What does the word "works" mean in Ephesians 2:9?

What does the word "works" mean in Ephesians 2:9?

The context is "works of the Torah" (see verse 11). Non-Jews, such as the Ephesians, didn't have to become Jewish and become circumcised to be saved.

Verse 10 clearly says we must do the Will of God, good deeds, since we are a "workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

We should walk in them (good deeds).

Acts of good deeds done to others without asking or permission, ultimate initiative to help others when they dont need it, sacrificing your own time and effort to help.thats my take of on it anyhow

Sure. I would add:

Something done without any expectation of repayment or reward. The giving of oneself to another freely.

'Not of works' in Ephesians 2.9 qualifies salvation by grace, through faith, the subject of verse 8.

In other words, we cannot earn our salvation in any way.
