Homosexuality and Obesity?

StoveBolts said:
I beg you not to distort the purpose behind the law

Alright StoveBolts tell us why the law was introduced?

And while doing so include Romans 5:20

The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more.

The statement has been made here that we are to stand against sin.

I put it to you that not one of us is in a position that we will not sin. I put it to you that none of us will be in a position where we will not sin for as long as we live on this earth.

I put it to you that we will need to continue to ask for forgiveness from sin until the day we die.

I put it to you that Jesus dealt with sin at the cross so that we might have life in him.
Hebrews 7:27 NIV.
Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

Hebrews 10:10 NIV .
And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

I put it to you that Jesus made this sacrifice for us long before any of us were able to sin. So that we might be made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ.

I put it to you that he has done away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.

Hebrews 9:26 NIV.
Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.

So I ask you (as a chid of his) what are you doing attempting to stand against sin when he has done away with sin?

I ask you why you have not simply accepted that and are willing trust him with it.

I put it to you that if you are unwilling to do that you are calling him a lier.

Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

Ephesians 4:26-28 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

Ephesians 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

Acts 8:22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Acts 26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

2 Corinthians 7:8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

We are not to continue in sin but repent...and turn to God.

Why should I obey the law?
Romans 3:20.
Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law;

Tell me why I should not seek to be justified as follows?

Romans 3:28
For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.

Why would I believe you and miss out on the promise?

Romans 4:14.
For if those who live by law are heirs, faith has no value and the promise is worthless,

The only condition where sin is not taken into account is where there is no law.

Romans 5:13.
for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law

Romans 4:15.
because law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.

Why would I want to believe you and suffer that rath?

Romans 7:4
So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.

Hey It looks like we can't bear fruit for God by observing the law. So again why should I believe you?

Romans 7:5
For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, [ Or the flesh; also in verse 25] the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death.

So why should I believe you and bear fruit for death? No thank you.

Romans 7:6
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

Tell me why would I not want to be released from the law that binds us.?

Romans 7:23
but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.

So why would I want to believe you and be a prisoner?

Romans 8:2
because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Why would I not want to free from the law of sin and death?

Romans 10:4
Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Praise God I like that. See I don't need to believe you.

1 Corinthians 15:56
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

Why should I believe you and try and obey the law which is the power of sin. (I think not.)

I need to die to the law as opposed to believing you.

Galatians 2:19
For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God.

Galatians 3:2
I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard?

Romans 6:14
For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

Don't believe me... believe the scripures. I believe every scripture you posted.

I just don't want to be guilty of perverting Grace.

Jude 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lacivousness

1) unbridled lust, excess, licentiousness, lasciviousness, wantonness, outrageousness, shamelessness, insolence

Sin is not a good thing...

Grace is not license to get away with sin...

Amen, Robert!

Without love it would mean nothing. Love rejoices in truth. What is the truth that sets us free? The Gospel, all of it. Love also hates iniquity. Thankyou for your example of a true Biblical love, Robert. 8-)

Wow... Lots going on in this thread. Hey Robert, thanks for all your fantastic posts. It makes it much easier for me to make my next comment.

Windozer,
I'm not really sure where to start. So again, I'll thank Robert for supplying scripture and his commentary.

Besides what has already been written on this thread, I seek to view the purpose of the law not the law in itself for in itself, the purpose is the law rather than the law being the purpose... If you start in Genesis and read the story at least to Jeremiah. This, I believe is the greater portion that encompasses the context of the law but it certainly doesn't capture the entirety of the context for the context is a promise of God's glory and God's justice. I won't get into this tit for tat of posting scripture after scripture concerning the law because when one does, the context shrinks and the essence of Christ is lost.

You see, it's real easy to micro view the law, but when you do, it's purpose and intent is missed. The way I currently understand it, some laws were bound to it's day such as putting others to death so that Israel would be purged of unrighteousness. Other laws were put in place (such as the drinking of blood) as a symbol of life that we might understand what gives life to a body or nourishes a body (such as boiling a young lamb in it's mothers milk). Some laws were put into effect to create respect (not sleeping with your dad's wife or your mothers daughter). Some were both symbolic as well as a health hazard such as the eating of pork. Some were to ensure that people were treated fair (if you sold yourself into slavery, there was a manner in which you should be treated) Regardless of what rule or law, it's purpose was to benefit the Israelites either spiritually or physically. I believe Moses said it best in I think Deut 2 or 3 where he said something like, "Keep the laws and decree's of God so that the nations will see how wise you are and how God is among you". So you see, the Laws of the Lord were for other nations and how Israel was viewed as well.

Anyway, enough yak from me cause I don't really wish to argue with you. I hope that God will bless you and give you patience, wisdom and a fuller, richer life through His Son.

Grace is not license to get away with sin...
Hey I don't need a licence to sin, I do quite alright doing that without a license. Is it any different for you?

1 John 1:8
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

I also believe every scripture you posted I just don't agree with your take on some of it.

Romans 4:8
Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him." [ Psalm 32:1,2]

How about that? Praise God for making that possible. And it has nothing to do with willfully sinning. And everything to do with trusting him.

Romans 8:13
For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,

Hey it appears as though we need to rely on the spirit to take care of the misdeeds of the body. As opposed to worrying about a license.

I think that entails trusting Jesus?

Galatians 3:22
But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.

I think not Dave....

John 8:32
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John 8:36
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

I'm not seeing the contradiction. Maybe you could elaberate.

There is no grace or mercy during the time a person is living IN the practice of sin. Grace and Mercy only happen when you have STOPPED the sinning. THEN, is when the Grace and Mercy have room to commence in the life of a person. It is the the one who gives his will over to the HOLY. It is not for the one who live IN the act of sin.

Well Relic according to scripture that is a lie.. which is a sin... What are you going to do about it?

Romans 5:20 NIV Read this Chapter
The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,

Which one would you suggest I believe?

The apostle Paul had a thorn in his flesh that he wanted removed. It was a messenger from Satin (which is a sin) But God said My grace is sufficient for you. And did not remove it.

The Homosexuals and many Christians share the same problem. They want to be free from sin. Why is that?

The homosexual tries to accomplish that by claiming that it is not a sin. While some Christians attempt to Claim it is possible to have no sin in them. Yet they have not seen a single person who has achieved that.

Very interesting!!!!

2 Peter 2:1-10 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

Grace is not an excuse to sin...

False teachers will teach that we can sin and that is okay but we have God's word to go by not the lies their father taught them.

Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Is this hard to understand?

1 Corinthians 5:1-6 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

Repent of sin and "don't obey it in it's lusts thereof".

Luke 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Now theres a sin thats probably far and above all others because it leads people away from God and straight to Hell. Most people aren't false teachers because of ignorance, but because they don't like Gods word. At least thats my observation.

Grace is not an excuse to sin...

Hey I thought we covered that. Do you need an excuse to sin? I suspect that you like I have quite enough sin on our plates without needing an excuse to add anymore.

Grace is not a method to make excuses for sin for ourselves or others.

Sin is something we are not supposed to do.

Saying we "all sin so what's the problem we are all covered by grace anyway?" is a half truth from Satan or from the minds of twisted apostates.

1 Corinthians 15:33-34 Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

But you ARE a sinner, BB. Don't you understand that you're a pot calling the kettle black? Who has given you the authority to be waving your finger around at others? As one sinner to another ...Please, cut it out!

But if you are the sinner you claim you are, using your own logic you can't tell me to "cut it out" can you Mr. Pot?

But thanks for caring... :D

Sin is still sin and I can still say so...

Sputnikboy,

Are you even a Christian?

Are you a bible believer?

Do you put the word of God above the philosophy of man?

You don't have to answer and I won't badger you to do so.

I am only curious.

Thanks,

Robert
