A look at 1 John 3.6

Yes. I realize that this statement will likely be looked negatively upon, because the prevalent teaching is that Christians continue to sin.
That is a false teaching.
Jesus said the truth would make us free, in John 8:32.
The Jews said, "from what ?"
Jesus answered..."Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin." (John 8:34)
The truth can free us from serving sin !
However, people may differ in understanding of what "sin" is.
As John said, in 1 John 5:17, "All unrighteousness is sin..."

I completely agree.

As John said, in 1 John 5:17, "All unrighteousness is sin..."
Yes. Those who are freed by the Truth are made righteous:

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Cor 5:21).

The Savior said, "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Free from what? Free from sin (John 8:31-36). John testifies that what the Savior promissed came to pass, "Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him." (1 John 3:6). If some Christians sin, it means they don't know Him.
I knew God, but I rebelled against his clear call to be a pastor like Jonah's rebellion. When I became a pastor, I knew God through trust in Jesus, but my unconscious mind was full of self-centered anger because of losses, including the death of our second boy, when God delivered me from seven years of depression. I knew God but brought him my complaints and requests for him to remove physical pain like David in Psalms 22, 39 and 88; Job in chapter 10; Habakkuk; and Jeremiah in Lamentations. He chose not to relieve my pain, as he did for Paul's "thorn" (2 Corinthians 12:1-10), whatever that affliction was. Even Jesus asked the Father why he had let his enemies surround him, yet without sinning, by quoting Psalm 22:1.

Christians who know God do sin and constantly need the cleansing power of Jesus' death, but they are not dominated by sin and Satan. That is John's teaching.

If they are sinning, and they can only serve one master, Jesus says servants of sin hate God. (Matt 6:24)
