"At our church, there are several with tatts, including several middle aged women"

Does it surprise you? "At our church, there are several middle aged women with tatts"

So many, many people have tattoos now....

PS: Ms Kathi: Reading again the words you used here, I think there has been a true explosion in the amount of people of both genders and all ages who are now doing it, and in the amount of new parlor businesses that have been set up in recent times.

Blessings.

... I like tats in general.

kiwidan:

Yes, it's good to make a difference between particular tattoos that we may or may not like, and the actual medium of tattoos in general, which has, after all, become so very widespread, including among Christians, hasn't it.

Blessings.

As long as i dont regret it, one i already have. I dont see the difference between wearing clothes with a label and a visable tattoo. Only thing is, the tattoo dont change.

kiwidan; Ms Kathi: The ear piercing thread is also active; and I think ultimately piercing and tattoos are two sides of the same coin. Although one does not always lead to another, often it does happen this way. Young people who get tattoos are often those who have already gotten some piercings.

Not all piercees become tattooees, though.

(Two cents'.)

Blessings.

Ms Kathi: From what we were talking about on the other thread, tattooing also has undergone some developments; while many tattoo artists are parlor-based, some are also mobile, and do home visits. (I do think the whole context of regularly inspected, hygienic practices does lend a powerful argument for parlor based inking, mind you.)

Blessings.

farouk,it wasn't for the fact that I respect the father of the lady that has turned into a lesbian and has tats, I would post the pics of her and the short hair. I also know her mom and it must grieve her.

Well said.

Personally, I don't quite understand why this is such a polarizing issue. I mean, yes, I get that different people have different opinions on a wide range of subjects. But it seems to me (granted, I could be completely wrong) that there is a far-spread belief that someone with tattoos can't possibly be a Christian - or that they're going about it the wrong way.

There's nothing in Scripture that says the individual steps we take along our personal journey with God has to be identical to everyone else's, or that the way we each spread the Gospel has to be identical. God made each and every one of us unique, He didn't make a batch of billions of clones.

Just my :twocents

I find Christians trying to look as much like the world as they can kinda sad.

I know that for some, that is the motivation. Their faith sets them apart from their friends/loved ones and they think, "If I do this (not necessarily tattoos, you can fill in the blank) then they'll accept me." I agree wholeheartedly that's a sad sight to behold.

I can't speak for anyone else, but that wasn't my motivation (not saying that's what you're insinuating, just to be clear). It was a simple process of, "I'd like to get a tattoo. What should I get? Oh, how 'bout a Bible verse? Which one? Well, what's your favorite? Whoa...well, if I had to pick just one I'd say Proverbs 24:10. Okay, so you're just gonna get "Proverbs 24:10"? Yeah, but I want it to look different. Well, the OT was written in Hebrew, ya know. Yeah, but I can't read Hebrew, and it's stupid to get a tat I can't read. What about a font that looks Hebrew, like it has that feel to it? Okay, let's check it out. Oh, cool. How 'bout this one? Awesome! Let's go!"

Okay, so maybe not that simple. And yes, that is the exact conversation I had with myself over a period of about two months. What tangled webs we weave... :shame

Hey i am old and some times it has its draw backs...:biggrin2

I see what Christian people accept entertainment i am saddened.... this could become a long list.... . We have left many Biblical principles in the dust our Bibles collect. The Scriptures dont say do not do XYZ never mind it says to not be part of the world .... We seem to fight for the liberty of the Spirit of the Word when it suits us .. Some times i see the attitude, we can do what ever we want we are under grace. Do i have in return enough Grace to serve Him, and not do my will ?
Nuff rambling from me....

im with reba, its legal , perfectly legal in my state to wear saggy pants. why not for me then? I used to act in similar manner in my days of sin. I listened to raps, used some ebonics. its all good. slap some gold in my grill, talk about jesus.

Maybe it's a question of balance? for Christians who have or wish to faith based witness tattoo designs, maybe the challenge is to respect the sensibilities of some of the older generation who might not be accustomed to it, and not flaunt it; while at the same time taking wide-open opportuntities for testimony using a contemporary and relevant — and effective in conversation-starting — means.

farouk i wonder if you took the time to count the number of mentions you have about piercings and tatts compared to scripture what the balance would be?

I was bugged when i signed in as Ruthy and got hit with tatts.... If that was my first time here i would have not been back...
this is the verse that comes to mind.
1Co 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

I will go away from your thread for a long while again.....:)

reba: Well I was under the impression that I had quoted a lot of Scripture...

And just above, for example, there was a run of several posts about tattoos, none of which were by me.

(Oh well... :) )

Blessings.

jasoncran:

Isn't it apples and oranges? because, unlike faith related ink such as Matthew G describes, baggy pants don't have a witness potential?

(Just wondering.)

Blessings.

its not illegal in my state to wear pants like that. if its not going to cause lust and the parts aren't showing then its just another fad or clothing like a bikini or also speedos. playing devil advocates, however. so you do think one could for a teen/ young adult group that has trucks like this? with audio?

I do,

I do,

jasoncran: Well, actually I didn't pull up the link, and in any case I was more concentrating on the tattoos aspect.

Of course, you're entitled to your thoughts on the pants, etc.

Blessings.

the link is for lowriding trucks. it has nothing to do with pants. but my point on that was that years ago bikinis were one piece, now they are two. why? so I submit given time, low hanging pants will be just as normal. therefore not a sin and we will see Christians doing it. what is wrong with bling, rapping and having gold teeth? one can rap about jesus. ride around in a slammed truck, while being yourself and as long as its clean, its all good.

I didn't realize that wearing ones pants like that was a sin.
