Isaiah 66:23

Ga 4:21 ¶ Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free

How does this address the Sabbath in the Kingdom of God?
Where do you think the commandment to keep the sabbath comes from? The OLD Covenant, that keeps those under the law in bondage.

I would like for this thread to focus solely on Isaiah 66:23.
Because he rose Saturday at sunset. Apply Jesus rule - three days and three night. See where in the week this amount of time can fit. Note that you must begin the count of that amount of time at his burial. All the best.
All the best to you as well.

I think you had a good idea in this OP to stay strictly on topic (Is 66's teaching on the Sabbath) and look to the Scripture for how that one particular message relates to 7th Day Sabbath in 2013 without tackling to broad of an issue or getting away from the Scripture's message to much. I only mentioned Jesus' rising as a potential answer to what I thought was a good question concerning Is 66, not to debate it per sa here.

From Isaiah 66's message: I would ask you what day of the week will the Sabbath be held on in the New Earth? My Answer = everyday.
What do you think?

God's answer = the seventh day...

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Exo 31:15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

Which day did God set apart (sanctify) and make holy? The seventh day. You may choose whichever day you wish, but God has chosen, sanctified and hallowed the seventh day.

Yes its a pretty sure way of holding folks in bondage to the OLD Covenant, limit the discussion and the fulfillment in the NEW.:confused

Two points;

1) If you call the Sabbath bondage, you have never kept it.

2) Show me the fulfillment of the Sabbath in the New Covenant. Show me the Millenium in existence today. Show me the 7th day (1000 years - II Pet 3:8) with Christ as King of Kings, the Twelve Apostles ruling the twelve tribes of Israel and those of the first resurrection ruling over nations on the earth today. I can show you one simple scripture that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Millenium has not begun...

Isa 2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

nation:

H1471
גּי גּוי
gôy gôy
go'ee, go'-ee
Apparently from the same root as H1465 (in the sense of massing); a foreign nation; hence a Gentile; also (figuratively) a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts: - Gentile, heathen, nation, people.

Basher al Assad and Ahmadinijad are two gentiles who prove, beyond an shadow of a doubt, that Christ has not caused the gentile nations to renounce war.

So, before sin entered the world, God put Adam and Eve in bondage...

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

Verse 11 shows that God specially created the Sabbath on the seventh day of creation week. It also shows He set it apart by blessing it and making it holy. Now this occured around 2500 years before the Old Covenant. Hmmm, me thinks there is a slight lack of scholarship in your statement.

Amen! And God does not change! Nor does Christ that is always is the SAME! So who did the devils [work!] (see Dan. 7:25)

Dan. 7:25
[25] And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

And as Daniel says, it will be a NO brainer finding these ones [not] going along with the Mark of the Beast? For again Christ says.. (Matt. 6:24)

[24] No man can serve [[ two]] masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

But I have heard enough of this Jehovah Witness stuff!

An intersting concept indeed! It is the JW's who teach that everyday is the day of rest, the Sabbath. They claim to keep it everyday? One has to wonder, when do they work?

This has been taught in the Reformed Church, from its beginnings. And the first day of the week has been the day of worship from the very beginning of the church itself, in that the Day the Lord was raised we who believe have been raised with Him and have entered into the true Sabbath - the Rest of God.

Mt 28:1 ¶ In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
Mr 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
Mr 16:9 ¶ Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Lu 24:1 ¶ Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Joh 20:1 ¶ The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Joh 20:19 ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Ac 20:7 ¶ And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
1Co 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

Even by Abraham's standards, Genesis 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Are any of the verses you quoted commandments, statutes or laws?

Abraham being the father of all the faithful and yet he demonstrated his faith in God by obeying his voice, and kept his charge, his commandments, his statutes, and his laws.

Just because the Sabbath will be kept doesn't necessitate that the entire Law would be kept.

Let me expand on this thought ...

Surely we will only serve God and not murder anyone in the Kingdom ... yes/no?

But there will be some laws that are obsolete - Jesus said we will not be marrying, hence no adultery or honor father and mother. We will all be brethren of one another.

Ro 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Do you think Abraham was under the law of moses?:(

Just because the Sabbath will be kept doesn't necessitate that the entire Law would be kept.
Right one must keep all the law to be justified by the law.

Ro 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

I've seen this verse brought up a few times in a Sabbath day discussion.

I would like for this thread to focus solely on Isaiah 66:23.

“For as the new heavens and the new earth
Which I will make shall remain before Me,” says the Lord,
“So shall your descendants and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass
That from one New Moon to another,
And from one Sabbath to another,
All flesh shall come to worship before Me,” says the Lord.

It is quite evident that the scripture itself is speaking of the New Heaven and New Earth.

I am definitely looking forward to the ingenuity on the workaround of that scripture.

So, will you be keeping the Sabbath when you inherit the New Earth?

Just to be clear, I do not expect the usual suspects to cave in to this one. I just want to see how you spin around it.

The reason I don't see it as a literal Sabbath or New Moon celebration is because there is no sun or moon in the new heaven and new earth to mark off the demarcation of time in regard to those things. There's not even a temple to offer up the sacrifices commanded by the law on the Sabbath.

"22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there." (Revelation 21: NIV)

No sun or moon, no night, only day...makes it kind of hard to follow a literal Mosaic schedule of worship and gives weight to the figurative, continual celebrations of those things, and in regard to the reality the Mosaic symbols only pointed to--Christ--and not in regard to the symbols.

Love fulfills all the law.

"...and if there be any other commandment..." vs.9

Faith in Christ, expressed in love, fulfills all of the law. Faith is the new way to keep the requirements of God.

"...we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code." (Romans 7:6 NIV)

But a new way that satisfies the requirements of God, nonetheless. Christ being the lamb of God offered up by us through our faith in him is probably the best example of this truth.

"22 I did not see a temple in the
city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its
temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the
moon
to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb
is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth
will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for
there will be no night there." (Revelation 21: NIV)

Let me explain this...

It is the Holy City that descends from above that does not need the Sun or the Moon.

This is being spoken in future tense, therefore if a Sun and Moon are mentioned it's because there is a Sun and Moon.

Faith in Christ, expressed in love, fulfills all of the law. Faith is
the new way to keep the requirements of God.

This is simply another way to say keep the Commandments - what point was proven in this statement?

What part of those Commandments did you not see?

I'm not sure if any of you know what you are trying to prove. And I don't mean to say that to be funny or insulting. I am being very serious and sober minded and prayerful right now.

And that is the other two, huh?

John is speaking of the time of the new heaven and the new earth:

"21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God..." (Revelation 21:1-2 NIV)

There is no demarcation of day and night in the New Jerusalem. There isn't even a temple. How do you follow the literal procedures and timetables of the Mosaic Law where there is no change from day to night, nor a temple?

This is why I believe Isaiah's prophecy is figurative, not literal. John's prophecy shows us it is not a literal prophecy.

The point is, Paul says when we 'love (our) neighbor as (our)self' we fulfill ALL the law. Law keeping doctrine says we have to keep the literal worship law in order to satisfactorily fulfill all the law.

When I have faith in Christ and walk according to the fruit of the Spirit I satisfy God's requirements for the Sabbath, just as I satisfied God's requirements for blood sacrifice (Day of Atonement, etc.) when I have faith in Christ. The law keeping argument says the Sabbath is fulfilled when you literally keep it according to the written word of Moses and that's the only legitimate way to keep all the law. But we see plainly that is hardly true in regard to the law concerning sacrifice for sin and that faith in Christ (that finds it's expression in love for others) is what fulfills the law of Moses in that regard. But for some reason it's not possible in law keeping doctrine to apply that same understanding of fulfillment to any other worship command of Moses.

Are you seeing what Paul is saying? When we have faith in Christ, the faith that loves others, we satisfy "any other commandment" besides the ones he lists. The law of Sabbath is among those "other commandment(s)".

Isaiah 58 is where we can see that how we treat others is what fasting and Sabbath keeping is really all about. When you 'love your neighbor as yourself' you are satisfying God's requirements for rest in Christ that the Mosaic command pointed to. Just as when we have faith in Christ we satisfy God's requirements for sacrifice that the Mosaic commands only pointed to.
