friend of christ i said what i said because i struggle part of me wants nothing to do them as it reminds of my former life and yet i know that they a deliverer, jesus, i wouldnt advocate being friends accepting thier lifestyle, however do u see them at the gym, work and not talk to them, reaching them can be done directly or indirectly our lives will convict if we live in christ, that's what i mean, but what the drunk, the whoremongers and like sinners do we hang with them as well? be honest or do we isolate ourselves from the sinners

'talking' with sinners isnt the issue here...nor eating with them. I have no problem with either.
But we are not to be 'yoked' together with unbelievers...and in my opinion that includes the closeness of 'friendship'.

I'd be very certain that Jesus did not sit around eating with those who would be close friends while they were in open sin and not say something about it.

If you knew a man you were close friends with was beating and raping his wife (ie 'sin') would you be ok with ignoring that sin...pretending like it wasnt going on ?
I dont think Jesus would and I dont think WE should.
Certainly we take the gospel to the lost sinner, but that is quite different from giving them the impression that they dont need to CHANGE their lifestyles.

At a point we become an enabler when we fail to do what we're supposed to do...which is tell them to 'sin NO MORE'....

:)

How do we know that Rick Warren didn't speak to his hosts about sin? Does he elaborate about the dinner conversation? Or should we just assume that since Rick ate with the people, he openly condoned their lifestyle? When we make assumptions, we become like the Pharisees whose jaws probably dropped when they saw Jesus associating with sinners.

I think we are straying into a more homosexual debate and not a debate whether the teachings of Rick Warren are biblical. As I have stated I have read 'The purpose driven life'. I dont agree his teachings are biblical and I feel he mis-uses bible verses to serve his purpose. Please follow the following link and reach some articles on Rick Warrens book. http://www.biblebb.com/files/tonyqa/tc03-148.htm
Another reason why I feel Rick Warren teachings are not biblical is because he waters down Christianity. He came up with a PEACE initiative for Global peace it stands for this:
P - Plant Churches
E - Equip servant leaders
A - Assist the poor
C - Care for the sick
E - Educate the next generation

Other than the fact he has not added spread saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. He decided to change the plan to accomodate other religions so we find the P is replaced with Promote reconcilliation and the E just becomes Equip leaders. We are being led into a new world order and our own Christian leaders are taking us down the road to destruction. Please take time to view the following link aswell:http://www.crossroad.to/charts/millennium-goals-peace.htm
