The Law Is Simple

Thanks. I do have a few questions I could use your help with.

1. If we are saved by being sinless, what is the purpose of Christ? Specifically his sacrifice on the cross. How does this play into our being perfect?

We have all sinned. Satan could make us suffer eternally (because he is not a nice guy) for the sins we have already committed. When Jesus died on the cross, he paid for those sins. We are forgiven.

two questions then,

So Jesus paid for our sins past, but not future?

What about our sin nature? Do we over come that ourselves? and if so to what degree? for example 100% sin free? is 98.9% acceptable?

Simple, and hopeless

"Yes, we must become sinless."

And that's only possible through the Blood of Jesus who IS our "Sin offering". YOU will never be "Experimentally sinless", and neither will I.

We have all sinned, but we must stop:

But it's already too late, 'ol buddy. If you've sinned, then you have already "fallen short" of God's glory, and are hopelessly damned. Except for the propitiation provides by Jesus, of Course.

"You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matt 5 :48 RSV"

But you've already sinned by your own admission, so THAT train has left the station already. You're NOT "Perfect" in and of youself, and NEVER will be.

The "LAW", after all, is primarily there to SHOW YOU - that you're incapable of obeying it - and if the first 9 don't get you, #10 will.

SImple as that.

Jesus has paid for our sins for all time, but he will discipline us, severely, if necessary, to influence us to stop sinning.

I haven’t completely overcome my own “sin nature,†but I think we will eventually overcome it completely. It takes a good deal of effort. We must be willing to expend that effort.

I am surprised you do not see the contradiction of your post.

We aren’t allowed to disobey Jesus. He told us to repent, and he told us we must be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect.

Jesus forgives us for our sins, but he disciplines us when we do sin, and that discipline can be very severe if we refuse to learn from our past sins.

Elijah, The Scriptures point it out. No way could i improve on them.

When we sin, we experience the consequences of our sin. It teaches us to stop sinning. When we stop sinning, we have paradise (heaven):

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matt 4:17 RSV

Sure, and -

"We aren’t allowed to disobey Jesus. He told us to repent, and he told us we must be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect."

So How are YOU doing with your "Sinless" gig????

"Jesus forgives us for our sins, but he disciplines us when we do sin, and that discipline can be very severe if we refuse to learn from our past sins."

Yup - no problem there. And your point is?????

For the moment I’m doing okay on the sinless gig. When I sin my life gets very painful.

My point is that life can be very unpleasant when we sin, so we should try not to give in to temptation. When we resist temptation, life is very beautiful.

That's good. The first part that is, but I don't recall reading where Jesus disciplines us severely if necessary to influence us to stop sinning.

Jesus met many a sinner in his day, but I never read of him disciplining them for say. Can you expand on how he might go about that? Some examples of Jesus administering this discipline?

I haven’t completely overcome my own “sin nature,†but I think we will eventually overcome it completely. It takes a good deal of effort. We must be willing to expend that effort.

Well, your in good company I think, although I'm not really "good", but I too have not over come my sin nature. Certainly not completely. In fact I'd say i'm not fit to be in the presence of a wholly righteous God. There is no way I could be admitted into heaven. I don't deserve it at all.

This effort you describe, this good deal of effort to be sinless, do you think it can be done? I mean do you know anyone who has done this work?

I have experienced it myself.

Why wouldn't the Lord discipline us for sinning? It is for our own good.

We are to love the Lord with all our hearts, minds, and souls. The Lord wants us in his presence.

We are admitted into heaven when we repent of our sin.

When I succeed in resisting temptation, my life is a paradise. I believe it can be done permanently.

I'm sure your right. Isn't death the penalty for sin?

There is no death. The penalty for sin is that we have to experience the direct consequences of our sin, which are unpleasant. The unpleasantness fades away and we are free, though, providing we don't continue to sin.

Agree, but from what I gather from your post, we must at that point become sinless via a great effort on our part that involves following the law, and you mentioned that you have yet to become sinless 100%, but that this law is also simple. If it is such, how is it that you have not yet overcome your own sin nature?....would less than 100% sinless do us any good? I ask because I understand that if we are guilty of even a portion part of the law then we are guilty of all of the law.

So my understanding is that we are either 100% sinless, or 100% sinful. However, I'm wondering from your understanding if 98.9% sinless would be better than 50% sinless?
