Salvation by grace through faith; not through works / law-keeping.

This is John's address to those walking in darkness-sin.
It doesn't apply to those who walk in the light-God.

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

  • if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin

John is addressing those who walk in the light in this verse, not those who walk in darkness.

John says two distinct things to those who walk in the light:

  1. Those who walk in the light have fellowship with one another.
  2. AND those who walk in the light are cleansed of all sin by His blood.

You error is adding a meaning to light and darkness that the context does not apply.

The context teaches us walking in and therefore abiding in the light is walking in love; not sinless perfection!

He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1 John 2:9-11

Walking in darkness is walk in hate.

This goes without saying.
I believe we all agree that without God nothing is possible for us.
It's God's grace that saves us and the Holy Spirit that dwells in us to strengthen us
to be as God would want us to be.
Yes but we must cooperate with the grace God gives us and always ask for more graces everyday

We are entitled to nothing owed nothing everything is a gift of God so our constant thought should be about thanksgiving
Thanks

Isn't that Calvinism ?
I know truth but don’t know Calvinism

The initial or remote means of justification is a free gift of God’s grace

Dogma

This initial grace is a Free gift of grace and cannot be merited

109. There is a supernatural intervention of God in the faculties of the soul, which precedes the free act of the will.
110. There is a supernatural influence of God in the faculties of the soul which coincides in time with man’s free act of will.
111. For every salutary act internal supernatural grace of God (gratia elevans) is absolutely necessary.
112. Internal supernatural grace is absolutely necessary for the beginning of faith and of salvation.
113. Without the special help of God the justified cannot persevere to the end in justification.
114. The justified person is not able for his whole life long to avoid all sins, even venial sins,
without the special privilege of the grace of God.

So ask and you shall receive!
Thanks

There are no verses teaching two 'justifications' by God.
James 2:24
...a man is justified by his deeds and not by faith alone.

Romans 3:28
...a man is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

The only way to reconcile these two justifications - justification by deeds, and justification by faith - is to understand that there are two meanings to the word 'justified'.

Paul is talking about one definition, and James is talking about another. We know which meaning each is talking about from the context.

Paul is talking about being made righteous by faith, while James is talking about showing yourself to have the righteousness of faith by your deeds.

It is by faith that you are made righteous. And it is by your deeds that you are shown to be righteous. Deeds are not how you become righteous. Having faith is how you become righteous. James is simply saying the faith by which Paul says you are made righteous must be seen in what you do, or you do not have the faith that can save you. He is not saying you become a saved person by having faith and doing deeds.

It could also be the initial or remote cos of justification is the free gift of grace then our participation or cooperation with grace thru faith and sacraments
Thanks

That's your works justification gospel deceitfully dressed up by the Catholic church to look like the faith justification gospel taught in the Bible.

In the faith justification gospel, the perfect righteousness you need to be declared 100% righteous in God's sight is received as a free gift of God's grace in the forgiveness of your unrighteousness and God's perfect righteousness put in it's place. Through faith in God's forgiveness you are made 100% righteous and kept there by your continuing faith in God's forgiveness, not by your works.

But you? You are working to become declared 100% righteous in God's sight. We are resting in the free gift of God's perfect righteousness - the only righteousness that will see a person safely through the coming judgment. Your righteousness, deceitfully disguised as the righteousness of God, won't save you from the wrath of God on the day of judgment. You serve a works justification gospel. Your efforts at being righteous won't save you on that day.

What do we have to do to receive this free gift?

John is addressing those who walk in the light in this verse, not those who walk in darkness.
Correct !
Verses 5 and 9 are likewise addressing those who are, or who will be, walking in the light.
Verses 6, 8, and 10, address those walking in darkness-sin.
John says two distinct things to those who walk in the light:
  1. Those who walk in the light have fellowship with one another.
  2. AND those who walk in the light are cleansed of all sin by His blood.
Correct !
The cleansing allows us to walk in the light, our fellowship with God, and our ability to say we have no sin.
You error is adding a meaning to light and darkness that the context does not apply.
The error is saying there is sin in God-light.
The confession of verse 9, and cleansing of verse 7, happen first.
The context teaches us walking in and therefore abiding in the light is walking in love; not sinless perfection!
Is there sin in love?
Is there love in sin?
Walking in love is sinlessness.
Correct !
Those who walk in hate cannot say they have no sin.
Those who walk in darkness cannot say they have no sin.

But those who walk in love can say they have no sin.
Which do you walk in?

I know truth but don’t know Calvinism
Would that be th truth Jesus said could make you free from committing sin?
" And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin."

Yep, God provided salvation to all men.
From there, it is up to us to either accept or refuse it.

I don't know where you dug up that garbage, but I advise you to ignore it from henceforth.

It sure sounded like it was Calvinism.
"Our salvation is entirely in God's hands and there is nothing we can do about it."

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"
The gift of God is His grace, not the faith.
I went back to post no. 639 and reread it.
What donadams stated is true and is believed by every Christian.
Here's what he said again:

You cannot even have faith without God’s help and grace!

There can be no salutary act without grace!
Thanks

Actually, all of Ephesians 2:8 is a gift from God.
His grace, our faith, our salvation.

Check it out.

Only the initial or remote cause of justification is the free gift of God we must choose (volition) Jn 3:16 to believe and submit to baptism Mk 16:16 Matt 28:19 acts 2:38:39 & 8:36-37 & 22:16 Titus 3:5 1 pet 3:21

A person is justified, one time for all time, not needing to be justified again, the moment they believe in their heart the gospel message - Romans 10:10, Hebrews 10:14.

If anybody does not believe this they are by definition an unbeliever who has no inheritance in the kingdom of God.

Where does this faith come from?

If I must choose (volition) to believe in order to participate and cooperate with the grace then it’s involves works .

How can I have faith on my own?
Jn 15:5 apart from me you can do nothing.

Without God’s help we cannot even form one good thought.

Thanks
