Should Women Preach ?

I don't appreciate Joyce Meyer when she preaches with men in her audience. I think she is missing out on a greater ministry if she held her conferences to women only.

What I do like about Joyce, is her books. I have read several of them, especially the battle of the mind. She is an anointed writer. If she "preached" only to women, she would not be violating clear teaching on women usurping authority of men.

If I could sum up Joyce's "teaching" ministry it would be a ministry that teaches forgiveness.

Seems that someone needs to have a good talk with these men that go to her conferences!

When they were turned away for a few years, they should have respected her wishes and not pushed the issue. What in the world were they thinking? :wink

No man is forced to attend her sermons or conferences. So those men that do attend do so because they hope to learn about God through Mrs Meyer. So they give her some authority to teach them. Thus Mrs Meyer isn't usurping authority, right?

Deb, you are absolutely right! I have nothing to add. You said it perfectly IMO. :hug

I don't agree with your statement that men give her authority. What they do is add to her rebellion! Shame on those weak Kneed so called men who don't abide by Scripture. They are as guilty as Mrs. Meyer is, of rebellion. The Scripture is God's Word on the subject and men attending her conferences don't change it one bit. If a man wants to learn from Joyce, they should buy the book on the subject.

I agree with you Claudya that no man is forced to go. There are way to many men who do not know the Scriptures as well as their wives do. I absolutely like what Joyce teaches, she is one of, if not the best woman teacher there is today. God bless her, just go back to refusing men to attend.

Look' like I said Joyce teaches how to live everyday life' she has been through a lot' being molested by her father. Drinking and smoking' depression' confusion a failed first marriage, the list goes on. She says so many things that I can identify with. God does not make everybody the same' some preachers He chooses because they have a certain style about them that will appeal to certain people. The thing I get from a lot of people on this board about Joyce is' she is of the devil or something. God through Joyce has done some great things in peoples lives. So some of you can down grade her all you want' it still doesn't change a thing. And that is' that God uses her to help turn people around and minister to the people who need to hear Jesus centered teaching in their lives' on how to deal with their lives. She is not for everyone and no preacher or teacher is, except for Jesus. But God chose her to teach and minister to the people. Now if some don't like her so what' there is a teacher and preacher out there that is more to your liking. I have learned so much from her, but for those who don't like her' there's the door' and there is the remote.

See the conflict?

I don't see how she is forcing authority over anyone, men or women. :shrug

If a male pastor was trying to 'usurp' the authority that my husband has over me, I'd tell him to go jump off a bridge. His authority as a pastor is not the same thing as my husband has.

What if your Pastor was disputing/correcting a dodgy doctrinal position your husband insists upon ?

2 Corinthians 2:17;
"Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God".
Joyce Meyer peddles the word of God for profit.
And she calls it prosperity.

I usually don't like pastors that do it for profit. They need to do it for the Lord. However I confess that my sister gave me a book from JM!

You know she is not my cup of tea, like someone else said, but I have listened to her enough to know that she has a very special ministry of 'teaching' that I haven't heard from anyone else. AND my husband really likes her. Last night because of this thread I asked him why. He said he really wasn't sure except for her attitude about overcoming the trials of life with the strength the Lord gives.
I bought Battle of the Mind for another woman I know.

Personally I don't see what the difference is between listening to her at a conference, TV, and reading a book of what she teaches.
I read Paul's teachings in a book but if he were in town I'd sure go to hear him speak.

I have her book Power Thoughts. It is not right to say that she is out just to make a profit. Not everybody who preaches on TV is a crook.

Then that is between the pastor and my husband. The Lord gave me a brain and the Holy Spirit so I can pray and read the word for myself. I may not agree with my husband and do agree with my pastor but it is not my place to speak out against my husband. That is his problem not mine.

Maybe you could give an example of what you are talking about.

It's not a matter of liking or disliking her. She is, as others say, in rebellion. If someone is in rebellion, so is everyone that follows them.

Yeah I agree with what you say. I don't have an example because I don't know if your Husband has any dodgy doctrine :D ok you mean hypothetically ?
