i know that, i was talking about that and the nature of some young women who get mad at men who take not of their beauty and stare. i have had one do that to me years ago. my wife saw a girl do that years ago and said to her. if you didn't like him looking at you then cover up. you don't have to look easy.

I know some US states even police how women wear their swimsuits. Whereas in Europe toplessness on beaches is commonplace (I don't advocate it...and maybe this is getting a bit off topic...)

Some people would strongly contend that, for example, a Christian fish sign <>< on a wrist is well within the bounds of modesty.

yes, florida does because its common for women to take off tops and also wear g strings which isn't allowed in some beaches. remember some beaches have families. I saw a girl push that limit last week. she was European.
 
I got a tattoo when I was 18. I was told the Bible verses about tattoos don't apply because it's in the OT. Now that I am older (32), I think it was a bad decision. I wish I could get rid of it.

Ms Seascape: I guess there is a wider, exegetical question about Old Testament and New; law and grace; the church and Israel, etc.; some of these themes are being discussed on another thread as well.

Yes, 18 is often the time when the first tattoo is obtained.

Many Christians instead of formally resisting this means of expression, embrace it instead and use it as a witness tool in faith based designs, such as a Bible ref., or Christian fish sign <><, etc.; whether or not one likes tattoos, they are at the very least proven conversation-starters.

Was yours in a faith based design? Some Christians who have designs they no longer appreciate have them changed; for example, a woman with an ex-bf's name 'Bill', tattooed, might choose to have the word 'Bill' changed to 'Bible', or whatever. Some tattoo artists can do remarkable things to existing designs.

As you'll know, while tattoos used formerly to be a male thing, yet for many years now women have attained complete tattoo equality.

My son was 18 when he got a tattoo of a Cross on his arm.It is very pretty.....I think.He hates it.He wished that he would never have done it.I tried to tell him back then that it is permanent so you need to be very sure about getting a tattoo.

Ms Kathi: For a Christian it's a lifetime commitment to using it as a witness tool. It IS a rite of passage at 18, but more than a rite of passage also when it's a Christian's faith based one.

I don't think their is anything wrong biblically about having a tattoo.

For some Christians, they feel it's a very beautiful and joyful way of engaging their skin with the inking needle for witness reasons.

Some designs are great artwork.

(It's not for everyone; and we must respect those Christians who prefer not to do it, too.)

Across my shoulders. Philippians 4:13 probably but not until late in the year when Thayanee's uncle comes back He's a tattooist part time and will do mine for free. I prefer Lek in Khorat who I mentioned before, an absolute genius with freehand fine line work, but he's expensive. Thought about a full back job but thought better of it. With young Eli and a very low wage here, there are more important things in life. What I have already is sufficient testimony to my faith and enough of a conversation starter. If people want more, they can read the Gospel in paper version after reading me and talking with me.
The pic below is NOT my next piece and while some will decry it as blasphemous, they need to look and THINK about the message it gives. As soon as I saw it i thought hmm...blasphemous yet true. Actually that was my second thought. My first thought was "A Tattoo that is mentioning piercings...Farouk was here!" :biggrin2

I seem to remember that some other ppl who have posted have used this verse for their tattoos also!

So it's your wife's uncle that will do it? maybe he did your wife's, too! I guess it can be a distinct advantage to some ppl if they have a tattoo artist in the family.

You are absolutely right about a faith based tattoo being a means to an end, that is, to getting people to dig into the Scriptures for themselves. A Bible verse or faith based design is ideally supposed to deflect the observer to the Scriptures and to faith in the Lord.

I think Oklahoma did at one stage. I seem to remember something about NYC, as well: it may have been about an official unwillingness to license parlors, or something like this.

The problem with this is I guess that if the artists keep positively wanting to be regulated and inspected, but the local authorities are hesitant, then some would argue that problems that sometimes arise are to some extent morally because of local authority inaction.

health codes do wonders. likely in the early years that would be enough. blood borne pathogens can be quite a detterent.
