False Teaching - Word of Faith

My difficulties with the "name it, claim it" crowd are two-fold:

1) if you don't get healed, it's because you didn't have enough faith
2) the prosperity/dominion doctrine is often spouted by teachers who prey on low-income, minorities, who are looking for a "get rich quick" way out of their problems

I had a friend, with Hodgkins disease, who was told by one such teacher that her lack of faith kept her from being healed from her cancer. This was a devastating indictment of a dear sister in the Lord (she later died from her advanced Hodgkins). I also can't help noticing the similarities between so-called prosperity teachers and a "wolf" whose purpose is to "fleece" the flock. Many of these teachers seem to me to be akin to those people on the infomercials selling their "6-step plan to wealth" - which apparently involves thousands of gullible people spending $50-100 for the plan as a means of adding to the wealth of the "teacher."

These actions are reprehensible in the extreme.

For a very good book with a similar theme, I recommend Frank Peretti's The Visitation.

Yup. It seems to me they ALL appear to come from the same MOLD. :-?

1) if you don't get healed, it's because you didn't have enough faith

They taught this at the AOG that I was going to a while back. I could write all night about the horror stories surrounding this false teaching. It's sad, very sad. I believe this teaching is one of the most damaging of all the false teachings.

Job

Through the Power of the Wolf Spirit, We Are One.

DO NOT JUDGE ME BECAUSE I BELIEVE I HAVE A TOTEM SPIRIT. I AM 100% CHRISTIAN TOO.

The Holy Spirit and totem spirits have nothing in common. If you are 100% Christian, then renounce shamanism, totem spirits, wolf spirits, or any other animistic beliefs. The Lord Jesus Christ and the Lord God Almighty are associated with only ONE SPIRIT -- God the Holy Spirit. Do not deceive yourself.

Actually, if you study the Bible on healing, you'll find that there are five reasons for sickness: Spirit of Infirmity (Luke 13:11); Sickness unto death (2 Kings 1:6); to glorify God (John 11:4); Attack of Satan (Job); and sin (Matthew 9:2). Unless you know which of these is the cause, it's not going to do you much good to get prayer.

It's true that you need faith, but to say someone didn't get healed because they lack faith is rather judgemental.

Is there a Biblical foundation for these spirits? I can think of plenty that would indicate that these are NOT something a Christian should be embracing. We are to be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). singular. I don't see any other scripture that tells us to be filled with any other spirit. You'll need to show me that one.

As for the 100% Christian thing, you either are, or you're not. You either accept Jesus as your Savior, or you reject Him. It's where you go from there that is open for discussion.

Well, at least there is something refreshingly straightforward about "prosperity preachers" - it's no secret they are in this to MAKE MONEY

I believe Word of Faith is disgracing His name with their witnessing. I have many Christians attending prostperity church in my neighborhood and they are the worst kind in their witnessing in over all. They don't know how to be kind to others. They use people instead of helping people etc.

Word Faith Disgrace, Disgusting, Shameful, Damaging !!

I agree that the Word Faith and Prosperity doctrines and teachers are a disgrace!! I have personally suffered much damage, as my children also have suffered terribly. My boys' mother is involved in a church that is supposedly Christian, but has many cult-like characteristics. She finally left us, becausae I would have nothing to do with her false church. Praise God that my boys are safe with me, and no longer subject to the false teachings of that Word Faith church.

I have also experienced the arrogant attitude from many in the Word Faith churches. God has blessed THEM SO MUCH!! God is SO GOOD TO THEM!!! God takes care of ALL THEIR NEEDS. God does this, and God does that for THEM. You just need FAITH brother/sister. Name your needs, wants, desires, and you WILL HAVE IT. Even if you don't see it now, name it and claim it. Even if you are still sick, don't admit that you are sick. Walk around like a fool, saying "I'm not sick." I'm sure many of you know exactly what I'm talking about. I've been there, done that. Doesn't work. Isn't real.

Don't get me wrong. God does heal. God can heal. But God doesn't heal everyone. I believe in miracles. Isn't the greatest miracle of all that God saved me, a sinner? God gave his only begotten son, to die on the cross, and shed his blood, and forgive my sins? Hallelujah, for the greatest miracle of all.

Another point, it seems a greater miracle to me, that God gives me the strength and grace, to continue on, each day, in this wicked world, striving to make a living, and raise my children by myself, against all odds, but somehow, God is still good, even though I've not driving a mercedes. My billfold isn't overflowing and bursting at the seems. I still have debts, bills, etc., but I STILL HAVE FAITH!! Glory to God in the highest.

When they prayed for me (the Word Faith people), and I wasn't healed, all of a sudden, it's all my fault that I was not healed! Either I didn't pray enough, or didn't say the correct prayers, or I wasn't reading the Bible (how would they even know?), or I wasn't reading the right version, or maybe I simply really didin't even believe in God, but just thought that I did.

I remember attending many Bible studies and prayer meetings at the Word Faith I used to attend, both in church and in people's homes, and watching the pastor take many scriptures out of context, especially whenever something bad would happen to someone. This one lady's apartment burned up, and the pastor said something like, "See, God is judging her," and then would pull scriptures out of his hat, and twist the verses to fit his false theology.

Where was the Christian love? Doesn't the Bible say that we are to bear one another burdens? We should help those who are in need, struggling, pray for them, take care of them .........

I've seen that happen many times, where Word Faith teachers take scriptures out of context, and show no love, and have no fruits, according to the Bible (the Bible lists a number of the fruits of the Spirit).

Many people I know personally have been damaged by this cultic church, that I used to be involved with. Slowly, strange doctrines creept in, prosperity teaching, and then the holy laughter craze hit the church! People were acting very strange, out of control. There was no glorifying of God in any of these hideous acts, which very well could have been demons, or the people just getting excited (overly excited).

I have seen the black preacher on tv, I believe his name is "Kenneth Price." Please correct me if I'm wrong. He used to be rather thin, and preached that handicap people are a disgrace to God!! Can you believe that? This guy pretending to be a preacher of God, and making fun of people with handicaps, saying that God can't use them, that they are like leaky toilets, and that if they can't see, then God can't see, and if their hands and feet don't work, then God can't use them, because God can't get around to use them if their bodies don't work right!!!

What a terrible disgrace to God, the Bible, Jesus, Christians, and church. It's no wonder so many people see something like that, and walk away from God, or Christianity.

There are many people who suffer variious handicaps, like Joni Eareckson Tada

http://www.joniandfriends.org/

who have been a blessing to others, and who God CAN and DOES use!! Praise God for people who have the inner strength, spiritual strength, and awesome faith, to still believe and trust in God, no matter what their handicap is.

I wonder how this prosperity doctrine goes over in other countries?

I have always thought that it takes more faith, and real faith, to believe in God when hardships strike. It seems too easy to believe in a nice, loving, fun, happy, prosperity, rich, etc. gospel.

What about the examples in the Bible that tell us plainly that we will suffer? We will be persecuted, pute to death ....? Those who say that we don't need to pray according to God's will are simply mocking God. That's not very healthy, to be making fun of God, ordering God around, telling God what he can do, should do, and MUST do!!

What about Joyce Myers saying, "Speak to your billfold, you fat billfold, you are so full of money ..." I remember seeing her say that, and thinking, what a joke!! What a farse!!! What a FALSE teacher!!!

I could write a book on this subject, but I'm busy writing several books on my family history. Hank Hanegaraff has written in depth about the subject concerning the teachings of the Word Faith doctrines.

Praise God for brother Hank!! I have listened to him for years, and by listening to him, and reading the Bible, I was able to discern the truth of God's word, from the lies of the Word Faith teachings, and get myself out of that heretical church.

I'm still working on trying to reteach my children now, as they were also subjected to the false teachings of the Word Faith church we attended for many years. Just think of how many people's lives have been destroyed!!

My friends in Oregon went to jail, because they were also following the Word Faith teachings. They believed that they only need to pray for people to get healed. No medicine. No doctors. When their little boy, about five years old, became ill one evening, they simply prayed, believing that God would heal him. Well, God didn't heal him, and he died that night.

My friend's son had appendicitis, and could have been saved by a simple opperation, if they had only taken him to the hospital. I know an elderly man who had his hopes lifted so high at the Word Faith church I had attended, and even thought that he was healed. Well, as it turns out, he was never healed. The people made him so excited, and forcefully took his cane away, and told him that he didn't need it. As far as I know, he still walks with the cain, and is having increasing difficulty getting around. I believe it's called, "OLD AGE!!" You can have all the faith you want, but all of us will get old, and slow down, teeth will fall out, hair will fall out, eyes will grow dim, and we will die!! Even the Word Faith teachers cannot avoid the ailments of old age!!!

vja4Him, thank you for your testimony.

I attended two tongue speaking churches( they are also prosperity churches) when I was a new Christian. I witnessed so many bad practices that I would not get into because there are so many.

It's too bad that fellow Christians try so hard to keep peoples' mouth shut by saying it's gossiping.

The Bible tells us to expose evil deed. We should not cooperate with the Satan by keeping our mouth for evil deed..

Thanks for your encouragement Joy and Vic. I remember when I tried to share, in love and kindness respectfully, what I had learned concerning the problems with the Word Faith teachings and practices that the pastor in the church I left was teaching.

I did some of my own research, and typed up several pages, and tried to share the truth with the pastor and the leaders. The pastor actually refused to even look at the research that I had done. He wouldn't even discuss it at all!!! Can you believe that? He told me that he only needs the Bible, and doesn't need to listen to anyone else!!!

I guess that he is afraid of God's word when used correctly! I met with at least four pastors from different churches to discuss the problems with the Word Faith teachings, and they all agreed with me, and acknowledged that the Word Faith teachings are not good. Unfortunately, at least two of them chose to remain silent on the issues! Even though they knew that the teachings were wrong and misleading many.

The elders of the church did the same thing. They were basically afraid to stand up on their own, or against the pastor. They also refused to even look at the research that I had done, and copied off a set for each of them. One of them even mailed the packet back to me!

One of the elders even told me that it's better for me to keep my mouth shut, for fear that I might be blaspheming the Holy Spirit!! I've heard that trick before, to try and get people to not say anything about the Word Faith teachings (and the holy laughter craze).

Somewhere in the New Testament, I believe that Paul was saying something about another teacher, and warning people about them. I was not the only person who tried to set the pastor of the Word Faith church straight. Several other people went to the pastor and spoke with him and his wife. He rebuked them both, and became very angry. His wife was yelling at them, which she likes to do (the yelling part). I thank God that many people did get out of that church, and some of them are still serving God in other churches. Some have left the church completely.

Then my wife (now x-wife) and several people in the church told me to just forget about the whole thing, and continue attending their church (Word Faith) and sit in the back, and sit quietly, and don't say or do anything! How absurd!! They still wanted me to continue going to their church, even after I tried to expose their false teachings!! I had no choice but to write my resignation.

That was a difficult decision to make, to leave the church I had been in for a little more than seven years, teaching the children, even the pastor's children (who have also turned against me, all except one of them) and playing music, and leaving many friends behind, who have pretty much written me off as a heretic and an infidel.

Again, one of my favorite Bible verses keeps coming to mind, one that I learned when I was a new Christian, leaving behind many friends (almost all), who mocked me, and tried to get me to party with them, as we had done for many years --

Isaiah 26:3 -- Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee.

Funny how WOF preachers encourage you to believe that all you have to do is give 'them' money and God will bless 'you'. Why don't they simply practice what they preach if there's anything other than money involved with what they teach?

In other words, they just sit back and collect all that you will give and then teach you that yours will come from God's blessings. If what they teach is true, then why don't they just give of their own so that theirs will come from God's blessing?

False teaching, and false apostles teaching it. Each and everyone of these 'teachers' of WOF teaches also that they are 'apostles.

And let me point out guys and gals: there are tons of people following these. There are those that will argue in favor of this heresy and insist that 'just because' is their reason for following. Not much different that the answers given by MOST followers of men instead of God.

From my perspective, it's not much different than listening to those that defend 'trinity' or my 'need' to gather. Just another prime example of the deception of those that choose to worship themselves rather than the Father through Christ.

vja4Him, I have been doing the same thing trying to get people's attention. I cannot get even one person to cooperate with me. They treat me like some kind of idiot.

Those prosperity(tongue speaking) churches are worst kind regarding witnessing but I know for the fact that many denominations have some tning to hide. I believe that's the main reason why they don't cooperate or expose the evil deeds. Most of the churches are in the same boat.

God bless you for your courage to do the right thing.

Unfortunately we don't have many Christians like you.

God, forgive our cowardness and give us power to be faithful to you.

We just have to be faithful to Him, who is always faithful. Don't give up the good fight for the faith!!

Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:37 - In all things, we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

1 Timothy 6:12 - Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
