Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man
26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes,[a] which is across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.
34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, 35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had been cured. 37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.

Not in my area. Pretty much all that's available are shelters that are overcrowded, not very nice, and they separate couples. I didn't stay in a shelter because I wasn't about to give up my cats. It was bad enough I had to rehome my dogs. Most people, especially certain Christians immediately look down their nose at you as if you have some spiritual defect that is the reason you're homeless. You hear things like "get a job" and things that are even ruder. For those with mental illnesses, there is no help. For those with physical illnesses, there is no help. People die on the streets every day and nobody cares.
As someone who deals with mental illness, it's almost a miracle that I am able to access help and get the medications that keep me stable. I also thank God that my husband is a veteran and is able to get the medications that keep him alive without cost. We're the lucky ones. We managed to claw ourselves out of that situation, and now live in a kinda crummy and cheap apartment in a horrible neighborhood. I have a college education and still have a hard time finding a job. I got turned down for grocery cashier and working at an auto parts place. We survive on about 20,000 a year. We don't qualify for any social programs (SNAP or Medicaid). I have no medical insurance so I spend a lot of time praying I don't get sick or hurt. We manage to keep our cars running, thanks to friends who will do repairs for the price of parts and beer. I have to start trying to save now to pay the registration fees for my car that will be due in November...about 100 dollars.
Being poor in the US is horrible.

I've thankfully never been homeless. However...
I've been poor and stigmatized in the US. God ended up making good of it for me, so I'm thankful, but...
impoverished "mental patients" have horrible lives, let's put it that way. And the shrinks were a big part of the problem, at least in my case. I was/am also HIV+ in The Bible Belt ("1,000 miles wide, 1 inch deep"), which has proven to actually be dangerous, at times.
Anyway....the US society has pretty much gone to hell in a hand basket. I'll soon be 34. I can remember when 9/11 happened, and all of a sudden...bam. Unending war, no matter what party controls the congress, no matter who is in the white house. More deregulation, more "trickle down" economics, more jails+prisons, more poverty, more wealth+power concentrated at the top, even the very, very top.
I'm not Marxist, but I don't think capitalism is going to work out well, especially in the US. In other places, they've managed to build (and maintain...) social programs, safety net, etc., to take the edge off, some places more successfully than others, but...
man oh man. I have a friendly acquaintance who got married and moved to the UK. She's a white collar professional, so is her husband. They have a small child. She's forever complaining about how expensive everything is in the UK, but she's also fully aware of how much more -humane- UK culture is, compared to what's going on in the US. I had another friendly acquaintance from The Netherlands, and he's straight up horrified by American culture. Such widespread, unnecessary poverty, misery, pain, suffering...no relief in sight, just more punishment, more pain, more stigma, more labels, etc.
I'd love to think+hope that progressives will win victory in the US, but...I don't know, honestly. It looks to me like the ruthless elites who actually run America really want everyone to work (for low wages), buy stuff, and die. Oh, and enlist their kids in the 1%-ers endless wars. That, too.
Not that I can complain all that much, personally. As "mental patients" go, in particular, I live like a king. My parents came on the tail end of the baby boom generation, so they got to be upwardly mobile. They're now "genteel" (for around here...), "well-to-do," etc. I'm happy for them, of course. I'm probably never going to be "employ-able," especially in The New Economy, in which scraping by is the new normal, anyway. But...because my parents are more on the genteel end of things, I get to receive disability for "severe mental illness," live with them, and...just...live, basically. Nothing spectacular, nothing in your face flashy, just...a simple, quiet life. And I"m thankful, I really am....
and I've rambled, LOL. I just think maybe capitalism has run its course, maybe we should try something else, something more humane, something the 99% can actually live with, maybe even enjoy now and then. I'm not a socialist, I guess I'm just..."post-capitalist," I suppose. I love Jesus, not the free market.

People always here jobs jobs jobs, but its only jobs jobs jobs working for big corporations on wage to pay the bills each week, not less restrictions and more opportunity for individuals to be sole traders and prosper like the owners of big companys and corporate CEOs and Directors.
Thats why there is a small % with mega billions while millions are just paying the bills.

i don't know how it is where you live, but here in the US...stable, good jobs are scarce. Even the well-educated are looking at a life of diminished expectations and little, if any, upward mobility. the common sense thing to do would be to regulate big business a bit, build more of a safety net, and basically...face the reality with quality programs to make life and society better, more humane. In the US, at least, what we're getting is...
more tax cuts for the rich and super-rich, more punishment for the poor and working classes, further destruction of what remains of the middle-middle class, and more and more social disintegration. it used to be that towns and cities had parks and recreation places, auditoriums, etc. now, most of those are named after giant corporations, because the cities don't have the funds they used to, largely because of neoliberal policies. its...not good, not good at all.
as for me...i doubt ill ever be able to have a job. im labeled as "severely mentally ill" no matter what i do, no matter where i go. its basically being part of the under-class..."mental patient," etc. at least w/ disability, I can live w/ my "genteel" parents and do as I please (within reason) with each new day, no insults at work, no random firings, no major struggles in a cold, unforgiving, brutal world. ideal? i guess not, but...it is what it is.

Many homeless people that you see do get a government check and spend it on drugs. One day I heard one telling another one how to fake mental illness to get a monthly government check. This was in a liquor store about a decade ago when I still drank alcohol. Two young able bodied guys in line behind me discussing this. I forget nothing. Just like about 20 years ago at a Food 4 Less when an undocumented family in front of me in line had $200 in groceries. Paid in food stamps. The checker told them that $20 of the bill wasn't covered. That's when the dad pulled a roll of money larger than my fist, about $1,000, pulled out a $20 to pay the rest of the bill. I couldn't afford to have children mind you and now it's long past my wife's time to be able to do so.

I wouldn't call rain that I have been getting and even under the bridges any shelter. martin county has had in one day 4 inches of rain. try staying under a bridge when its coming that hard. you may be out of it but you wont be dry because you had to get wet to get there. must cross the bridge to go to the only side to get under it and or on the east side of it travel a ways to get to the path that leads to it in the woods.

Unless it's ravaged by a tornado,thunderstorm.during irma a few were moved in to the river from roads no to close.you can't always drive all campers or tow them.these here must have a utility connection,and lot rent isn't free.500 a month ,not counting utilities

Not easily done in my state,my daughter wants to do that .a traiker? Rvs,pre dabbed all cost over 100k new,used isNT cheap.you must ask permission to get wells dug,and septics are on the way out, pollution of the lagoon ,ocean is a problem.if it's grandfathered in they allow it but not in florida.a bank will want insurance .
Florida is rough on the non rich. You can buy a home for less than that in many states.

Not so,50 grand?with property and utilities in place or readily.land is cheap ,but the house is what is high.hurricane codes.I know north Carolina is cheaper but the septic code is changing for them too.
