads itself by merely visiting a site (drive-by malware) or opening an email, etc none of which are voluntary actions.

All OS's, including Linux, can get #1 if one is very careless, but nothing will download without giving adequate warning. It's #2 that infuriates me, and only Microsoft gets that type. But critics will act as if a Microsoft user got #2 as if it was a #1 type malware and insult their intelligence claiming they were careless instead of having pity for the user the way I do. My prediction is that no matter how advanced Windows 8 may be for the device market, until they can handle this "#2" malware issue, they are still going to be in trouble.

Hmm... Windows and #2 in the same sentence. The irony of it all lol!

I agree with you though and I'm glad Linux is bubbling to the top!

Found out one of the reasons I hated my pad. The screen was defective and tech support told me to send it back. The cursor jumped every
where, even to the address line. At least it wasn't due to pilot error this time.
