The Ephesians verse in it's original context and language was referring to being an alcoholic, not just to being drunk. Even though getting drunk is never recommended, there was still a difference.Yes it is a sin to be "drunk" Isaiah 29:9-14; Ephesians 5:15-18
How could any of us know since the scripture never speaks of the Holy Spirit inhabiting things such as a bottle of wine? How comfortable is the Holy Spirit in a drunken vessel?
What aboutYes it is a sin to be "drunk" Isaiah 29:9-14; Ephesians 5:15-18
Yes WIP. And my position on this is complex, requires a lot of study off both the scriptures and customs coupled with, "What did they know and when did they know it." Things that God knows. There is, of course, only one unforgivable sin that condemns a man but many folks know and have known that make the number two sin Homosexuality and the scale slides from there.
Growing up, dad wholesaled Cigars, Cigarettes, Pipe Tobacco, Snuff and Chewing Tobacco and there is no way I was sinning until I understood that I was pouring smoky poison into my body. At that point I stopped dipping, chewing, cigars and tossed my pipes. It took three more years for me to end the struggle with the cigs and although I come down on no one for smoking, god had convicted me that I was found in sin because of the damage I was, intentionally inflicting on the temple of God.
As I said, complex until I fully surrendered to God.
I have smoked marijuana and hash in my youth and I have had my share of alcohol. I do know that it takes very little smoke from pot to significantly alter my perception of the world around me. In fact, I have smoked some that had significant impact with just one draw. I tried cigarettes for a short time but found I didn't like it and in the process learned that I did not experience a "high" from them even after smoking a few back to back. Only a headache and horrid taste in my mouth and certainly nothing that would impair my perception of reality. And what specifically is your stance? Bad or good?
See 1 Timothy 5:23Paul didn't promote alcohol.
Also look at 1 Timothy chapter 3 where Paul talks about how bishops and deacons are to act as they "take care of the church of God." KJV When I read "take care of the church of God" I read lead the church by example.WIP said:What aboutKathi said:Yes it is a sin to be "drunk" Isaiah 29:9-14; Ephesians 5:15-18
Isaiah 28?
1 Corinthians 6 around verse 9.
And that is not probably talking about drunkenness. It talks about satisfaction, I presume
Ok, this is what I believe Classik is saying:
"Whether you smoke a little or a lot, cigarettes are still dangerous."
"Whether you fornicate a little or a lot, fornication is still fornication."
Okay, so you mean since it doesn't make a difference I might just as well do it right and smoke or fornicate a lot? Sheesh too bad I gave up smoking.

That is an easy one because God set a clear president in the scriptures. Not only with the Tower of Bable but it is clearest there, God never wanted us to live in the hovels that cities create where people grow closer and closer t one another and conspire with one another to do evil. Many will scream that leaving the city is easier said than done but that is because they have not fully surrendered their lives to God, not even yet to the point of real trust. I know one other family that can but does not save for the future but instead, fully relying on God, spends their vacation time and money to travel to Africa to evangelize.Bill, what would you say to people living in a city where the air quality is comparable to smoking a pack of ciggs. per day? Should they move?
What would you say to people who take prescription drugs for a nervous condition compared to someone what smokes to relieve nerves?
Are you not a vessel? Who is speaking of bottles?
Love it Gary!If drinking is truly a sin, do you really believe the Holy Spirit would inhabit something sinful?
You know the answer.
