Infant Baptism.

Old things have passed away, all things have become new! 2 Cor.5: 17 Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.
Correct. That speaks of the individual after their regeneration from sinner into saint. Or, sinner into one redeemed in Christ.

Then what is the purpose of baptism?

The "purpose of baptism" depends on which baptism one asks. If water baptism the application would be Acts 2:38; 22:16 and Gal.3:26 to the close of the chapter. There are other passages but these should suffice.

Right depends on what baptism. But water baptism is for the repenant for sin. Now Jews knew that they were sinning because they were to follow the Law . But what do gentiles who do not have the Law, have to repent from? They are told to repent, but they really don't know what they are repenting of,or for?.

How come none of these verses mention water (or infants) if it was water baptism?

As for the OP, however:

So those who accepted his message were baptized, and on that day about three thousand souls were added.

Anybody want to argue these 3,000 were 'water' baptized, then after, accepted his message?
Umm, it was those who accepted his message that were baptized.

BTW, the message they heard says nothing about water either (but it does mention the pouring out of the Holy Spirit (now that's baptism at it's finest). And properly/Biblically ordered by first accepting the message:

This Jesus God raised up, of which we all are witnesses. Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of God and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he has poured out this that you see and hear.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Acts 2:32-33&version=LEB

So Ananias departed and entered into the house, and placing his hands on him, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes and he regained his sight and got up and was baptized, and after taking food, he regained his strength. And he was with the disciples in Damascus several days.

Paul regained his sight and was "baptized" (filled with the Holy Spirit).
Again, no mention of water (or infants).

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Galatians 3:26-27&version=LEB

Again, no mention of water (only faith in Christ).

How come Acts2:38; 22:16 and Gal.3:26, 27 doesn't mention Holy Spirit baptism? If you wish to study those verses (and others) you know where you can find me.

[1] Difference in " Believing " vs " Knowing "... I can believe that if I flip a light switch a light will come on or off. Knowing is when I actually flip the switch...
In the OT Israel knew Gods reality, had prayers answered, heard from Him through the Prophets, but they never Knew God. And from the very beginnings that is all He ever wanted, that through dealing with them they would come to really KNOW Him.
In spiritual matters there really is no difference between believing and knowing.
If I believe in God
I know God.

If you believe the switch will turn on the light
you also know the switch will turn on the light.

Some knew God even in the OT. Just like today.
Not everyone that cries "Lord, Lord" knows God, or will be known by Him.
Mathew 7:22-23

We have the advantage of knowing God better, believing in Him, because Jesus made us know Him better than anyone in the O.T. It was our "last chance".
God, in person, made us know about Himself.

Right! We that are born of God, are right with God, through Christ. " we are the righteousness of God, In Christ Jesus!
Right again. Born brand new creations, IN CHRIST!
When we do things that are not from the new nature, unrighteousness prevail. And all unrighteousness is sin!

The very Spirit of Christ is IN US through the receiving of His Spirit. Spirit baptism. " Greater is He who dwells in me, than he who is in the world!" " It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me!"
Good on the above.
But you didn't answer my question which seems important to me.

If we no longer have the sin nature, which is what you stated,
then what is it that makes us sin??

Dear Wondering, if you would read 1 John through, you would see what it is we should know about being IN CHRIST.
Once of these days I'll read through 1 John. Maybe even 2 and 3...who knows?

In the meantime, what do you think being In Christ means?

We're not here to tell each other what to read....
but to talk.

I believe "being in Christ" means having been transformed by Christ, and being in the community of Christian brothers and sisters. Infant baptism (baptism by water) recognizes a child being welcomed into the community of Christ. Holy baptism by the Spirit is God's grace upon our acceptance of Christ as our Savior, by being reborn.

No you don't KNOW until you flip the switch. There could be short in the wiring , or the power has gone off. The thing is you won't know until you move to flip that switch.
And the Old testament if full of Gods cries that Israel never came to KNOW Him... Same as today. It is the Spirit that reveal Christ to a person.
1Cor.2: 12 But we received, not the spirit of the [1] world, but the spirit which is from God; that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God.*n9
13 Which things also we speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Spirit teacheth; [1] combining spiritual things with spiritual words .*n10
14 Now the [1] natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually [2] judged.*n11
15 But he that is spiritual [1] judgeth all things, and he himself is [2] judged of no man.*n12
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Here is just a taste of ....
1 John.1:
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Chapter 2
1 My little children, these things write I unto you that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an [1] Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

C
an you say that you Know Him as your Advocate, The One who cleanses from all unrighteousness?

It wouldn't be agreement with them would it? Rather it would be in agreement with what scripture states. Belief precedes baptism.
Can you provide the Scripture reference where it is clearly stated that belief precedes baptism?

Choice.
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted [1] of God; for God [2] cannot be tempted with [3] evil, and he himself tempteth no man:*n6
14 but each man is [1] tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.*n7
15 Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.
16 Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.

To talk about............what we have come to believe of what we've read.

If you believe the switch will turn on the light
you also know the switch will turn on the light.
I'm not so sure about this. If the fuse is blown or a wire disconnected or the switch is connected to a different light, you may believe the switch will turn on a particular light but reality may be somewhat different.

Believing in God and actually knowing God I believe are not the same thing. I believe this is in part what Jesus speaks of as recorded in Matthew 7.
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:21-23 NKJV

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you [1] in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not [2] worthy to bear: he shall baptize you [1] in the Holy Spirit and in fire:*n4

One thing I've learned to appreciate about you. We've all had a journey and should respect that in others. And we should demand the same back. I've read I John but still want to know what others think and then also to say what I think.

I often (think out loud) meaning I can't process through an idea well unless I say it out loud. Then, hearing the thoughts of others, I can process the idea deeper, or see a flaw in my thinking, or just remain confused.

I love the question of what it means to be in Christ. It's simple but complex. Simple because being in Christ is to follow him - his lead, his examples for life. Complex because it runs much deeper than that. Now I'll be thinking about this all day.

One thing for sure is the reason we are In Christ, and He in us, is for the mandate of the Lord to take place in us.

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ:
13 till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a fullgrown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 that we may be no longer children,
Collosians 1:Christ in you, the hope of glory:
28 whom we proclaim, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ;
29 whereunto I labor also, striving according to his working, which worketh in me [1] mightily.

We are Gods hope, in that His Glory may be seen through us who are in Christ.
