What reason do we have to not think He will? He said He will, and scripture usually means what it says and says what it means. I don't understand why you doubt this.

Jewish literature is really rich in metaphors. The sun and the moon, for example, are not talking about the celestial bodies. The dragon is not a big lizard. The woman is not a human female. Candlesticks are not wax objects that illuminate a room. So there’s able reason to
think „new Jerusalem” doesn’t mean bricks and grass and trees and avenues.

So if not, then what does it man? Take a stab at it.

Well I'm at a loss to see what sort of symbolism it is to describe a city coming down from God. I know that revelation uses some symbolism but I missed tis one. So what would this symbolize?

Is anything too hard for God?

After Jesus was resurected he ate meals with the disciples. Fish on the beach. He told Thomas touch me I am flesh and bone. Spiritual doesn;t always mean ethereal, it just different.
This is just a start.
Matthew 5:14 kjv
14. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

The city does not make a proclamation, but the people do.

An empty city speaks not. The people take the word with them wherever they go.

The empowerment of witnesses came from heaven.

You lost me Brother. I don't understand how what you said is relevant or explain what symbolism it represents if it does not describe what literally happens.

That's the way I understand it too. All except for the rapture is at the 2nd coming. I believe the rapture has to happen before the Tribulation...because Jesus would not treat His Bride like that. (Hey honey let me beat the tar out of you and then we'll go to dinner...No.

Besides, I think scripture shows us it. The 2nd coming is exactly as described.

In the rapture, two will be in the field and only one is left behind. The people raptured just disappear and go to be with Jesus, to the marriage supper of the lamb.
And when He returns...hHe brings all of the saints with Him!

At the 2nd coming. When He will touch down on the Mt of Olives, stop the war, destroy the enemy and then the dead are resurected at that time, to rejoin their soul (which has either been in Heaven with Jesus or in scheol).
The condemned risen to death, and the saved bodies are risen in life, and take on immortality like Paul said.

At the Rapture everyone (qualified as Bride) goes body and soul but they do not receive their glorified bodies first. Only at the 2nd coming. So no one precedes the other.

Yes. Rapture could happen tomorrow.
I will give you these verses to ponder as I do not believe in a pretrib rapture and this is what Jesus taught us to look for on the last day when He returns in His second coming.

Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

BTW, I use to believe in a pretrib, but could never find it in the Bible.

This is my understanding of the end of days when Christ returns.

We do not enter the Millennial Kingdom here on earth in our natural bodies, but in new glorified bodies, 1 Corinthians 15:51-54. When Christ returns in the air on the last day we are then caught up to meet Him in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord as He has made us unto our God kings and priests and we shall reign on the earth as we rule with Him over the nations as His enemies have become His footstool in the end of days, John 5:28, 29; 6:40; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; Rev 5:10; Psalms 110:1-4; Hebrews 10:12, 13.

Matthew 24:29-31; Rev 19:11-21 Jesus descends down from heaven with His army of the host (angels) of heaven as while remaining in the air He sends His angels out to the four corners of the earth to gather His own to Him. He will destroy the beast and false prophet casting them alive into the lake of fire, Rev 19:15, 16. The remnant in Rev 19:21 are the world leaders of every nation on the earth that have followed after the beast that rules their government. The remnant will be slain by the very words Jesus speaks of their damnation as the fowls will be filled with their flesh and at that time Satan will be chained and bound so he can not interfere with the ungodly people that are still alive on earth that become the footstool of Christ. Then the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ and He shall reign for ever and the saints will begin to rule over the nations here on earth, Rev 11:15; 5:10; 20:1-3; Matthew 5:5.

Rev 20:7-10 Those that have rejected Christ that still remain on earth after the beast, false prophet and all the ruling leaders from every nation that followed after the beast are destroyed are those who are the numbering as the sand of the sea. These are the enemy of God that Satan uses to battle against the saints during the battle of Armageddon that are camped upon the breadth of the earth after Satan is released for a season, Psalms 2:7-10; 110; Ezekiel 36; 37; Rev 20:7-9. The saints are camped not only in Jerusalem the beloved city of God, but also throughout the breadth of the earth. It's only the 144,000 generational Jews that believe in Christ that have returned to Jerusalem. After the 1000 years are fulfilled Satan is set loosed for a season and goes out to deceive the nations as he gathers the enemies of Christ to battle against the saints as the numbering of unbelievers is like the sand of the sea. As the enemy surrounds the camp of the saints God sends fire down from heaven and destroys the enemy and Satan is cast into the lake of fire. Zechariah 14; Luke 21:20-22 and Rev 16:16 mentions the battle of Armageddon when Christ and His army of angels return as Christ plants His feet on the mount of Olives for the final battle as Gog and Magog found in Ezekiel Chapter 38 is the battle of Rev 20:7-9.

(IMO 1000 years is a figurative number, not a literal number. It is figurative like the numbering in Deuteronomy 7:9; 1Chronicles 16:15; Psalms 50:10; 90:4; 105:8 Ecc 6:6; 7:28; Daniel 5:1; 2Peter 3:8.)

John 5:28, 29; Rev 20:11-15, now comes the Great White throne judgment as the books are opened with one of them being the Lamb's book of life where all the saints of God have their names written as they have part of the first resurrection of eternal life on such the second death hath no power, Rev 20:6; 1 Corinthians 15:54-57. The other books are opened being the book of damnation where the enemies of God that were killed while trying to destroy the camp of the saints are now joined with those enemies of Christ that were also raised from their graves and are reserved, 2 Peter 2:9, as now since they were condemned and judged will be cast into the lake of fire. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. While the saints are with Jesus the earth will be renewed and the New Jerusalem is ushered down from heaven, Rev 21.

Matthew 24:22 these days are shortened for a time that only God holds back or extends to allow His purpose for the last one to repent and turn back to Him before Christ returns, Rev 19, as God alone knows their name. Only God can shorten days like He did with Hezekiah as He caused the sundial to go backwards ten degrees, Isaiah 38:8, which was possibly five hours and again in Joshua 10:12-14 God extended the daylight for Joshua to defeat the Amorites.

Christ returns on the last day at the seventh trumpet and on that day His Bride being the collective body of believers through faith in Christ and sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption will be caught up to Him. Both asleep in their grave and those who are alive at His coming will then be kept safe on that day while Christ fights the final battle casting the beast and false prophet into the lake of fire and slaying all those nations (people) who come out to fight against Him.
(John 5:25-30; 6:40; Ephesians 1:3-14;1 Corinthians 15:51-57; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Rev 19; Zechariah 14:1-6; Luke 21:20-22)

I thought Jesus said forgive them.
So
Jesus himself bore the wrath.

A victim of a crime or evil needs to forgive to release unforgiveness and the resulting bitterness. That does not mean the Judge of the Earth will not execute justice.

Jesus told those who were responsible for his crucifixion
that he was coming back in judgement and it would be horrible. It was. The blood from Abel to Zechariah was required if that generation. He warned the women crying for him to cry for themselves. The wrath of God was poured out on those who pierced him.

Luke 9:51 kjv
51. And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,
52. And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
53. And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
54. And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?
55. But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
56. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

I seem to agree with FHG on most things excpt for thr rapture and when it happens.

I used to pretrib. Then FHG, JLB and others made such a good case for the rapture being after the tribulation that I moved to their way of thinking. Post Trib.

But it continued to bug me, but I couldn't put my finger on why. But slowly over a period of time, I think I ut it together and my thoughts now are that, I was right in the first place, Jesus has too much Love for His Bride to let her go through the Tribulation.

In Matthew 24, I've been taught that it all describes a single event. And it sounds like it does, unless you are paying very close attention.
Let's look at Matthew 24: 36-42

No. Let's start at the beginning of the chapter. In verse 3, the disciples come to Jesus privately and ask what signs will tell us that the end of the world is near?

3 Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and said, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will signal your return and the end of the world?[a]”.../

No man knows the day or hour that the rapture happens, not even Jesus. But the signs of His 2nd coming are all spelled out for us, right? Ok so all of the signs He talks about must be talking about the 2nd coming. I get that, the rapture wont have signs, but the 2nd coming will.

Do we agree that you can practically set your watch to the Lord's 2nd coming by the events of the Tribulation? The antichrist will sign a 7 year peace treaty with Israel, and the countdown begins, right? Jesus is giving us all of the signs that will show that the end is near...

Verses 4 through 31 is a detailed description of the accompanying signs to the end and Jesus's 2nd coming...you with me?

Ok, now here is where we have to pay very close attention. Now Jesus has clearly been talking about the end times, the 2nd coming. But He continues to talk, and if you don't be careful, you wont pick up on the fact that Jesus changes the subject in verse 32 and starts talking about the fig tree...(not the 2nd coming anymore).

32 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. 34 I tell you the truth, this generation[j] will not pass from the scene until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.

36 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself.[k] Only the Father knows.../

Verse 32, first word! Now learn a lesson from the Fig tree...No matter which translation you are reading it will translate as Now, however, or considering...it is a conjunction, He's changing the subject. Now listen to something else (He could have said). The word is a contrastive introduction of a new subject and it should have been translated as, "but concerning".

32 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his return is very near, right at the door.../

So He is comparing the Fig tree to the end times and when you see the branches bud and leaves sprout...when you see all of the signs we just discussed, you know the end is near...talking about the 2nd coming (because there are signs) and making an analogy about a fig tree showing you when it's fruiting time to the sigs that we will see before the 2nd coming...

34 I tell you the truth, this generation[j] will not pass from the scene until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.../

That would be the last generation but you can see the analogy is comparing a fig tree to the 2nd coming...

36 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself.[k] Only the Father knows.../

And Jesus goes on to make another analogy about the days of Noah and the Rapture, and we know this because no one knows when these things will happen, not even Jesus. So it has to be the rapture He speaks of.

What was it like in Noahs day? People didn't believe in Noahs tale of rain coming. He preached on it for four generations! And people were like, oh I'm getting married today, I'm going on vaacation. It was business as usual. All the way up until it started to rain!

Then 8 people, Noah and his family...were raptured out to live from the flood, and the entire world perished. We have the saving of a few souls and the judgement of many. They died!

Matthew 24
37 “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. 38 In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. 39 People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.

40 “Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left.

42 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.../(NLT)

You see, the disciples asked Jesus about end times. Jesus told them. Well, there's my 2nd coming where I stop the war and destroy the enemy and these are the signs of it, and there's also the rapture incident which has no signs or warnings so we better be ready! (doctrine of immenince) ...and explains both in Matthew 24.

This is so, I believe what I have said.

I tink the phrase, the coming of the Son of Man...could be used to speak of the rapture, or the 2nd coming. Don't let that confuse you.

In one coming, we meet Him in the air. In the other He comes to the Mt of Olives! They are different times.

You see, Noah and the flood are analogous to the rapture and the tribulation.

The fig tree parable and signs is analogous to the 2nd coming.

So it's a pretrib rapture.

You are in the area of scripture to make some decisions. Kind of forget what you were taught. Let the Holy Spirit direct you. Examine what you come up with by reading more scripture.

for_his_glory always says do personal study. Not that you come up with an off the wall theory, but you listen to what the Spirit says.

You are putting the stress / emphasis on the first death of the world. The 2nd eternal death will come at judgement.

You know journeyman, you might be really blessed to look into how the world changed since Christ.
I'm blessed when I look at how Christ changes people.
Look up, for example, the spread of christianity. Look up the improvements in education, child mortality, longevity, poverty, and freedom. Look up the decline of dictators hand despots. Compare how long ruthless governments last now as compared to 2000 years ago. It’s very exciting.
I understand how people who come to Jesus make the places they live in better.

No I'm not. At least, I didn't mean to. I meant to say that Noah and the flood are analagous to the reapture and tribulation period.

The fig tree parable and signs is analogous to the 2nd coming.

So it's a pretrib rapture.
Why do you say this? Some background: It was said in the 70s that the fig tree is Israel and 40 years after its founding, Jesus will
come because that was a sign. Now 80 years later he still hasn’t come.
